Story
Pepper came to us after being found in a Northern Mississippi Animal Shelter. She was pregnant and ready to give birth. A wonderful foster pulled her out of the shelter and Pepper had her puppies at a foster home. Pepper was a great momma and all her puppies were adopted. Pepper is a beautiful 2-year-old mixed breed girl (Pit Bull Terrier/Labrador Retriever) with a sweet soul and a whole lot of love to give. She is housebroken and has been living peacefully with four other dogs in her foster home, making her a great candidate for a multi-dog household. Pepper is curious by nature and has shown interest in cats, but she has never shown aggression toward them. Because of her curiosity and energy level, a cat-free home or a home experienced with managing dog-cat introductions would be best. This sweet girl is truly kind-hearted and gentle with no aggressive tendencies. She does, however, have a lot of strength and enthusiasm. She’s the kind of dog who will benefit greatly from continued leash training as she can currently take the lead on walks. Pepper has not had formal training yet. Unfortunately, her heartworm treatment required her activity to be restricted, which made consistent training difficult. Once she completes treatment and is cleared for regular activity, she will be ready to learn and thrive with structure, patience, and positive reinforcement. Pepper would do best in a home committed to helping her grow into the amazing companion she’s meant to be. With guidance, exercise, and love, she’ll make a loyal and devoted best friend. PLEASE READ THIS TO ADOPT: Completed applications take precedence over inquiries. If you are interested in adopting, the FIRST step is to complete an application. For Pet's Sake Rescue is a Mississippi based rescue. ***ALL ANIMALS ARE CURRENTLY IN MISSISSIPPI.*** We transport adopted animals every 2-3 weeks to Northeast states.  ***Breed input is required for each platform but is not guaranteed to be accurate. We do not breed or DNA test.*** Adoption fees include transport, vetting and a MS Health Certificate to travel. Each pet is spayed/neutered, receives age appropriate vaccines, dewormed, heartworm tested (6 months of age and older) microchipped and has current flea/tick/heartworm prevention.  You can visit our website at www.forpetssakerescue.org for our full adoption process and adoption application. Story
Just a little ray of sunshine!Sunshine is a one year old Labrador/Boxer mix who came into our care as a stray in October 2025. She did have a registered owner, but when no one came back for her, she became ours and she has been winning hearts ever since.Sunshine is very smart and eager to learn. She is currently a Project Dog, which means a dedicated shelter employee spends extra time with her every single day working on training, confidence, and giving her the kind of one on one attention that helps dogs shine. That staff member absolutely adores her, and Sunshine returns the favor by being a constant source of smiles and good moods. She’s the kind of dog who makes even an ordinary day better just by being part of it.She has lived in a home before, so we believe she is housebroken. Sunshine is an active girl who loves being outside, enjoys toys, and is always happy to meet new people. She’s dog friendly, but would like to meet any dogs in the home prior to adoption to make sure everyone is a good fit.Sunshine is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, and will be spayed upon adoption. If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate, bright young dog who is ready to soak up love and give it right back, Sunshine is ready to meet you. And trust us, once you do, your days are about to get a whole lot brighter.

Story
Meet Sunkist! This 1 year old Retriever/Lab mix is the perfect blend of playful spunk and laid back charm. Sunkist came into the care of HSSM on July 24, 2025, after being found as a stray in Gulfport. Though he had a microchip, no family ever came forward for him. Now, this handsome boy is patiently waiting for his second chance, the day someone looks into his big, bright eyes and says, “He’s the one.” Sunkist is the total package. He’s got good looks, great manners, and a heart full of love for his people. He already knows basic commands like “sit” and “paw” and is eager to learn more (especially if treats are involved!). Whether you’re up for an adventure or just looking for a cuddle buddy on the couch, Sunkist is ready to match your vibe. He’s neutered, fully vetted, up to date on vaccines, and 100% ready to go home. If you’ve been searching for a fun loving, loyal best friend, look no further! Sunkist is right here at HSSM, waiting to greet you with a wagging tail, a big smile, and a whole lot of love to give. Come meet Sunkist today, your sunshine in dog form!
