Story
🪻 Mia 🪻 Buckle up. Settle in. Lend an ear. It’s story time. Once upon a time, a family went searching for a tiny, fluffy, designer puppy. They got Mia a bright, sensitive little soul who should have been given guidance, boundaries, and safety. She wasn’t starved. She wasn’t crated for 23 hours a day. But she was deprived of the structure and advocacy that allow a young dog to grow into a mentally healthy adult. We don’t believe in “bad” dogs. We believe in dogs who were failed, misunderstood, or left to figure out the world without support. And when that happens, their coping skills twist into something reactive, defensive, or chaotic. These dogs are harder to place. But they are not hopeless. They are worth fighting for. We took Mia in as a surrender, and her behavior was not disclosed. She’s been with us for a bit now and as she's gotten comfortable her behaviors have come to light. Mia is over a year old now. From what we understand, she lived in a home with several children, no real training, no corrections, and no one stepping in when she was overwhelmed. No adult stepped in to protect her. So she learned to protect herself. And here’s the truth: Mia wakes with violence if startled. Mia guards certain items and will snap if pushed. But since being with us we've been working with her and her behaviors are manageable with the right approach. And we want to give credit where it’s due - Max from Ready, Set, Train has been incredible, helping us understand Mia’s triggers and giving us tools that actually work for her. With structure, consistency, and cheap anxiety medication from our vet, Mia is already showing improvement. Many organizations would label her unadoptable. We don’t. Because we’ve also seen the other side of her. Mia is a joyous, energetic, hilarious little sprite. She is spunky, friendly, and loves the car. She’ll run outside in any weather like she’s training for the Olympics. She is still a puppy at heart - curious, bright, and full of potential. But potential only matters if someone is willing to meet her where she is. What Mia Needs: She needs a person who is ready to learn, to listen, and to advocate for her. Someone who understands that reactive behaviors can be managed with consistency and education. Her adopter must be willing to: - Continue her training - Has to have a designated sleeping area in a kennel or taller x-pen - Use treats to trade for items she guards - Provide structure, training, and routine - Protect her from situations that overwhelm her - Accept her as she is today while helping her grow into who she could be She deserves someone who sees her more than her triggers. Some dogs need a village. Mia needs her person. Adoption fee: $350 ------------------------------------------------- We ask that you fill out our adoption application to start. We ask people to be approved for adoption before meeting our animals one-on-one because we would hate for someone to fall in love and things not work out. www.furangelsrs.com/ Our adoption requirements are under 'ready-to-adopt,' and the dog application is under the 'dog' section. Story
Little Apollo came to FDHS as a stray alongside his bestie Artemis. He’s estimated to be around 6 years old and we are guessing him to be a Poodle mix with a whole lot of personality packed into a very small frame.Apollo might be a little guy, but he fully believes he is “large and in charge.” He’s got big feelings, a little bit of sass, and absolutely no awareness of how small he actually is. He carries himself like he runs the place, even if he could be mistaken for a well-loved stuffed animal.Once he’s comfortable, Apollo is social and engaging, with a confident streak that comes out more and more as he settles in. New people and situations can take him a moment to warm up to, but he adjusts with time and consistency. He does well on leash and enjoys getting out for strolls at his own pace. He would prefer a low-traffic, calm home with a cozy spot where he can keep an eye on everything.Apollo would love to be adopted with Artemis, since they came in together and definitely seem to bring each other comfort. However, he could also do well on his own as long as he has a patient home that understands his spicy little “boss dog” personality.**Neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines & monthly prevention. Weighs about 15 lbs**

Story
This little floof is Artemis!Artemis came to FDHS as a stray with her best friend Apollo (also available!). We’re estimating she’s around 6 years old and she looks like some kind of Poodle mix. She’s a small girl with big feelings and an even bigger voice to go with them. Artemis can be a little shy when meeting new people, but she warms up with patience and once she’s comfortable, her sweet side really starts to come through. She walks nicely on leash and enjoys getting out and adventuring. At the end of the day, she’s happiest curled up in her dog bed, settled in and relaxed.Artemis would really love to be adopted with Apollo, since they came in together and clearly have a great friendship going. That said, she could also do well in a home on her own as long as she has a patient person willing to give her time to adjust.**Spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines & monthly prevention. Weighs about 12 lbs**

Story
Dylan is a sweet Chihuahua Maltese mix. He is three years old. He does not have the Chihuahua personality. Dylan does not bond to only one member of the family, he loves the whole family equally. He loves short walks, he needs to be walked on a harness. He loves playing in the backyard. He is housebroken, crate trained, leash trained current on his vaccinations, had a dental 4 months ago, is on flea and tick and heart worm medication. Dylan is an all around happy little boy. Dylan is 9 lbs and loves all dog food, he’s not a picker eater. Dylan is my heart, I love him tremendously! I have to re home him because I am terminally ill. I have to go into hospice. All I am looking for is a safe, happy, loving home for my Dylan. He will be the family’s best friend and sidekick! He would be very happy if there was another dog in the home. He’s not good around cats. He wants to play with them like they are dogs. He’s nervous around small children, he would do well with children 8 or older.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.UPDATE: Nala is a bit standoffish when she first meets people, she is more comfortable with women than men but still growls and barks when meeting any new people, we are working on socialization skills. She is also doing well with house training but she is potty pad trained and still uses them from time to time.  Nala is the kind of gal that once she loves you she is yours and prefers to be only yours! I believe Nala would do best with no dogs in the home as she lived in a home with four other dogs and really does prefer one-on-one attention. Preferably only older children that are not loud or no children at all. She loves to play ball, and is currently learning to bring it back to you! Nala does tend to bark a lot when you leave her so probably no apartments, Condominiums, or duplexes for her. I am still learning more about her as times goes on. UPDATE: Nala is a Bichon Frise,  3 years old and potty pad trained. So far she's a wonderful lap dog and loves to play with toys. Meet the Quartet of Cuteness!   Nala, Bella Olaf and Big Mac aka Max are all Bichon Frise / Maltese mixes.  They may be a mom, dad and two offspring but we aren't certain.  What we do know is they all came from the same home.  Their owner died and the family was unable to keep them.  Each one has a distinct personality:  Bella is described as an 'attention hog', while Nala is more laid back and will not seek attention, but if you are willing to give it she will happily accept it.  Big Mac aka Max seems more outgoing than Olaf, who prefers at this point to 'observe' his world.  All are said to be good with other dogs and children. All will need time to adjust to a new home and routine.  Even though they are said to be good with other dogs and children, they have only lived together, so all will need slow and proper introductions to children and other dogs.  We don't know how they are with cats.  They all need basic training, including potty training.  Vet appointments for needed vaccines and spay/neuter are being done soon.  Because of their breed, each will require ongoing grooming, an additional cost to consider. We know these littles won't be with us for long so if interested in adopting any of them please apply soon.     Happy Days Dog & Cat Rescue requires a Spay/Neuter Contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization at the time of adoption. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. HDDCR holds a deposit [$50 for dogs, $25 for cats] in addition to the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog or cat was spayed/neutered by the date stipulated on the Spay/Neuter Contract. The deposit will be refunded to the adopter if spay/neuter was done according to the Spay/Neuter Contract signed by the adopter. Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The microchip is transferred to the adopter once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a one-time $15 microchip enrollment fee, paid at the time of adoption.  Microchips are enrolled with AKC Reunite.    Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
