Story
Please contact Jamesa (roxysrescue@yahoo.com), 713-882-2610 for more information about this pet.Oh what a sweetheart RUBY is and she has come a long way since coming into my home.  When she was found 3 months ago with her brother and dad roaming the streets of San Antonio, TX she had no socialization skills.  I had to walk around holding her, laying on the floor on her level keeping her company and just treating her like a real foster child to get use to my home.  RUBY now comes to me for head rubs and she snuggles with me to sleep and just be close.  A long way of improvements since she use to run from me. She is very crate trained and goes to her crate automatically when I say it is time for me to go out.  She is mostly potty trained, 75% trained.  She runs out of her crate to the backdoor immediately to go potty.  I do not have a doggy door. RUBY would love to go to a home with a pet playmate, she will not do good as an only pet as she follows the dogs around and they are her security.  She is a follower and such a good girl.  She gets along with everyone and walks well on a leash and rides in the car without getting car sick. RUBY is 10 months old and weighs 10 pounds.  Her dad only weighed 14 pounds so I do not expect that she will exceed that weight as a true adult.  There was no sign of her mother anywhere.  She is already so cute but she has a slight underbite which makes her even cutier and unique. RUBY will require grooming every 8-10 weeks because her hair grows and you do not want it to start matting. If you are interested in adopting RUBY please call me or submit an application on the website below.  Thank you. www.roxysk9rescue.org     ADOPTION FEE & APPLICATION REQUIRED   Roxxy's K-9 Rescue does not have a shelter, all of our dogs are raised in foster homes.  Each dog comes  spay/neutered (fixed), rabies shots appropriate for their age, and dewormed twice.  The dogs are up to date on vaccinations according to their age at the time of adoption.  They are microchipped, heartworm tested and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative.  ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE. We transport across the United States. Medical records will come with each dog at the time of adoption. Our organization is run by volunteers/foster parents, please be patient to give us time to respond to your emails and/or phone calls.  We will reply to you.  Thank you.         December 2, 2024, 9:46 am

Story
Say hello to Frieda! She is a 6 year old Maltese/Chihuahua mix (throw in almost 25% Pug and you've got a super cool mutt per her DNA testing!). Frieda is a stout, stocky girl weighing in at 21lbs. This girl is a sweetheart and will make an excellent canine companion for a lucky family. Frieda is housetrained and has wonderful leash manners. She is very food motivated and this has made her training quite fun and rewarding. Frieda does not need a ton of exercise - she is quite content with a daily walk in addition to regular potty breaks. Frieda is not overly needy either - she happily seeks attention, pets, and praise, then is happy to lay on her bed quietly chewing her bone. Just don't be late for breakfast time or dinner time or Frieda will remind you with the song of her people! Frieda would be perfectly happy as the only dog in the home. She does not mind the company of other dogs though and may consider sharing her home with a friendly, calm dog (Frieda is not looking for a playmate, but rather a canine roommate/companion). A quiet, adult home or one with gentle teenagers would be a good match for Frieda as well. Frieda is listed as "special needs" because she is on 3 different medications: an anti-fungal, prozac, and a steroid. These 3 medications seem to be the long awaited secret formula for keeping Frieda free from skin and allergy exacerbations. We are also providing Frieda with a prescription diet of Royal Canin Potato and Rabbit plus her favorite wet food topper Instinct Limited Ingredient Diet Real Rabbit Recipe. She is a fiend for food and easily takes her medication mixed in with her wet food. We have found that twice monthly antifungal baths (which you can do at home) have also kept her coat and skin fresh and clean. Frieda used to receive a monthly Cytopoint injection (for allergies) but has proven to do just fine with longer breaks between injections. Cytopoint may just need to be something that an adopter will consider doing when allergy season is in full bloom. We are looking for an adopter who will maintain a relationship with a veterinarian of their choosing to ensure that Freida is getting regular check ups (at least twice a year) and recommended blood work. The cost of Frieda’s upkeep (medications and food included), can range between $120-200/month and this does not include the cost of veterinary exams or lab work. We hope this does not deter adopters from the opportunity to own the wonderful and rewarding dog that is Frieda. To learn more about how to make Frieda your next 4-legged family member, please contact Beth at beth.b@poainc.org AND complete an application ASAP at www.poainc.org.
