Story
LIQUORICE is in a foster home and so ready for his forever family! With that adorable face and those cute ears, combined with his charming personality, you will love him. He is such a sweet, sweet treat of a dog! He always earns high marks in all the pet categories, across the board. Great with all dogs, a good choice for kids, loves his people and is a great snuggler. Mild mannered with a touch of playfulness, he never meets a stranger. He is such a cute, smaller framed fellow. With his sleek black coat, white chest blaze and athletic frame, he is just stinkin' cute folks! At 42lbs, he is a sturdy guy who loves to run and play but also settles nicely. He quickly makes friends wherever he goes and easily mixes and mingles with dogs and people alike. Kids are immediately drawn to his size and charming personality. He loves being the recipient of their many hugs and kisses. He is simply a happy, super friendly guy, a real prize pet waiting for YOU to take him home furever! He is fostered with many doggie friends, is crate trained, housebroken, walks good on leash, rides fine in the car and greets everyone nicely at adoption events. He is 3 years young, 42lbs and heartworm negative. He’s wonderful! The easiest foster dog I’ve ever had. He loves other animals so much and is sad if he ever goes outside without a friend. He needs to be in a home with other animals. He’s shy with new people but will warm up and loves being pet. He’s very good with crating and will immediately crate when he comes back inside hoping for a treat or food. He’s cat friendly. He just ignores them and will run right by them. He loves toys and will collect them in his crate for later; it’s very cute. I would have to go pull a bunch of them out to put back in the toy box just for them to do it again. (4/2/24)

Story
Looking for a Furry Bestie? Meet Atticus, the Handsome Canine with a Quirky Personality!" Hey everyone, it's Atticus here, the charming and goofy 2 and a half year old American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a forever home. I may have arrived at the shelter as a stray, but I'm ready to leave my past behind and become a loyal companion for life. At 56 lbs, I may not be the biggest pup on the block, but I make up for it with my playful and relaxed nature. I love hanging out with my doggie friends, and I'm always up for a game of fetch or tug-of-war. Plus, my blonde marble fur and handsome looks make me a real head-turner at the dog park. So what am I looking for in my ideal home, you ask? Well, I'm a social butterfly and I need at least one other furry sibling to keep me company. I know how to share my toys and I promise I won't hog the bed (well, maybe just a little bit). My foster parents say I have a loving and curious personality, and I can't wait to shower my new family with affection and explore the world with them. I get along great with other dogs and I would do best in a home with a companion animal. So what do you say? Are you ready to make me your furry bestie and add some love and laughter to your life? Come meet me and see for yourself what an amazing addition I'll make to your family. Don't wait, I'm eagerly waiting to give you all the sloppy kisses you deserve. Let's make it official, adopt Atticus today!

Story
Who was the sweetest gal at our adoption event at Tractor Supply? RUBY! She always had a home and shared it with a chihuahua. She was surrendered when her family moved away. She has been waiting for much too long now to get her chance back into a family, and we have no idea why someone hasn't scooped her up yet. SHARE her, please! She is a delight! She is beautiful and oh so sweet. She absolutely adores her humans and is good with kids. She likes dogs too. If you don't have any, that's fine with her. All she really needs is you and a great toy or 2 and this girl will be in heaven. She loves toys and self entertains. No cats for Ruby. She's 4 years young, 56lbs and heartworm negative. Let's get her back into a loving furever HOME, please.Judy came prancing out of that dog run, happy as can be to get out for a walk. She had some play time to herself for a few minutes and was delighted to find a squeaky ball that everyone in the area knew about very quickly. She loved marching around to the rhythm of the squeak. Judy met male and female dogs very politely but was not really interested in running around with them. In her prior home she had a chihuahua sibling so this meet and greet was not new for her. She has a nice energy level and mostly enjoyed the people and attention from them, and she really loved the toys! I’m sure that is one of many things she has missed from being in a home. Judy is anxious to find her new family and into getting those regular snuggles and pets again. Please give this girl a good look! She's a 4 year old playful girl, who's always eager to play with some new toys. She reacts well to other dogs and is open to meeting new people after she's been introduced. She's curious about her surroundings and ready to explore.

Story
Hershey is a beautiful chocolate Lab mix. She needs a family who is experienced with dogs who need socialization. Hershey is submissive and sweet, and she loves other dogs. However, because she was left to grow up in someone's yard without much human contact, she is not sure how to be a pet or how to belong to a family of her own. In foster care she is learning leash-walking and crate training. She trusts her foster mom more every day. A home with a canine companion for Hershey is a must. She yearns for someone to trust who can teach her how to be a part of a family. She makes progress every day. If you are willing to take the challenge of helping Hershey realize that life can be wonderful, and if you are experienced with a fear-based dog like her, consider helping Hershey.

Story
ADOPTION FEE WAIVED! ALSO AVAILABLE TO FOSTER. No doubt you’ve seen those stories about dogs waiting 200, 300 or even 500 days before being adopted. Gilley (short for Gillian) has been at Save the Strays for more than 1,825 days – an incredibly long time to wait for that special someone to come and take her home. Why is she still here?   At 7 years young, Gilley still has a lot of stamina. She’s just crazy for toys and can destroy most of them within 5 minutes. But she has slowed down a bit over the past year and is quite happy to just hang out, get a belly rub and take a nap. She’s really quite sweet and very loyal.    Because Gilley has been here so long, she may need a little time to adjust to a new home and owner. She’s lived in a rural environment with few visitors, so she should be introduced to new sights, sounds and people in small doses. Gilley’s also initially a little uncertain around other dogs, especially if they’re also nervous or too forward. She might do best in a quieter home where she’s the only dog or in a home with only one other laid-back dog of similar size because she will play with other dogs once she’s comfortable with them.     At Save the Strays, we consider the first two weeks (longer, if needed) following adoption to be a trial period and will take Gilley back if the adoption doesn’t work out. We are also waiving Gilley’s adoption fee because we really, really, really want to see her get the home she deserves.    Not quite ready to give a dog a forever home? Gilley is also available to foster if you live within 75 miles of our location. If you have questions or want to apply to adopt or foster Gilley, email us at info@savethestrays.org.        Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 29, 2024, 7:52 am

Story
ADOPTION FEE WAIVED! ALSO AVAILABLE TO FOSTER. Peri has a lot going for her. At 3 years old, she has enough energy to be a great playmate or hiking companion but is well past the puppy stage and will hang out on the couch with you if you’re having a lazy day. She’s house trained, crate trained and getting better at leash walking. She's good with adults and children, men and women, although she may be a little shy or skittish until she gets to know you. Peri is also good with other dogs. She's spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Peri has been here a while, and we really want to get her a good home, so we are waiving her adoption fee. If you can give Peri the great forever home she deserves, email info@savethestrays.org for our application. She's also available to foster, if you're not ready to give a dog a forever home and live within 75 miles of our location.
