Story
We were contacted by our wonderful partners at Pet Country Market Beamsville after hearing about Oscar’s story, and we couldn’t turn away. A long-time customer shared her concerns after spotting Oscar several times near her cottage in Campbellford, ON. Oscar had been purchased as a puppy by a young neighbour but sadly spent his nights chained outside, with no doghouse, bed, or toys. During the day, he was left to roam freely and has even been spotted walking on thin ice. With bears, coyotes, and winter approaching, her heart broke every time this sweet boy would come over just to say “hi” and get some attention when he realized there was someone nearby. Determined to help, she gently approached Oscar’s owner and asked if he would surrender him, so someone could find him the loving home he truly deserves. Thanks to her compassion, Oscar is now safe! 🙏 Oscar is a 9-month-old Maremma Sheepdog mix, neutered & up to date on vaccines, heartworm & tick fever negative. He’s very gentle, kid-friendly and house trained. He’s also good on walks, has good recall and knows basic commands. Oscar is currently working with a professional dog trainer to continue building his skills and become the best version of himself. Because of his rough start and having to look after himself outdoors, Oscar is not a fan of cats. He’s done well with the three dogs in his foster home, though he can be a bit selective with other dogs — just like many pups learning how to socialize. Oscar already found his first angel who rescued him from a dangerous situation. Now he’s waiting for his second miracle: a forever family who will give him a warm bed, toys, safety, and the unconditional love he’s always deserved. Could Oscar be the missing piece in your family? Energy level: medium Can be handled/touched: Not initially, he takes some time to warm up to people. Ajax is extremely affectionate once he gets to know you. Barker: Just to alert us to visitors and before meal times. Flight Risk: No Food aggressive: With other dogs, yes. Familiar people, no. Walks on a leash: Yes Rides well in a car: Yes Destructive: No Needs a home with a yard: Yes Needs another dog: No, should be the only dog Can live in an apartment: No, would love a country setting he isn't a city dog Back Story: Dumped in a veterinary practice's parking lot in bad shape and found to have large bladder stones. NDR raised the money for his surgery and he has made a full recovery but will need to stay on special food to prevent any further medical issues with stones coming back. Hi nice to meet you Ajax here let me tell you just a little about me and I was told honesty is the best policy for me to find my human Soulmate! I will need a strong, confident handler that is willing to show me leadership and consistency , I'm a very sweet boy if your willing to give me the time I will need to adapt to my new home and surroundings. I love to go swimming (It's one of my favorite things) hiking or just being the Andy Griffith dog lounging on the front porch catching some rays!!!. My good friends Stephanie and Elizabeth love taking me out on adventures and tell me what a good boy I am (shhh I love those girls) but it took awhile to trust them but man I'm glad I did !! I'm told I'm a little difficult sometimes and that's why my friends are making sure I find the exact home that will let me shine. I may not be perfect but with the right person I know I will be amazing. So that's all I'm going to say about me I will let my other friends fill you in on the rest; all my friends at NDR just want to see me shine in my new beginning!! I hope to meet you soon and lets let life adventures begin!!!
