Story
My former husband and Zuzu were very bonded. It has been 4 years since we split, and she has not bonded with anyone else. She is a very cautious, tentative dog with my son and me, but she was very affectionate and enthusiastic with my former husband. She just needs to be with a person she connects with.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. INTERESTED IN MEETING OR ADOPTING WALNUT from Best Friend Pet Adoption rescue? If so, please fill out our dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window: https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC.   Meet  Walnut  — a little dog who weighs 11lbs with a big, sunny personality.  Walnut is a 5 year old terrier mix.   Small in size but full of joy, Walnut is fun loving, cheerful and eager to be part of your world.  He thrives on attention and playtime—fetch is a favorite!—but he’s also wonderfully adaptable. When you’re busy with human stuff, Walnut is perfectly content to settle down at your feet, happy just to be near you.    He is used to having people home during the day, and does not do well if left alone for long periods. Since he is a very people-centric dog, an adopter who works from home or is home most of the time will be the best fit for him.    This good boy comes with excellent house manners and is crate trained.  He knows basic commands like sit and stay.  He has been trained not to race out of the door for a walk, but to allow you to go out first. He is very alert and will bark if anyone comes to the house.     Walnut will respect his boundaries like staying off certain furniture or waiting patiently by the dinner table during mealtimes. He listens well to a calm, confident leader. He's not food- or toy-aggressive.     Walnut is a good walker on leash, though a bit on the toddling, slow side. He does not need a fenced yard and is used to walks. He loves his twice daily 30-minute walks plus a few short ones to do his business.    Walnut would be an ideal companion for a single adopter who wants a devoted sidekick. He has been a one-person dog although he might learn to do well in a family setting with older kids if given a good initial effort at socialization to help him feel comfortable in new situations. He has not been exposed to living with cats or other dogs.  One delightful bonus? Walnut has been spotted standing on his back legs  just to get a better look at something—an impressive little feat that hints he could be a natural for agility training  or other fun, confidence-building activities. The video shows him searching for food hidden in a blanket!  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants ideally should live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore prefer applicants that live within an hours drive of Cary NC.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING WALNUT ? Meet Kyrus – A Beautiful Boy with Energy, Spirit, and a Love for Socks Quick Facts: Breed: Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier mix (Morkie) DOB: 5/12/2024 Weight: 11.5 lbs House-Trained: In progress Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not introduced Good with Kids: Not introduced Energy Level: High Fence Required: Yes Special Traits: Loves socks, easygoing play style, very people-oriented Why You’ll Love Kyrus: Absolutely beautiful with a personality to match Loves people and thrives on attention Playful and energetic with an easygoing style Crate trained and learning quickly Equal parts spirited and sweet About Kyrus’s Breed: Morkies (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier mixes) are known for their lively personalities, affectionate nature, and intelligence. They are often spirited little companions who bond closely with their families and thrive in homes that provide engagement and consistency. With proper structure and activity, they make devoted and entertaining lifelong companions. Kyrus’s Story & Personality: Kyrus is a stunning young boy with a bright spirit and lots of energy to share. He is still working on house training but is crate trained and settling into routines nicely. Once fully housebroken, he can be left alone for reasonable periods. He can walk on a leash and is improving every day, but he will need continued guidance and consistency. Because of his high energy level, a securely fenced yard is important so he can safely burn off steam. He would do best in an energetic household that enjoys activity and engagement. Kyrus does well with other dogs and has an easygoing play style. He loves people and truly enjoys being part of the action. While he hasn’t yet been introduced to kids or cats, his friendly and social personality suggests he will thrive with proper introductions. He doesn’t care much for traditional toys — but give him a sock and he’s thrilled! At bedtime, he may cry or howl briefly when first crated, but he settles down quickly and sleeps well through the night. Kyrus would likely do best in a home where someone is around most of the time, as he enjoys companionship and engagement. With structure, patience, and plenty of activity, he will blossom into an incredible lifelong companion. Kyrus’s Ideal Home: Securely fenced yard Energetic household Someone committed to continued house and leash training Possibly someone home most of the time A family ready for a spirited young companion Ready to Add Some Energy and Beauty to Your Life? Kyrus is ready to bring fun, affection, and a little sock-stealing charm into his forever home. If you’re looking for a lively young companion with a beautiful soul, Kyrus may be your perfect match. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. To ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. *** AVAILABLE ON-SITE ONLY FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS *** Total Adoption Fee: $1395 This includes our standard adoption fee of $395 plus an additional required $1000 tax-deductible donation. Why the additional donation? Dogs with highly desirable traits—such as low-shedding coats and popular breeds—help us fund lifesaving care for dogs who need it most, including nursing moms, imaging and surgeries for dogs with traumatic injuries, and medications for those requiring lifesaving heartworm treatments. Your generosity makes this possible! Meet Acai! This beautiful little white cloud has settled into foster life like she’s always belonged. She adapts quickly, is crate trained, and is doing great with her house training, making her an easy addition to a lucky home. Acai walks nicely on leash, enjoys playtime with her foster dog sibling, and can happily keep up when it’s time for activity. But her favorite place? Right in your lap. She’s a true shadow dog, following her person from room to room just to be close. When the adventures are done, she’s all about cuddles and soaking up the love. Acai is also a smart cookie — she already knows sit, down, and roll over, takes treats gently, and has a great appetite. With her sweet nature, soft floofy coat, and perfect mix of playful energy and snuggly charm, she brings joy wherever she goes. If you’re looking for a small companion who is equal parts sweet, loyal, and fun, Acai is ready to be your little best friend.
