Story
MEET WESTLEY! Westley may have started his story wandering the streets of Detroit, but this cheerful little guy is more than ready to leave his stray days behind! After being found and brought to safety, no one ever came to reclaim him. Now, at just 2 years old, Westley is getting a fresh start and searching for the family who will make sure he never has to wonder where he belongs again. Westley is a sweet, happy fella with a playful personality and plenty of youthful energy packed into his 16-pound frame! He enjoys attention, loves playing with toys, and is always happy to get out and explore. He would be a great match for an active family looking for a companion who can keep up with adventures but is still perfectly sized for plenty of snuggles afterward. He gets along well with other dogs and has shown no concerns around cats. Because Westley is an energetic young guy, we feel dog-savvy children who understand how to appropriately interact with dogs would be the best fit. One of Westley’s favorite things is having the freedom to zoom around his foster family’s fenced yard. He loves stretching those little legs, exploring, playing, and burning off some energy! A securely fenced yard would be ideal in his future home so he can continue enjoying that freedom. He also enjoys going for walks and would make a great walking buddy, but he is not a good candidate for tethering. Westley has demonstrated a good understanding of house manners and is continuing to work on crate training. He’ll be the first to tell you that being crated wasn’t exactly his idea of a good time initially! With consistency and an established routine, however, he is learning to accept it and continues to make progress. As a Lhasa Apso mix, Westley will also require regular professional grooming and routine brushing at home to keep his coat healthy, comfortable, and looking its best. Westley has already experienced what it’s like to be without a home. What he needs now is someone ready to give him everything that comes with being a beloved family dog—playtime, walks, adventures, structure, care, and plenty of love. If you’re searching for a happy, playful little sidekick with a zest for life, Westley might just be your guy! Westley is looking for a family who will love him furever! We process applications ONLY - there is no guarantee that you will get a response to an inquiry. Many of the animals in our foster program come to us with limited or unknown histories. We make every effort to evaluate each animal’s temperament and behavior, including testing their interactions with other dogs, cats, and children (defined as individuals under the age of 18, when available). However, every animal is unique—just as every child and household environment is different. While we strive to set both our foster animals and adoptive families up for success through thorough assessments and transparent communication, **we cannot guarantee any specific behavioral outcome**. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program. FUREVER TAILS IS A NON-PROFIT, NO-KILL, FOSTER HOME BASED ANIMAL RESCUE BASED OUT OF OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MI. OUR FOSTER ANIMALS ARE LIVING IN FOSTER HOMES AND TREATED LIKE FAMILY UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR OWN FUREVER FAMILIES. OUR ADOPTION PROECESS REQUIRES AN APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETED AND APPROVED BEFORE A MEET-N-GREET WITH THE ANIMAL CAN TAKE PLACE. ADOPTION FEES ARE NECESSARY TO HELP US COVER VETTING COSTS FOR OUR RESCUED ANIMALS. ##2813126##

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.
