Story
Hoss is a big, young, gorgeous, outgoing, guy. Although he is only 12-18 months old, this boy has already had at least two owners. His most recent owner brought him here on March 14 because she was being evicted if she didn't relinquish him. She only had him a few months. Before that, it is obvious that a man was heavy-handed with him because he is afraid of men; as a young puppy, he was probably beaten by a man. HOWEVER, recently a very gentle-natured man came to the shelter and spent some time outside sitting on a bench, giving him treats, (with a female volunteer there also---holding the leash) and Hoss slowly began to show trust, taking treats from the man and allowing the man to pet him under his chin, and eventually laying under the bench near the man. The key is that men he meets must be VERY slow and gentle in their movements. Any type of even normal speed of giving treats or petting from a man makes Hoss bolt away. We believe that with SLOW, daily interactions with a kind, slow, patient man, Hoss will learn that not all men are going to beat him. You can tell he wants to trust...he's just so leery and afraid. Other than this issue...Hoss is a WONDERFUL and happy guy!!! He loves women and kids, but he may knock over little ones accidentally. He previously lived with dogs and cats. He's energetic, so he'd be perfect for a farm or fenced yard where we can play ball and romp! He sits on command, and loves going on walks. A training collar or no-pull leash will help because he can be strong. He has a thick beautiful coat and loves to be brushed! As far as cats go, if you want him to be tested, let the staff know. We are not sure of his breed, but think maybe Lab/Shepherd/Newfoundland/Bernese Mountain dog may be in his genes. ........... Please come meet this sweet soul soon! Story
Mollie Sue and Peggy Sue came here on March 2. Sadly, these sisters had little socialization or life experiences in their prior lives. These girls are 2-3 years old and are learning things for the very first time! It is wonderful watching them bloom! When they arrived here, they were scared to death...just huddling together trying to be invisible. It was heartbreaking to see them tremble with fear. With time and patience, they have come out of their shells, bit by bit. First, we just sat in their pen and gently talked to them. Then, they learned to be brave and take treats from our hands. Soon, they allowed us to pet them, giving us puppy kisses. Finally, they began wagging their tails! (Molly Sue was the first to wag her tail and give kisses!) Next, we got them used to having a collar/leash on...just to wear for a few minutes as an fashion accessory. LOL Then...the big day...walking outside on a leash for the first time! They were so happy to feel grass beneath their feet...sniffing around and enjoying the sunshine. Peggy Sue was especially happy---and barked for the first time, announcing the event to the world! Mollie Sue and Peggy Sue deserve a wonderful home with people who understand their journey and will give them patience, love and structure. They are both incredibly sweet! They have never even raised a lip to us. They will do well in a calm family with a quiet household...with older kids who can show them tender kindness. (The active lives of young children may scare them.) These girls are the perfect size, about 40-45 pounds each. They are very well behaved and don't seem to have destructive tendencies. They need to continue to learn how to walk on a leash, how to meet new people, house-training, etc. If you are kind-hearted, want to make a BIG difference in the lives of animals and get loads of love and kisses in return, then Mollie Sue and Peggy Sue are perfect for you! ......... Story
Bella is an 8yr old female lab/blue heeler mix. She is spayed and up to date on all shots. Great with other dogs, cats, and kids. She has an amazing personality and also has a favorite song :). Bella is so loved and the best dog. It breaks my heart to rehome her but my schedule is just so busy, I am unable to give her the time and attention she deserves. Looking for someone with the time to give her lots of love!
