Story
Lokey is just that... a low key kinda fella. One walk should make you trip and fall completely in love with this gentle guy. From the moment you step in his kennel he is excited to see you but very polite and offers good manners. He does not jump all over his kennel guest, but offers gentle kisses to say hello, nice to meet you. He walks easily and seems interested in finding out about his neighbors but does not intrude on their privacy. As you stroll up the street you can hear him say "hello neighbor, nice day" as he passes by his kennels mates. He's the guy everyone likes to talk to at the party because he makes you feel welcome. ++++++Behavior:Good manners, respectful, easy going.Knows sit, and when its time for bed.easily trainable.+++++Walks by other dogs and cats without reaction. Easy to walk up beside the kennels. +++++Personality:Very sweet and attentive.Likes to be with his person.+++++Vetcare:very easy to handle giving shots and intake meds too."Hygiene:Neat in his kennel, Easy to move around and put in play yards. When the date is over and you return Lokey to his kennel, he sits politely and waits for you to unhook him. He offers a sweet goodbye kiss and says thank you for walking me. Then he goes to sit on his bed and munch on his treat. He would make a wonderful companion in your home, we don't anticipate he will be with us long so hurry to meet him and get to know your new best friend. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 62.6 Age: 2yrs 11mths 1wks

Story
Dog Name: Truffles Breed: Lab mix Sex: female Age: Approx 3yo Weight: 50 lbs approx.   Medical Needs: Truffles is literally allergic to everything. When she arrived from Georgia, she had mange. She has recovered, however, she continues to have skin allergies. She takes 1 fish oil supplement pill twice daily along with 2 Solliquin twice daily, and a half of Apoquel (16mg) twice daily.  Also, Truffles is on a salmon grain free food due to her allergies.  For Flea and Tick prevention, she takes Credelio monthly. Additionally, when she is experiencing a skin flare up, she takes medicated baths twice weekly.   Housebroken: Yes    Crate trained: Yes, her crate is her happy place. She loves to chew on her toys and bones. Truffles will only willingly leave her crate to go outside with her bestie. If her bestie doesn’t go outside, Truffles will bark and return to her crate. You cannot stand near her crate or the door, otherwise, she won’t go out or come in. Truffles will allow us to climb in her crate for scratches and love but will not willingly leave her crate for attention. Occasionally, she will venture out for treats, but not consistently. She will allow us to carry her to the couch, and will lay quietly in your lap while getting lots of love.    Good in the car: A work in progress, if her bestie is with her, she is happy, if she’s alone, she will shake.   Good on a leash: A work in progress. Again, if her bestie is with her, and she is on a chain leash, she will take a few steps. Otherwise, she is growling and chewing on the leash, with all four breaks on.     Energy level: medium   Need a fenced in yard: Yes, Truffles is no fan of leashed walks. She loves to race and play with her resident bestie and other resident dogs.   Dog Friendly: Yes. She lived her whole life with other dogs, and takes great solace with having friends. Truffles can be a bit rough playing, but loves all our dogs.     If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive?   Absolutely, over the past year, Truffles has made a lot of progress, but needs the confidence of a friend, to know that you can be trusted. This is a requirement for her adoption.   Cat Friendly? She is fine with our dog savvy cats    Kid Friendly: Unknown   If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Kids old enough to give her space and understand that Truffles is a special girl who is not interested in attention.   Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?  Truffles was rescued from a horrific abusive hoarding ‘rescue’ situation in Georgia, where she lived in an outdoor pen with numerous other dogs, and was literally feral when she was pulled. Over the past year, Truffles has made great progress, but she will never be an affectionate carefree dog, and needs an adopter who understands her needs and patience. Truffles will require another dog in the home to ease her transition.   Fosters Location: Harrington, DE   Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app ##2213948##

Story
This friend has just arrived to us on transport from a high-intake shelter partner! When our friends are new to us, we are often unsure of their full background. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and update their bio with more information as we learn. They are pending interactions with animals until they have been cleared by our vet. Please note that we often are unsure of house, crate, car, and leash training status upon arrival. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
*looking for a low key household* Dog Name: Pau Pau Breed: Lab Mix Sex: Male Age: 9-10 Weight: 60 Medical needs: Pau Pau is a distemper survivor. The disease can cause some long-term effect like scarring of the lungs. Due to this, his breathing sounds a little rough but he doesn't require medication. Will be be running any marathons? No! But he is content with short walks. Pau also used to weigh 114 pounds and his previous foster worked hard to get him to a healthier weight, so it's important that his adopter doesn't overfeed him. The thing about Pau is that he has a bottomless stomach and a nose for culinary delights, so you will have to put your foot down and offer him healthy snacks. Housebroken: Yes Crate trained: Yes. However, Pau can be crate/barrier reactive with new people, especially men. Good in the car: Yes Good on a leash: Ok, some light pulling Energy level: Medium Need a fenced in yard: No Dog Friendly: Yes, currently fostered with 3 other dogs and gets along great with all of them If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly? Unknown (can be tested) Kid Friendly: yes, he was previously fostered with young kids and is currently fostered with two teenagers. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Due to potential reactivity (and since Ive never personally observed him around younger kids) I would recommend teens Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Pau knows sit, down and is currently working on the place command. He’s the perfect example that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks and eager to learn if it involves treats. Speaking of treats…. Pau Pau came to us from Texas where he was found as a stray weighing a whooping 114 pounds After a 1.5 year diet he is now down to 60ish pounds. That being said, he acts like a 4-legged vacuum cleaner and will try to snatch food if you're not careful. We’re looking for an experienced owner since Pau can be reactive when meeting new people. Meets are best done outside with some tasty treats. Once he warmed up to you, his tail never stops wagging. Literally NEVER.
