This friend has just arrived because their owner could no longer keep them. While owners can provide some history on their pets, our medical and behavioral teams will still evaluate them. Dogs that have lived in homes previously typically have some training established, but we cannot guarantee that those behaviors will remain consistent in a new home environment. They are pending interactions with other animals at the shelter until they have been cleared by our vet. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and we will update their bio with more information as we learn. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Meet Benji: Benji is about a 3 year old (as of June 2026) Maltese / Yorkie mix (best guess) that weighs about 14 pounds. Benji was surrendered by his owners to our rescue. his former owner’s kept him outside with a small wire crate to sleep in out there. They would not let him in the house and he had no vet history. Sweet Beni was so overgrown, matted and uncared for, it was horrible. Benji is now safe, being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Benji is the sweetest little dog you will ever meet! Benji loves other dogs and everyone he meets. Benji’s neglect has not changed his loving spirit and he is happy to snuggle up and give lots of kisses. Benji also loves to hang out in his new doggy bed! Benji and both crate trained and house trained and walks great with his harness. We would love for Benji to have a home with a fenced in yard so he can run and play freely, but it is not a requirement. Benji is up to date on his shots now and was recently neutered. Benji did test heartworm positive during his vet screening and has already begun treatments to be good as new! Lady’s a 7yo 10lb Maltese mix. She’s dog selective, cat and kid 13+ friendly. She’s housebroken if kept on a schedule but will wear a diaper and use pee pads and crate trained. She’s good in a secure fenced in yard and/or going for harness leashed walks. She’s agile, smart, likes squeaky toys, people and going for walks but will bark at people, dogs and noises. She is easy startled so best to sleep in a dog bed on the floor so not to accidentally wake her while sleeping. Lady’s foster requires a calm home, where someone is home often, so not to be left for long periods of time, be an only dog, brushed/groomed often to prevent matting along with leadership, consistency, structure and to continue working on training. If your home DOES NOT meet these requirement’s please DO NOT put an application in. We will not call anyone whose home does not meet the needed requirements. Also, we will be concentrating on local to foster applications 1st since home checks and meets with all humans and animals in home is needed at meet. Our fosters are all volunteers so aren’t always able to travel too far. Lady as all dogs should have 2 weeks in their new home with just their people who live in the home and to not have people over for at least 2 weeks. Dogs need time to settle in and adjust to their new people and environment first so they can learn to trust them first. Lady takes medication for a seizure disorder and for her eyes.
