Maltese dogs are affectionate, people-oriented companions known for their loving personalities and strong bonds with their families. Despite their small size, they are often confident, playful, and surprisingly spirited little dogs who enjoy both playtime and cuddling on the couch. When we first met her in 2018, she was a frightened little wallflower who had spent her life surrounded by dogs but knew very little about being somebody’s pet. Then Sheila adopted her, renamed her Noel, and quietly introduced her to a much bigger world. Noel learned what it meant to have a person, a home, a routine — and a life. A few years later, a tiny four-week-old Morkie puppy named Tara joined the family. Noel became her mentor, her security blanket, and eventually her best friend. They have been together ever since. Now Noel is 13 years old, and circumstances have changed again. Sheila has experienced a serious health crisis and can no longer care for the girls. Her request was simple - please keep Noel and Tara together. Noel and Tara are a bonded pair and will be adopted together. This was their owner’s request, and we believe it is the right thing for both girls.   Exercise: Low. Noel is a laid-back senior who needs a couple of slow, meandering walks each day and then is quite happy to head back inside. Best with: Tara, of course! Noel also gets along well with other dogs and has spent much of her life with canine company. Not ideal for: A very busy or high-energy household. Noel has already had a lot of changes and deserves a quieter place to land. Energy level: Low. Noel is a sweet, gentle senior girl who is understandably a little confused by suddenly finding herself back in a group setting after so many years in a home. She is eating, drinking and doing all the things she should be doing — but this is not the life she thought she would return to. Having Tara beside her has made all the difference. Medically, Noel has received regular veterinary care throughout her years with Sheila. Her recent records note elevated liver values that are being monitored and a presumptive diagnosis of chronic hepatopathy. A dental procedure was postponed because of those liver values. She also has several small age-related skin growths. We will share her complete medical history with potential adopters. Good with dogs: Yes — Noel gets along with dogs of all kinds, although Tara is her girl. Good with kids: Unknown. Noel is a very gentle dog, and we think she could do well with older, respectful children who have been taught kindness around senior dogs. Cats: Untested since returning to us, but we would be happy to introduce her to a few cats and see what she thinks. Fun fact: Noel looks beautiful in pink. She is absolutely a princess, and after everything this former frightened little hoarding dog has accomplished, we think the rest of her life should be spent being treated like one. Noel once needed another dog to show her that the world was safe.  Then, when Tara came along as a tiny puppy, Noel became the dog who showed her.  Now these two best friends need one final home together. Not a dog who might climb up beside you if the mood strikes. Tara believes laps were invented specifically for her. She is an extraordinarily affectionate, snuggly little girl who has spent her life being loved, cherished and cared for — and she would very much like that arrangement to continue, please. Tara came into Sheila’s life as a tiny four-week-old Morkie puppy. Noel, Sheila’s older CPR dog, became Tara’s mentor, security blanket and best friend. The girls have been together ever since, and when Sheila’s health failed, her request was that they remain together. We agree. Tara and Noel will be adopted as a pair. Must have: Noel. These two girls are family, and they are going home together. Exercise: Low to moderate. Tara enjoys getting out and about, but her favorite destination is still going to be your lap. Best with: Someone who genuinely wants a companion dog close by. A retired person or couple who is home often and has plenty of love to give would be absolutely wonderful for Tara and Noel. They don’t need a busy social calendar. They need people who want company — because these girls have plenty of it to give. Not ideal for: A home where dogs are expected to be independent or spend most of the day by themselves. Tara wants a relationship with her people, preferably at extremely close range. Energy level: Low to moderate. Tara is younger than Noel and has a little more pep, but she is not looking for an athletic career. Her primary occupation is companionship. Tara has been very well loved and well cared for throughout her life. Her veterinary records show consistent preventive care and regular dental care. She had another routine dental cleaning in June 2026 and is not currently on any daily medication. Good with dogs: Yes. Tara has lived happily with Noel for years and is comfortable with canine companionship. Good with kids: Unknown. Tara is a small, affectionate dog, so we would want children who understand how to be gentle and respectful with little dogs. Cats: Untested, but we would be happy to introduce her to cats and see what she thinks. Fun fact: Tara’s definition of personal space is simple: if there is room between you and Tara, Tara intends to fix that. We think Noel and Tara could be absolutely wonderful companions for someone retired or home much of the time who is looking for two little dogs to share the quiet parts of life with. Noel brings the gentle, steady presence. Tara brings the snuggles. Lots and lots of snuggles. These girls have spent years being loved. This breaks my heart, but with a new baby who is now crawling, it has become increasingly difficult to manage our older boy occasionally peeing on the carpet. He is potty trained, but we believe the adjustment to having a baby and less attention has been hard on him. We want what’s best for him and our growing family.He is a very timid boy with a little only-child syndrome! 😂 He is a total lap dog who loves being close to his humans. He’s very laid-back, keeps to himself, and doesn’t play much. He does okay around other dogs but would prefer to be the only dog in the home. He is also good with kids!Leo loves walks, treats, and car rides!Aside from the occasional accident, he is an easygoing, loving companion. This decision is incredibly hard because we love him so much, and we hope to find him a home where he can get all the love, attention, and cuddles he deserves. ❤️

*** AVAILABLE ON-SITE ONLY FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS *** Birgit came to Saving Grace in rough shape, but with a little TLC in one of our wonderful foster homes, this sweet girl has blossomed into the precious cuddlebug she was meant to be. Her favorite place is right beside her people, and her goal in life is to be your tiny shadow! Birgit gets along well with small dogs, big dogs, and cats and loves snuggling with both adults and children. Because she is such a little lady, older or respectful children would be the best fit for her. She sleeps peacefully through the night in her crate and is perfectly happy to curl up in a cozy dog bed or under a soft blanket. A lady of fashion, Birgit appreciates a sweater as the cooler weather is coming. With a consistent schedule, she has excellent house manners, too. Birgit isn't particularly interested in toys or chews, but she will never turn down a soft treat—and she already knows how to sit! She likes to take walks and does fine on a leash, but she also does wonderfully in a fenced yard. In fact, she's an all-around dream dog, with her calm, pleasant nature making her a joy both at home and in the car. Birgit does have some ongoing skin and allergy needs and seems to do best while on a poultry-free diet, so potential adopters should be prepared to work with their veterinarian to manage how to keep this little girl looking and feeling her best. But in return, she offers a whole lot of sweetness, companionship, and cuddles. This sweet girl would love nothing more than a home where she can stay close to her people, soak up plenty of love, and spend her days curled up in a cozy bed—or, even better, on your lap.

This sweet guy is Fluffy. He is a 10 pound 6-year-old white maltese mix, and is very friendly. He has done well with children, is very sweet with the staff, and appears to be doing well with his potty training. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $300. Our hospital is open for adoption visitation Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 5:00pm and Saturday's from 8:00am to 11:00am.  If you have any questions please feel free to call us at             919-266-8177 or email pets4adoption@bellsouth.net.  All adoption fees are cash or check only, we do not accept credit cards for adoption fees.
