Story
Meet Debbie, this shy and quiet 1 year old Retriever mix has been with us since May 2023 and is patiently waiting for her forever home. She is looking for a calm and quiet family with older or no kids, who can offer her the time to adjust to household life, and the opportunity to flourish and grow. She is dog friendly, but prefers a more independent play buddy who will be there to relax and nap with. If you have another furry friend at home, we do offer meet and greets. That allows you to bring your other dog to meet her, to see how they will do together before adoption. She has so much potential, and would make a perfect companion dog if given the opportunity to grow. Debbie is up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, Heartworm negative, and spayed. Do you think you could be Debbie's' forever home? Come on in and meet her today!

Story
I am the Greek God of Water-I am in need of a swimming partner. Will you be my swimming buddy? I am greatly interested in a dip in the pool or pond, hey who knows, maybe even a river. It's too cold right now to see how I would do on a boat, but if you adopt me you can train me to enjoy a boat in advance. I am a cuddly retriever labrador mix at the spry young age of 1 year old. I am heartworm negative, up-to-date on all of my vaccinations, and I am already neutered. If swimming might be your cup of tea, come on down to the Humane Society and meet me. I am looking forward to meeting you soon. Thanks a bunch, Poseidon. The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is a progressive animal welfare organization located in Gulfport, MS. Each year HSSM houses approximately 7,000 homeless pets. Every day we are fighting a space capacity crisis as we try to care for the overwhelming amount of abandoned local pets. Please consider visiting our shelter to adopt your next best friend. If you have a question about one of our adoptable animals, please give us a call at (228) 863-3354, email adoptions@hssm.org or stop by from 10am-5pm Tuesday-Friday or 10am-4pm Saturday. Story
Meet our wild flower, Sunnie! This 11 month old Retriever/Labrador mix has endless puppy energy to give. She is actively looking for her forever home, that can give her lots of outside play time, walks, and adventures. She would do best in a home with older kids as she can be rambunctious. She would absolutely love a home with another dog, as she is very dog friendly. If you have another furry friend at home, we do offer meet and greets. This allows you to bring your dog here to meet her, and see how they would do before adopting. She is very treat motivated and would be easily trainable with persistence and patience. She is a bundle of joy that will flourish and grow in her new home. Sunnie is up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and Heartworm negative. Do you think Sunnie could be your new best friend? Spring into love, and come see her today!

Story
Rhett is a friendly puppy with lots of love to give. He is happy go lucky, loves to play and is curious. Rhett is great with dogs and children. He's had a little interaction with cats. He would do well with cats if he's socialized with them more.   For Pet's Sake Rescue is a Mississippi based rescue. All animals are currently in MS. Mississippi is overpopulated with too many animals, not enough adopters, and many high kill shelters. For Pet's Sake Rescue saves each animal from a different background.  ***Breed input is required for each platform but is not guaranteed to be accurate. We do not DNA test. We rescue animals from different situations. We discuss breed assignments with our vets to label them as accurately as possible.*** For Pet's Sake Rescue transports animals to other states for better adoption potential. Our goal is to keep animals alive and out of kennels into their forever homes as quickly as possible. Each animal is quarantined and vetted during their time in our care. Each adopted pet is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and has current flea treatment unless otherwise noted.  You can visit our website at www.forpetssakerescue.org for our full adoption process and adoption application. Once we review your application and check your vet reference, we will contact you to proceed. If both parties agree to the adoption, we will send you an Adoption Contract with an invoice. Once the invoice is paid, your pet is "on hold" for you to pick up or we can transport the pet to a designated location closer to you via transport. Transports are arranged for specific dates. We will discuss these dates and locations with you during the initial phone call.  We are currently unable to adopt pets to MA and RI residents. Any of our adoptable animals can be transported unless otherwise noted in their profile. View all of our adopted animals at www.forpetssakerescue.com ##1873663##

Story
Meet Onyx Attention black lab lovers! This boy is an all-star! Onyx is a one year old lovebug who will steal your heart instantly with his affectionate personality. This young lab would love to have a family of his own. He makes friends wherever he goes, with other pups and even young kids too! In fact a home with another dog would be perfect but definitely not required. And of course he'd love to have some kiddos to play with too. Don't have either? No worries at all. He'd love to be the center of your dog-loving world! Onyx is a smart boy and he's learning new things in his foster home every day. He would enjoy having an active family to keep him entertained. Estimated at just over a year old, this boy has had a rough start to life. The day he stepped paw in our rescue, his story changed for the better! Onyx is an intelligent boy who is kennel trained and already made quick work on becoming housebroken. Playing with toys and snuggling with his humans are two of his favorite activities! Need some extra love in your life? Adopt this handsome boy and never feel lonely again! For more information on how to make this awesome pup the newest member of your family please keep reading... ***** To apply for adoption, please go to www.animalaidms.org/adopt and complete our online application. We review all applications within 1-3 days. If you seem like a good fit for Onyx we will reply with a phone call. Note: If you send an inquiry through Adoptapet or a message on Facebook it might get lost in the shuffle as we are a small volunteer team. But we do review every application. Be sure to complete the entire application as incomplete applications will not reach us. The dog you are considering is located in South Mississippi. We conduct virtual meet and greets for out-of-town applicants and can provide for transport (fee added to cost of adoption) to many northeastern states. At this time we are not able to transport into Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine or Rhode Island. Story
Gordy is a fun loving, energetic lab mix, who loves affection. Gordys past living situation was outside, with many other dogs, and no vet care. Since Gordy has been rescued, he has been treated for mange, tick disease, and heartworms. He has made tremendous progress in his foster home, but is still very fearful of strangers. Gordy has a lot of personality, is a great communicator (you’ll always know exactly how he’s feeling), and plays well with other dogs, would also thrive as an only dog. Gordy gets very excited, so a home with small children or small animals will not work well for him. Gordy is about 60 pounds but thinks he is small and petite. He is neutered, walks well on a leash, knows some basic commands, and is completely house trained (those are great accomplishments in such a short time). Gordy lives for playtime and snuggling with his person, he does not like to be in a kennel. He will attach himself to the person he trusts, but this will take some time an effort to gain, but he is worth it! If you are looking for a lazy dog, he will not be the one for you. If you are looking for a best friend who adores you and is always ready to hang out, Gordy may be your perfect fit! Story
Smores is a 3 year old spayed female chocolate lab mix. She is approximately 65 pounds of sweetness and love. She loves to give hugs and kisses and will just melt into your arms. She is good with kids and other dogs but has not been around cats so she will have to be trained to like them. Smores walks well on a leash and rides well in a car both in a crate and free riding. She has completed her heartworm treatment and is now heartworm negative.
