Filling out an application from our web site at www.caninecastaways.org  is the first step in adopting a new furry family member.IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE AT:   https://www.caninecastaways.org/adoption-application IF A PET IS LISTED THEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE - WE KEEP OUR LISTINGS UP TO DATE AND REMOVE AS SOON AS ADOPTED. NAME:  Hermie BREED:  Maltese mix SEX:  male COLOR:  white/tan AGE:  estimated DOB Dec 2021 WEIGHT:  11.5 lbs   NOTES ABOUT HERMIE: Meet Hermie!  Hermie is an almost 5-year-old Maltese mix weighing 11.5 pounds, with a gentle soul who is still learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. Hermie's life didn't start the way every dog deserves. He came to Canine Castaways as part of a hoarding and neglect case along with several other dogs, believed to be related. While he is now safe, loved, and cared for, the effects of his past have understandably left him cautious about new people, new places, and new experiences. Hermie isn't the kind of dog who will run up to greet strangers or instantly jump into your lap. He's the kind of dog who watches quietly from a distance, taking everything in and deciding when he's ready. And that's okay. The people who know Hermie best understand that every small step forward is a victory. Every moment of trust he offers is a gift. While he still has work to do, Hermie continues to make progress and show us glimpses of the happy little dog hiding beneath his fears. One thing that helps Hermie feel comfortable is having canine friends around. He would do best in a home with a friendly, outgoing dog about his size who can help show him the ropes and build his confidence. He takes comfort in following the lead of dogs who are comfortable in their surroundings. Hermie is not aggressive. He's simply unsure. He's still working on leash skills and learning that new experiences don't have to be scary. Because of his sensitive nature, he will need a quiet adult-only home with someone experienced in helping fearful dogs gain confidence. A securely fenced yard is also required, giving Hermie a safe place to explore, relax, and continue building trust at his own pace. Hermie isn't looking for someone to change who he is. He's looking for someone who will appreciate him exactly as he is, celebrate his progress, and give him the time he needs to become the dog he's meant to be. The right family wont measure success in days. They'll measure it in tail wags. In moments of trust. In small victories that slowly become a beautiful life. And for Hermie, that kind of family would mean everything.   If you are interested in adopting please complete our Adoption Application by copying and pasting the following link into your web browser: http://www.caninecastaways.org/adoption-application For a full list of dogs we currently have for adoption use this link:  https://www.caninecastaways.org/adoptable-dogs MEDICAL INFO: The following has been or will be done for this dog... - Basic Exam by Veterinarian - Spayed or Neutered - Heartworm Tested - Placed on heartworm preventive - Basic Bloodwork - Urinalysis - Microchipped - Intestinal Parasite Exam and medication - Vaccinations - Placed on Flea preventive ADOPTION DONATION: $300 This adoption donation helps to cover the vet expenses for this dog including heartworm preventive which is dispensed at the initial vet visit and then goes with the dog at adoption. Louie was saved from a neglectful home where he wasn't taken care of properly. He came into the rescue with mats up and down body, nails that had grown into his tiny paw pads, a mass the size of a baseball attached to his back limb and rotten teeth. The rescue took this sweet boy in...got him the care and love this sweet senior needed and deserved and now he is ready to meet his forever family. BYW the mass was thankfully benign.
