NAME:  Muffin BREED:   Maltese SEX:    female COLOR:  white AGE:  est at 6-7 yrs as of July 2026 WEIGHT:   12 lbs LOCATED IN:  Ft Myers SOME COOL INFORMATION ABOUT ME: Meet Muffin!  Muffin is a 6 to 7-year-old Maltese mix weighing 12 pounds, and this little sweetheart knows exactly what she wants out of life. Honestly, it isn't complicated. Muffin wants company. She came to Canine Castaways with Charlie, who may possibly be her son, and one thing has become very clear: Muffin does not enjoy being an only dog or being alone in general. She's happiest when she has someone nearby, whether that's another dog or, even better, a person whose lap happens to be available. Because Muffin is a lap dog through and through. Toys? She can take them or leave them. Playing? She'll let the youngsters handle that. Curling up with her person and keeping them company? Now you're speaking Muffins language.  Muffin can become vocal when she's left alone in a crate, so her ideal home will be one where she has plenty of companionship. Shed especially appreciate having another friendly dog around so she doesn't have to feel like she's on her own. When it comes to grooming, Muffin seems perfectly content to be brushed. Nail trims, however, are not on her list of approved activities, so shell need someone willing to work patiently with her on that particular bit of maintenance. Muffin has just one eye, and unfortunately we don't know what happened to the other one. It doesn't seem to bother her or keep her from enjoying life. She also has a few fatty lipomas, which are benign and aren't currently causing her any problems. At this stage of life, Muffin isn't looking for nonstop entertainment or a packed social calendar. She's looking for something much better. A comfortable home. A canine companion. A favorite person. And, most importantly, a lap with her name on it. If you're looking for a sweet little companion who would much rather be with you than anywhere else, Muffin may be exactly who youve been waiting for. NAME:  Hermie BREED:  Maltese mix SEX:  male COLOR:  white/tan AGE:  estimated DOB Dec 2021 WEIGHT:  11.5 lbs   NOTES ABOUT HERMIE: Meet Hermie!  Hermie is an almost 5-year-old Maltese mix weighing 11.5 pounds, with a gentle soul who is still learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. Hermie's life didn't start the way every dog deserves. He came to Canine Castaways as part of a hoarding and neglect case along with several other dogs, believed to be related. While he is now safe, loved, and cared for, the effects of his past have understandably left him cautious about new people, new places, and new experiences. Hermie isn't the kind of dog who will run up to greet strangers or instantly jump into your lap. He's the kind of dog who watches quietly from a distance, taking everything in and deciding when he's ready. And that's okay. The people who know Hermie best understand that every small step forward is a victory. Every moment of trust he offers is a gift. While he still has work to do, Hermie continues to make progress and show us glimpses of the happy little dog hiding beneath his fears. One thing that helps Hermie feel comfortable is having canine friends around. He would do best in a home with a friendly, outgoing dog about his size who can help show him the ropes and build his confidence. He takes comfort in following the lead of dogs who are comfortable in their surroundings. Hermie is not aggressive. He's simply unsure. He's still working on leash skills and learning that new experiences don't have to be scary. Because of his sensitive nature, he will need a quiet adult-only home with someone experienced in helping fearful dogs gain confidence. A securely fenced yard is also required, giving Hermie a safe place to explore, relax, and continue building trust at his own pace. Hermie isn't looking for someone to change who he is. He's looking for someone who will appreciate him exactly as he is, celebrate his progress, and give him the time he needs to become the dog he's meant to be. The right family wont measure success in days. They'll measure it in tail wags. In moments of trust. In small victories that slowly become a beautiful life. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Dwight Some dogs make an entrance. Dwight quietly tiptoes into your heart. He's a shy, timid little puppy who's still figuring out that the world can be a safe place. Everything is new, and while he's curious, he's also incredibly cautious. What he does know is that he absolutely LOVES his people. If you could hold him 24 hours a day, he would be in heaven. Honestly, if Dwight could crawl inside your skin just to be closer to you, he probably would. "Cuddle bug" doesn't even begin to describe him. He's currently in a foster home with both big and small dogs. He peacefully coexists with them, but right now he's much more interested in finding comfort with his humans than playing. As he continues to gain confidence, we're excited to see more of his personality shine through. Dwight will thrive with a patient family willing to give him lots of one-on-one love as he comes out of his shell. He may do best as the only pet, where he can soak up all the attention. Because he's still so timid, he'll need a securely fenced yard or to always be walked on a leash-if he got scared and had the chance, he would likely run. The best part? He's already neutered, completely potty trained (not a single accident in his foster home!), and has the sweetest, gentlest old soul.
