Story
BEETHOVEN — AS TOLD BY GUMBO “He’s large, he’s loud, and he’s one strong breeze away from filing a noise complaint on himself.” — Gumbo Behold, humans. This is Beethoven, the walking symphony of fur, enthusiasm, and questionable decision-making. This man is part something giant, part something majestic, and part “how is there this much hair on one creature?” Let’s discuss his… vibe: Movement Style: Majestic elk that forgot how legs work halfway through the journey. Size: Technically classified as a dog. Emotionally classified as a small horse. Personality: Friendly? Absolutely. Goofy? Without question. Capable of knocking you over with one joyful greeting? Also yes. Knows he’s handsome? Oh, painfully. Now, a word from Legal (that’s me): Beethoven shows too much interest in cats for us to pretend he’s “cat friendly.” He looks at cats the same way people look at fresh brownies — with curiosity and a sprinkle of bad intentions. So we’re calling him: Cat-free home only (Unless your cat is 200 pounds and came here to collect debts.) Who is Beethoven perfect for? Someone who wants: A big, loyal, affectionate shadow A dog who hugs with his whole body A hiking buddy who doubles as wilderness protection A furry best friend with movie-star looks and sitcom energy A canine warm blanket in the winter A personal bodyguard who also eats sticks Not ideal for: Cats Tiny children he might accidentally bulldoze People who enjoy clean clothing Beethoven is ready to be someone’s best friend, oversized pillow, and woodland adventure partner. Adopt Beethoven today. Upgrade your life to Premium Giant Fluff Edition™. Adoption Fee: 250 Apply here: https://forms.gle/emAhij7FiTcZuvHA6 Currently in AL, but can be transported to New England states for $200.00. Story
Make a Difference! Adopt a Shelter Dog! This handsome hunk is Max, a 100-pound gentle giant with a heart just as big as his paws. Max found himself in a Queens, NY shelter when he simply outgrew apartment life—but he’s thriving now in his foster home and ready for a forever family of his own. Max is doing wonderfully with his foster siblings (three mixed-breed dogs) and would love a home with another playful dog to keep him company. He really shines in dog-to-dog friendships and enjoys good, old-fashioned rowdy play—especially with his biggest foster sibling, a shepherd/husky mix. When it comes to people, Max is a bit of a shy guy at first. We don’t think he had much exposure to new people in his past, so he can be nervous when visitors arrive. He has no signs of aggression whatsoever, he’s just fearful and may try to hide behind his foster mom (which is both endearing and slightly comical given his size). Slow introductions, patience, and plenty of treats are the key to his heart. Once Max feels safe, his true personality comes out: gentle, happy, and incredibly sweet. He should never be forced to greet—he’ll let you know when he’s ready. Max is still very much a big puppy and will need plenty of toys, bones, and enrichment to keep him busy. He loves fetching tennis balls and can catch them mid-air like a pro, even from impressive distances. Squeaky toys and plush toys are also high on his favorites list. He enjoys going for walks, though he’ll benefit from some leash training to curb his enthusiasm (he’s strong and doesn’t quite know it yet). He definitely needs regular exercise to burn off puppy energy. At just one year old, Max still has some growing to do, and filling out! He’s currently a bit underweight and in that adorably awkward, gangly stage, but once mature he’ll be a very large, powerful dog. His former family did an excellent job house-training him; he hasn’t had a single accident in foster care. He knows “sit” and “paw,” takes treats gently, and has proven he can be trusted uncrated while his foster family is out. With his foster mom, Max is snuggly, affectionate, goofy, loyal, and incredibly loving. He actually thinks he is a lap dog. He has ultra-soft fur, beautiful soulful eyes, and once you earn his trust, you’ll have a friend for life. Max is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccinations. His ideal new home would have another dog (or dogs), no small children who could be accidentally knocked over, and a family experienced with large-breed dogs who understands that sometimes the biggest dogs have the softest hearts. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will grow into an amazing lifelong friend, Max might just be your perfect match 🐾 To adopt Max, please complete our online dog application at https://www.sheltersurvivors.com/application.html and return it to sheltersurvivors@live.com.
