A spirited four-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever/American Pitbull Terrier mix currently living in Charlotte, NC, whose essence is a loyal heart wrapped in a strong, cream-colored frame and powered by one very wiggly tail. At 85 pounds of affectionate muscle, Bucky is the kind of companion who’ll stick to you like Velcro—always ready to be your sidekick whether you're tossing a ball in the backyard or cruising around town (car rides are his thing)! He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and knows his commands like a pro—sit, shake, come, leave it—and is constantly on the lookout for his next belly rub or squeaky toy to chase. Bucky is a sweet, goofy, and incredibly smart boy who bonds deeply with his people. He thrives in a calm, structured home where he can be the center of attention. But he’s not for every household—Bucky has a high prey drive and must not be placed in a home with cats or small animals. He also had an altercation with another dog in his foster home and has shown reactivity, especially around pushy or aggressive dogs. Because of this, Bucky needs to be the only pet in the home or, possibly, placed with a calm, giant-breed dog under the guidance of an experienced pet guardian. Despite his challenges, Bucky responds incredibly well to confident leadership and consistent routines. He’s eager to please, especially when rewarded with praise or treats, and he adapts quickly when expectations are clear. He’s friendly with people, including children, and generally does well when meeting new faces! A snuggly three-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever/American Pitbull Terrier mix currently living in Durham, NC, whose heart is as big as his 73-pound frame and whose tortilla chip-shaped ears add extra charm to his already lovable look. Nicknamed the “velvet hippo,” Norman is a gentle, goofy soul who lives for cuddles, comfy dog beds, and quality time with his people. He’s a classic couch potato with a silly streak—often flopping onto his back mid-snuggle just to flash you his best “aren’t I adorable?” grin. Walks, training games, and belly rubs top his list of favorite things, and he absolutely shines when given love and structure. His routine is flexible, and he’s happy as long as he’s got someone to nap near and a little mental stimulation each day. Norman is crate trained, house-trained, and knows several commands including “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and “place,” and he’s currently mastering “leave it.” He responds well to positive reinforcement and consistency, and his adoption includes four professional training sessions to help support a smooth transition into his next chapter. Norman is selective with both dogs and new people, and he’s shown reactivity in certain situations. Inside the home, he’s never displayed people-reactivity, but outside, he needs careful introductions and continued guidance. While Norman has had a bite incident involving a neighbor, those familiar with him describe it as an accident in a specific circumstance—not a reflection of his true nature. With a caring, experienced guardian who understands his needs, Norman can thrive. For now, he does best living in a calm, structured environment with a secure, fenced yard and no small children. Continued obedience training and positive reinforcement will help him stay confident and successful on walks, he’s making great progress! Hi there! I’m Scraggles, the tennis ball fetch champion of the world, famous for my midair catches, backflips, and perfect landings. I have been patiently waiting at the shelter for over four years while dreaming of my forever home. I am a scruffy 6-year-old Labrador and Patterdale Terrier mix who weighs about 60 pounds, and I would love a home with a yard, even a small one, so we can play fetch together. I walk beautifully on a leash, enjoy rolling in the grass for belly rubs, and absolutely love treats. I am incredibly smart and eager to learn many new things. I have never been on an agility course, but any athletic activity is right up my alley. Even though I am athletic, I am a great balance of calm and playful. I am fully potty trained and keep my kennel very clean. I usually prefer being friends with female dogs and just need a little time to get to know them. He’s a classic couch potato with a silly streak—often flopping onto his back mid-snuggle just to flash you his best “aren’t I adorable?” grin. Walks, training games, and belly rubs top his list of favorite things, and he absolutely shines when given love and structure. His routine is flexible, and he’s happy as long as he’s got someone to nap near and a little mental stimulation each day. Norman is crate trained, house-trained, and knows several commands including “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and “place,” and he’s currently mastering “leave it.” He responds well to positive reinforcement and consistency, and his adoption includes four professional training sessions to help support a smooth transition into his next chapter. Norman is selective with both dogs and new people, and he’s shown reactivity in certain situations. Inside the home, he’s never displayed people-reactivity, but outside, he needs careful introductions and continued guidance. While Norman has had a bite incident involving a neighbor, those familiar with him describe it as an accident in a specific circumstance—not a reflection of his true nature. With a caring, experienced guardian who understands his needs, Norman can thrive. For now, he does best living in a calm, structured environment with a secure, fenced yard and no small children. Continued obedience training and positive reinforcement will help him stay confident and successful on walks, he’s making great progress! He’ll come with everything he needs to settle in: a crate with pad and cover, two dog beds, a dog cot, and his favorite toys. He’s compatible with older, respectful kids and some dogs with slow introductions, and he’s eager to share his big heart with a loving, committed family who’ll continue guiding him through life with kindness. We’re including a full month of behavioral guidance from our consultant to help Norman settle in. Hi there! I’m Scraggles, the tennis ball fetch champion of the world, famous for my midair catches, backflips, and perfect landings. I have been patiently waiting at the shelter for over four years while dreaming of my forever home. I am a scruffy 6-year-old Labrador and Patterdale Terrier mix who weighs about 60 pounds, and I would love a home with a yard, even a small one, so we can play fetch together. I walk beautifully on a leash, enjoy rolling in the grass for belly rubs, and absolutely love treats. I am incredibly smart and eager to learn many new things. I have never been on an agility course, but any athletic activity is right up my alley. Even though I am athletic, I am a great balance of calm and playful. I am fully potty trained and keep my kennel very clean. I usually prefer being friends with female dogs and just need a little time to get to know them. A soulful five-and-a-half-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix currently living in Atlanta, GA, whose gentle heart and tricolor coat are just waiting to be cherished in the right peaceful setting. Mo is a sweet snuggler, at 75 pounds, he still believes laps are made for him! While he’s calm and low-energy indoors, Mo bonds deeply once he feels safe, especially with women, and becomes a loyal shadow to his favorite person. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and knows basic commands like sit, stay, and come. His favorite activity? Snuggling close and soaking up affection! He's the kind of dog who makes quiet evenings on the couch feel like the coziest place on Earth. But Mo’s heart beats a little faster in today’s noisy world. Since moving to a busy city apartment, the hustle and bustle have become too much for him. City walks filled with strangers, dogs, and unpredictable sounds leave him anxious and reactive. His ideal home is a calm, structured environment in a quiet rural or suburban area, with a securely fenced yard where he can enjoy the outdoors without overwhelming stimuli. Mo needs to be the only pet in the home. He’s a curious guy with a strong prey drive and unfamiliar animals can stress him out. He’s selective about other dogs and would thrive in a home without cats or frequent visitors. A guardian experienced with anxiety or reactivity in dogs, who uses positive reinforcement and has patience in spades, will help Mo begin to rebuild his confidence. Consistency and gentle companionship are key, and he’d do especially well with someone who works from home or has a predictable routine. While Mo does need ongoing support, he gives back tenfold with his affection, loyalty, and the quiet joy of simply being close to someone who makes him feel safe. He's neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and just needs to avoid poultry due to allergies. He also has mild arthritis in his hind legs, but that doesn’t stop him from curling up beside his favorite human for a good cuddle.
