Story
Mufasa is a 2 year old male Labrador Retriever mix. Mufasa has been here since January of 2024. Mufasa is a little shy at first, but he is a total sweetheart. Mufasa enjoys playing with other dogs, running around with his friends, and playing with squeaky toys. He is heartworm negative and already neutered, so he is ready to leap into his furever home today! Come adopt from the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM)! Each year HSSM houses approximately 7,000 homeless pets. Every day we are fighting a space capacity crisis as we try to care for the overwhelming amount of abandoned local pets. If you have a question about one of our adoptable animals, give us a call at (228) 863-3354, email adoptions@hssm.org or stop by from 10am-5pm Tuesday-Friday or 10am-4pm Saturday. Walk-ins stop 30 minutes before close. We are located at 2615 25th Ave in Gulfport. Come to our back parking lot through our adoptions entrance.

Story
Marjorie is a 7 year old Retriever/Labrador mix, and has been with us since April 2024. She is a very well mannered old lady who prefers to be an independant bean. She knows several commands, and poses perfectly for photos. She is treat motivated, and loves to explore the outdoors. She would do best in a home with no small children, and older dogs. If you have another dog at home we do offer meet and greets, where you can bring your dog in to meet her and see how they would do together before adoptions. She is heartworm negative, and will be spayed upon adoption. If you are looking for an older companion she may just be the one for you!

Story
Meet Onyx Attention black lab lovers! This boy is an all-star! Onyx is a one year old lovebug who will steal your heart instantly with his affectionate personality. This young lab would love to have a family of his own. He makes friends wherever he goes, with other pups and even young kids too! In fact a home with another dog would be perfect but definitely not required. And of course he'd love to have some kiddos to play with too. Don't have either? No worries at all. He'd love to be the center of your dog-loving world! Onyx is a smart boy and he's learning new things in his foster home every day. He would enjoy having an active family to keep him entertained. Estimated at just over a year old, this boy has had a rough start to life. The day he stepped paw in our rescue, his story changed for the better! Onyx is an intelligent boy who is kennel trained and already made quick work on becoming housebroken. Playing with toys and snuggling with his humans are two of his favorite activities! Need some extra love in your life? Adopt this handsome boy and never feel lonely again! For more information on how to make this awesome pup the newest member of your family please keep reading... ***** To apply for adoption, please go to www.animalaidms.org/adopt and complete our online application. We review all applications within 1-3 days. If you seem like a good fit for Onyx we will reply with a phone call. Note: If you send an inquiry through Adoptapet or a message on Facebook it might get lost in the shuffle as we are a small volunteer team. But we do review every application. Be sure to complete the entire application as incomplete applications will not reach us. The dog you are considering is located in South Mississippi. We conduct virtual meet and greets for out-of-town applicants and can provide for transport (fee added to cost of adoption) to many northeastern states. At this time we are not able to transport into Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine or Rhode Island. To follow our rescue and all of the animals we help, like our Facebook page - Animal AID Mississippi, follow @animalaidms on Instagram or visit www.facebook.com/animalaidofms.

Story
Gordy is a fun loving, energetic lab mix, who loves affection. Gordys past living situation was outside, with many other dogs, and no vet care. Since Gordy has been rescued, he has been treated for mange, tick disease, and heartworms. He has made tremendous progress in his foster home, but is still very fearful of strangers. Gordy has a lot of personality, is a great communicator (you’ll always know exactly how he’s feeling), and plays well with other dogs, would also thrive as an only dog. Gordy gets very excited, so a home with small children or small animals will not work well for him. Gordy is about 60 pounds but thinks he is small and petite. He is neutered, walks well on a leash, knows some basic commands, and is completely house trained (those are great accomplishments in such a short time). Gordy lives for playtime and snuggling with his person, he does not like to be in a kennel. He will attach himself to the person he trusts, but this will take some time an effort to gain, but he is worth it! If you are looking for a lazy dog, he will not be the one for you. If you are looking for a best friend who adores you and is always ready to hang out, Gordy may be your perfect fit! Story
Looking for your next cuddle buddy? Well look no further than Reese! She has come so far from where she started and it’s her turn to thrive and be the best dog she can be! Reese is a 50 pound 1.5 year old lab mix that is a little timid at first due to her being in the shelter most of her short life which has led her to be unsure of her surroundings. Once she learns she can trust you, she opens up and her fun loving, happy little personality shines through! She opens her eyes each morning so excited and grateful to see your face again! She begins her day with nudges to wake you up and lots of kisses to show just how much she missed you through the night! Reese is potty trained, kennel trained, and knows all of the basic commands…sit, stay, lay, shake, etc… She’s a quick learner and is very easily motivated by treats! Reese loves to go on daily walks and will sit patiently and wait for you to put her leash on and give her the command to walk out of the front door! She loves playing with other dogs, big and small, and is curious about cats but keeps her distance. Reese loves to end her days snuggled in the bed with her favorite people while literally laying on top of you! She can’t seem to get close enough to show you just how much she loves you! Due to Reese’s scary start in the shelter, she would do best in a very patient, calm home preferably without children but would benefit from having another dog in the family!
