We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
MEET PIPPA: Some dogs arrive at the shelter with confidence. Pippa arrived with fear. At just 7 pounds, the world felt impossibly big for this tiny little girl, and the loud, unfamiliar shelter was an overwhelming place to be. It's hard to imagine how frightened she must have been, waiting for someone who never came. Thankfully, her story didn't end there. Once she was transferred into a loving foster home, the scared little stray began to realize that people could be kind, life could be safe, and love was still waiting for her. Pippa has blossomed into an affectionate little companion who loves being close to her people. She's perfectly content being scooped up for cuddles, happily rides along on car adventures, and has already mastered the art of couch snuggles. She has no trouble navigating stairs, is crate trained, and has demonstrated an excellent understanding of house manners. Pippa has done well with other dogs and has also met cats without concern. Because of her tiny stature, she'll need a family that understands she can easily be injured by rough play with much larger dogs, even if everyone has the best intentions. She would also do best with older, mature, dog-savvy children who understand how to respectfully handle such a petite pup. The big world is still a little intimidating for Pippa, so she'll benefit from continued confidence-building and leash training as she learns that adventures outside aren't so scary after all. She's a quiet little girl who isn't known for being vocal, making her an easy companion to have around the house. Like many Maltese and Yorkie mixes, Pippa will require regular professional grooming, along with routine brushing at home, to keep her beautiful coat healthy, comfortable, and free of painful mats. Due to her size and limited recall, Pippa is not a candidate for a tether or invisible fence. A secure, physically fenced yard will help keep this tiny girl safe while she enjoys exploring at her own pace. Pippa has spent enough time wondering where she belonged. Now she's ready to find a family who will cherish her, protect her, spoil her with endless snuggles, keep her looking her very best, and love her furever. Pippa is:Current on Bordetella, Distemper, and RabiesDewormedHeartworm Tested: NegativeReceiving Heartworm and Flea PreventionMicrochippedScheduled for spay surgery at our partner Veterinary office in Chesterfield on 8/4.ADOPTION FEE: $400 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI. We process applications ONLY - there is no guarantee that you will get a response to an inquiry. Many of the animals in our foster program come to us with limited or unknown histories. We make every effort to evaluate each animal’s temperament and behavior, including testing their interactions with other dogs, cats, and children (defined as individuals under the age of 18, when available). However, every animal is unique—just as every child and household environment is different. While we strive to set both our foster animals and adoptive families up for success through thorough assessments and transparent communication, **we cannot guarantee any specific behavioral outcome**. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program. FUREVER TAILS IS A NON-PROFIT, NO-KILL, FOSTER HOME BASED ANIMAL RESCUE BASED OUT OF OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MI. Story
Meet Junie – Your Tiny Shadow with a Big Heart Life wasn't always easy for little Junie. This adorable 2-year-old, 9-pound Maltese mix was found wandering the streets of Detroit as a stray before making her way to an overcrowded shelter. Like many small dogs suddenly thrown into a loud and unfamiliar environment, Junie was understandably frightened and unsure of the world around her. Once she realized she was safe, Junie's true personality began to shine. She is a sweet, social little lady who absolutely loves attention and is happiest when she's close to her people. Whether she's soaking up pets, following you from room to room, or curling up nearby after a busy day, Junie is ready to be someone's devoted companion. Junie gets along well with other dogs and has met cats without any concerns. Because of her petite size, we believe she would do best with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to respectfully interact with a small dog. She has demonstrated a good understanding of house manners, is crate trained, and rides wonderfully in the car, making her an easy companion for errands or adventures. She's still working on building confidence and polishing her leash-walking skills, but with patience, consistency, and plenty of encouragement, she's making great progress. She would not do well with an invisible fence or a tether system. Like many Maltese-type dogs, Junie will require regular professional grooming to keep her soft coat healthy, comfortable, and free from mats. All Junie is looking for now is what every dog deserves—a family who will continue showing her that life is full of love, kindness, and belly rubs. In return, she'll reward you with endless affection, unwavering companionship, and a heart that's ready to belong to someone forever. If you're searching for a sweet little best friend who will happily make you the center of her world, Junie is ready to meet the family who will love her furever. Story
Oh Laura, such a shy, sweet little thing. She is estimated to be about 3 years old and weighs 8 pounds. Here are a few nice facts about her. She is quite scared right now, poor little muffin A little unsure in this busy kennel environment Darling girl was covered in fleas, but she is safe now and all treated Shy, but really wants to trust you, just takes a little time, then she will snuggle in your lap Wags her cute little tail when she is feeling comfortable, it makes your heart happy You just need to go slow with her right now Such a gentle treat taker - loved the little hotdog pieces during her photo shoot Will just lean close to you when she feels safe and loves soft pets Laura will do best in a quieter, more low-key type of home with adults only. She can't wait to find a home where she feels safe and loved, she will just blossom. Laura is going to make someone the best little friend, she would love it if you came to meet her. If you are interested in Laura and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch.
