Story
Meet Cornbread! Cornbread is a lovable 2-year-old Golden Lab, Husky, and Shar-Pei mix weighing in at 55 pounds. He’s a total ball of energy and affection, with a voice that loves to be heard! Cornbread is crate-trained, though he’d much rather be with his favorite human. He’s a great car companion and walks nicely on a leash. While he gets along with both cats and dogs, he does enjoy a rough-and-tumble play session. His one quirk? He’s very vocal when it comes to guarding his food. Although Cornbread doesn’t live with kids, we think he’d do well in a family setting. He'll thrive with an owner who understands his Husky spirit and knows how to handle his talkative personality. Story
Brutus was my mother's dog she passed away and I have tried my best to keep him and care for him. But my rental situation is not allowing me to continue. It breaks my heart because he is a gentle loving dog and loves all other animals. He did have yeast problem with his skin but I have been getting him vet care. My mother fed him chicken and rice with vegetables thinking she was doing a good thing but it ended up hurting him. But he's very loving

Story
Meet Leia – A Gentle Soul Ready for a Soft Place to Land Leia (affectionately called Lay Lay or Lei Lei) is a 1.5-year-old Collie/Lab mix, weighing around 40 lbs. She spent the first part of her life as a stray with her sister Gumbo, then endured 7 long months in a shelter, where fear kept her pressed against the back of the kennel, hoping to disappear. Now in foster care, Leia is learning that the world can be kind. She’s a very sweet, gentle girl who’s just shy and unsure around new people. She may keep her distance at first or bark from across the room, but she’s never aggressive—just scared. With time and patience, her silly, playful side begins to shine, and it’s such a joy to witness. Leia’s ideal home will be calm and understanding, with someone who knows that building trust takes time. Once she feels safe, she loves being part of the action—especially if that action involves going for walks, which are truly the highlight of her day. She’s the first to the door and loves being out front, sniffing, exploring, and trying to chase critters along the way. She’s also: - Crate trained and goes in willingly - House trained, especially with a doggy door - Gentle taking treats, though she may prefer you place them on the floor - Not destructive, though she might sneak a sock or shoe on occasion - Great with other dogs, especially playful ones - Good with cats in a home setting - No resource guarding issues Leia doesn't need much—she's not into toys, but she loves flipping dirt in the yard, chasing the hose, and napping on a dog bed by the window. Her joy is quiet, simple, and genuine. Her perfect match? Anyone with a calm home and a gentle heart, who is willing to give her the time she needs to settle in, and who will take her on walks where she can truly come alive. Leia’s past may have been hard, but her future is wide open. She’s looking for someone who sees the beauty in the shy ones and is ready to show her what a loving forever home feels like. If interested in meeting Leia, please submit an application here: https://fjcasp.wufoo.com/forms/adoption-application/

Story
Bob is a 6 month old puppy with a gentle demeanor and a heart that leans toward love, even if it takes him a moment to show it. Found as a stray with his siblings, he’s still learning to trust, but once he does, he’s all about cuddles, treats, and being close to his people. Bob thrives in the company of other dogs and would likely do best in a home where he has a canine companion to help him feel secure and confident. He’s a handsome boy with a loyal streak that will only deepen as he grows, and like all puppies, he’ll need time, training, and patience to become his best self. For the right person, Bob will be a quiet, devoted companion who makes every effort worthwhile. Come ask for him by name! By adopting me today you will save the life of two pets -- you'll save me and that will make room for the Shelter to rescue and save another pet.

Story
Millie was picked up as a stray and had been at a local overcrowded shelter for three months. She is a 55 pound German shorthaired pointer mix which makes her have a unique appearance and lively personality. Millie is a larger dog with a sleek, muscular build typical of Pointers. She has a short, shiny coat that is mostly white with black patches. Her expressive brown eyes and floppy ears give her an endearing and approachable look. Millie is known for her playful and energetic nature. She loves to run and play. One of Millie’s most notable traits is her impressive fence-climbing ability. This talent first became apparent when she came to her foster home. Curious about the world beyond her yard, Millie will climb over the fence to explore the neighborhood. Her escapades led to many amusing incidents, such as surprising the neighbors by appearing in their yards. Millie will require a 6 foot fence to manage her adventurous spirit. Millie's daily routine includes morning runs, playtime at the dog park, and engaging activities like puzzle toys and obedience training. Despite her adventurous nature, Millie is well-behaved at home. She enjoys lounging in her favorite spot by the window, watching the world go by, and greeting visitors with enthusiastic tail wags. Millie is low heartworm positive and is on slow kill monthly prevention. Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter Pets (FJCASP) is a foster-based rescue for dogs and cats.
