** AVAILABLE ON-SITE ONLY ON FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS ** Total Adoption Fee: $895 This includes our standard adoption fee of $395 plus an additional required $500 tax-deductible donation. Why the additional donation? Dogs with highly desirable traits—such as low-shedding coats and popular breeds—help us fund lifesaving care for dogs who need it most, including nursing moms, imaging and surgeries for dogs with traumatic injuries, and medications for those requiring lifesaving heartworm treatments. Your generosity makes this possible! Elaine is a very sweet girl who is warm with everyone she meets! She has a great disposition and an even cuter face with an adorable underbite. She gets along with other dogs and loves to chew on her toys or play fetch. Given ample potty breaks, Elaine does well with house training and she is crate trained. While she is curious by nature and loves to explore, her favorite place is curled up on the lap of someone she loves. Make an appointment to see if your lap is the perfect spot for Elaine!

Story
My former husband and Zuzu were very bonded. It has been 4 years since we split and she is not very warm towards anyone else. She is high strung and she will pee/poop in the house if not taken out constantly.

Story
Meet Charlie Bean — a 10-year-old, 9 lb Maltese mix with a heart full of love and loyalty! Quick Facts: Name: Charlie Bean Breed: Maltese Mix Age:  10 years old Weight: 9 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes (he may chase them or try to play with them) Good with Kids: No Energy Level: Low to medium Fence Required: Yes Special Considerations: Charlie Bean bonds strongly with ONE person and loves the ladies so a single, female-only home is required for him. He can be protective of his favorite person, which can manifest in reactivity when new people are around or approach him. He will need a special adopter who provides patience, clear boundaries, and gentle guidance so he can feel more secure and comfortable in those moments. About Charlie Bean’s Breed: Our best guess is that Charlie Bean is a Maltese mix. Maltese dogs are affectionate, gentle, and elegant companions, best known for their silky white coats and loving personalities. They thrive in homes where they are treated as part of the family and given plenty of attention. An ideal home for a Maltese is one that provides a safe, comfortable indoor environment, as they are small and sensitive to extreme weather. They adapt well to apartments or houses, as long as they receive daily companionship, moderate exercise, and regular grooming. Maltese dogs are happiest in calm households where they can enjoy being close to their humans, often curled up on a lap or nestled on a soft blanket. Charlie Bean is a well-mannered gentleman who is completely potty trained and crate trained, though he doesn’t need a crate when left alone thanks to his respectful nature. Having been through a lot, he feels safest when his chosen human is close by and would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time. He enjoys the outdoors but needs a fenced yard to keep him safe. Charlie needs a special home with a single, female only as he doesn't like male energy and bonds very deeply with one person. He gets along well with other dogs and has lived with a cat, though he occasionally enjoys a playful chase. On leash, he’s a pro and loves taking little walks, still showing off some moderate play energy despite his age! Charlie Bean’s Charming Highlights: • Potty and crate trained, very respectful in the home • Only likes female companionship (sorry guys!) • Good with dogs, enjoys gentle play • Loves walks and moderate playtime • Lap dog at heart, happiest being held and snuggled • Ideal home: a female companion who stays home often and has lots of love to give (may not be ideal for a first-time dog parent) Charlie Bean is a loving, easy-going companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side, offering endless cuddles and devotion. He’s the perfect match for a calm, caring home with one female owner where he can spend his days being cherished! Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Story
Meet Ken — a 2 year old, 7 lb Yorkie–Maltese mix with a heart of pure gold and the sweetest, softest spirit. Quick Facts: Name: Ken Breed: Yorkshire Terrier/Maltese Mix Age: 2 years old Weight: 7 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: No Good with Dogs: Yes, small dogs only Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Good with older kids Energy Level: Low to medium (very loving) Fence Required: No Special Needs:  Megaesophagus: a condition where the esophagus (food tube) becomes enlarged and loses muscle tone, failing to move food and water to the stomach. Ken will need a special, upright feeding routine with specially prepared food. He will also need to take the following medications for the rest of his life: Metoclopramide, Omeneprozale, Sildenafil, and Famotidine. About Ken’s Breed: Our best guess is that Ken is a Yorkshire Terrier/Maltese mixed breed. Yorkie–Maltese mixes, often called Morkies, are known for their sweet, affectionate personalities and their love of being close to their people. They’re typically gentle, social, and eager for attention, with a soft, cuddly side balanced by a bit of playful spunk. Their small size and loving nature make them wonderful companion dogs who thrive on human connection. An ideal home for a Yorkie/Maltese mix is one that offers consistent routines, lots of affection, and a calm, attentive environment. They do best with families who can give them plenty of companionship and are mindful of their small size and potential medical sensitivities. A patient, loving household that enjoys close bonded dogs will bring out the very best in this charming little mix. What to Love about Ken: This tiny gentleman is incredibly affectionate, loves being close to his people, and happily sleeps at the foot of the bed every night. He’s friendly with everyone he meets, gentle with other small dogs, and great with cats. Bigger dogs can intimidate him, so a home with small, calm pets is ideal. Ken is potty trained, though he still has occasional accidents and does best with a consistent schedule since he doesn’t always signal when he needs to go out. He’s low to medium energy, enjoys playtime, and loves going for walks — but he must use a harness, not a collar, due to his medical needs. This little guy requires an experienced, patient adopter who can lovingly manage his condition, Megaesophagus. Ken needs slurry meals and upright feedings, plus water in small, controlled amounts. He takes multiple daily medications and will need someone committed to his routine and comfort. Despite his medical challenges, Ken is joyful, loving, and full of personality. He’ll paw at you or give a tiny bark when he wants attention, and he absolutely thrives on affection. Ken’s Highlights: • 2&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old, 7 lb Yorkie–Maltese mix who is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and people&#226&#128&#145oriented • Potty trained, though he needs a consistent schedule since he doesn’t always signal when he needs to go • Great with small dogs and cats; nervous around larger dogs • Low&#226&#128&#145to&#226&#128&#145medium energy, enjoys walks with a harness only due to medical needs • Lives with Megaesophagus and requires slurry meals, upright feedings, water in small amounts, and multiple daily medications • Sleeps at the foot of the bed, loves attention, and will paw or bark gently when he wants affection Ken is a tender, devoted companion who just wants to be loved and cared for. With the right person, he’ll be the most loyal little shadow and a truly special addition to the home.
