Story
Votto's family recently made the tough decision that a new home would be best for him. Votto is an absolute sweetheart whose specialty is professional-level cuddling-he could happily snuggle on the couch with you all day long. Votto is a high-energy, fun-loving boy who loves to play! He found his match with his foster's dog, and they would play non-stop if allowed. Votto has been raised around two young boys and he absolutely adores kids and does great in a family setting. He also definitely has a lot to say! Votto can be a bit of a yapper when meeting new people or dogs, or whenever he feels someone else is stealing his spotlight. Votto currently wears a belly band indoors while working on his potty habits. He's making fantastic progress-with 4 to 5 regular potty breaks a day, his bands stay almost completely dry! Votto is an affectionate, silly, and joyful pup looking for a family who will embrace his vocal personality and keep up with his love for playtime. Story
I first learned about Boo through a social media post, and something about his story stayed with me. Boo had been brought into a family because their child wanted a dog. But after two or three years, when the child lost interest, Boo was left outside and slowly forgotten. Eventually, the family began telling people in the neighborhood that they wanted to get rid of him, and that if no one took him, he would be sent to a city shelter. Someone in the neighborhood heard about Boo's situation and shared his story and photos on social media, hoping that someone would come forward to help him. The post received a lot of attention and comments, but Boo was already six years old, and despite all the people who saw his story, no one stepped forward to take him in. Then Dogscover saw his photos. What stood out the most were his eyes. They looked so empty, as though Boo had stopped believing that anyone was coming for him. There was no expectation, no excitement, almost no hope left in them. Something kept us going back to that photo, unable to stop thinking about this little dog who had spent so much of his life being unwanted and overlooked. We knew we couldn't simply scroll past his story and forget about him. Something in us kept saying that Boo deserved someone to choose him. So we decided to rescue him. Today, Boo is a very different little dog. He is a Maltese through and through, with a huge personality packed into his tiny body. More than anything, Boo absolutely loves people. Human attention is his favorite thing in the world, and given the choice, he would almost always choose being beside his person over anything else. He is friendly with other dogs, but honestly, they aren't really his priority. Boo is much more interested in people and would happily spend his day following his human around and soaking up all the love and attention he can get. When it comes to cats, Boo likes to pretend he is much braver than he really is. He may bark at them at first and put on quite a dramatic performance, but the truth is that he is actually scared of cats. If a cat hisses at him, Boo is usually the one running away! He also absolutely loves car rides and is always happy to hop in and go wherever his person is going. To Boo, the destination doesn't really matter as long as he gets to be there with his human. Boo is sweet, affectionate, funny, a little opinionated, a little dramatic, and completely full of personality-pretty much a classic Maltese. But what makes him especially precious is knowing how far he has come. There was a time when Boo was left outside, forgotten by the family who had once wanted him, and facing the possibility of being sent to a shelter. He was six years old and had seemingly been overlooked by everyone. Then someone finally saw him, and his life began to change. Good with women: yes Good with men: yes Good with children: yes, older children recommended as his interactions with kids has been limited Good with other dogs: yes, gets along with dogs but is generally more interested in humans Good with cats: yes House trained: yes Crate trained: yes Energy Level: medium Can be handled/touched: yes Flight risk: no, but extra caution should always be taken in the beginning Food aggression: no Barker: sometimes - like a typical Maltese, Boo may bark when something catches his attention but does not excessively bark Walks on leash: yes Leash reactive to people or dogs: no Rides well in cars: yes Destructive: no Needs a home with a yard: preferred Needs a home with another dog: no Can live in an apartment: no Please visit our website niagaradogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs.
