Story
Hi there, I'm Amy, and I want to share my tale of wagging tails and happy trails with you. Just over a year ago, I was just another nameless pup in a litter of seven, each of us dreaming of a place to call home. Now, I'm the girl everyone calls "a doll," and let me tell you, I wear that title like a badge of honor. You see, my journey began in a crowded shelter, where I stood out with my shiny black coat, a splash of white on my chest, and the kind of hopeful eyes that tell you I'm ready for love. But I was one of the lucky ones - I didn't stay there long. A kind foster took me in, and for 2.5 glorious months, I've been living the good life. In my foster home, I've learned so much. I'm 95% house trained (I'm a quick learner, I promise!), and I'm great at making friends of all shapes and sizes - other dogs, cats, kids, and even horses! I love my crate; it's my cozy retreat after a long day of play and cuddles. But here's the thing, I've been waiting for someone to look at me and say, "That's my girl! I'm all up-to-date with my shots, spayed, heartworm negative, and at a healthy 42lbs, I'm just the right size for a lab/terrier mix to fit perfectly into your life. I've been called an easy-come-easy-go girl, and I wear that title proudly. I'm ready to bring joy to a forever family who needs a dose of my canine cheer. So, if you're looking for a furry family member who's got a lot of love to give and is ready for any adventure, I'm your girl! With a tail that's always wagging and a heart that's full of love, I'm Amy, and I can't wait to start our story together. Will you be the hero of my next chapter? Amy's adoption fee is $275. Story
Meet Jake! Jake is a Lab/Shepherd mix and is approximately 2 and a half years old. Jake is a happy, friendly guy. He has a comical personality and is full of energy. Jake needs an active owner that will make sure he gets the exercise he craves. Jake previously spent way too much time in a crate. We want to find an owner who has plenty of free time to dedicate to this boy. Jake is learning to play fetch and enjoying his time in the LHS yard. A fenced yard to run and play would be ideal for him. He would also enjoy a dog park or doggie daycare. Jake does well with other dogs. We are suggesting old older children due to his size and exuberance. No apartment dwellers please. If you are interested in giving this good boy the life he deserves, please fill out our online application or stop in during open hours Wednesday 6-8pm or Saturday 12-3pm. https://www.lakeshorehumanesociety.org/online-adoption-form

Story
Why does Luke look so sad? Luke's early puppy life was in a hoarding situation. Growing up, it was primarily just him and his owner. However, the dynamics shifted when another dog joined the household. Unfortunately, the two didn't get along, leading to the scars you now see on Luke. He's gradually acclimating to the shelter environment, and we're hopeful that soon we'll his happy, playful side. Luke is trained for both the house and crate, though he doesn’t require crating when left by himself.  Luke would thrive best in a loving home with adults where he is the sole pet. He's a shelter favorite, come and meet him! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application which is found on the website at caninerescue.org.  *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you.   If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in. *PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.

Story
Lucy arrived at NCCR 2/14/2023, rescued after she had been dumped at the vet’s as a 6-month-old puppy to be euthanized for being “too active and rough”. She is now an approximately 2-year-old spayed female Retriever mix. She is a sweet, affectionate, and lively dog who has learned a lot in her foster home. She is hoping for a family who will continuing her training and make sure she gets plenty of attention and playtime. Lucy gets along very well with other friendly, playful dogs, but is a little too much for cats. She is an agile fence-climber and very smart! Her foster family has this to say about her: Lucy has come a long way from her puppy habits. At this point she is housetrained, she doesn't chew on the furniture, but she does love chewing bones/sticks/antlers. She has gotten very good at understanding basic commands like sit, stay, stop, and down. Lucy has also become much better on her leash. She loves playing fetch and is very toy/play/treat motivated. Unfortunately, she still has a fixation on cats; she doesn't chase them anymore, but still has a high prey drive, so we would recommend a cat-free home. She is excited to meet new people and plays well with other dogs. Lucy is a big cuddler and sensory seeker who is eager to find her forever home! Applying for a puppy? Before completing an application, please take into consideration their breed characteristics, puppy shenanigans and the size at full grown. I am full of razor-sharp puppy teeth and love & NEED to chew! I am not house trained, or crate trained but working on it! I need exercise, playtime, mental enrichment time, not confined to tons of hours of crate time! I need quality time spent with me to learn proper manners, obedience training, house training, and lots of time to properly socialize me. I have had a rough start to life and need the best home possible for me to learn about love and loyalty. Canine Partners Program only places our dogs and puppies into homes that meet "their" needs!
