Story
Hi, I’m Orville.  I am a senior boy looking to relax in a home for my golden years. I will need typical senior care special needs. Dog’s Name: Orville Location: St. Joseph, IL Date of Birth: 06/28/2017 Gender: Male Breed: Mastiff Mix Color: Brindle Dog's Weight: 118 Gets along with: Dogs?: All Dogs Cats?:  All Cats Kids?: Have not tested with kids Training: Leash trained: Walks loose on leash Crate/Kennel:  Goes into crate/kennel on command Potty trained: Indicates a need to potty and doesn’t have indoor accidents Car:  Rides Well in car Meet Orville Orville is the definition of laid-back love. This tall, gentle boy is happiest right by your side — truly your shadow in the very best way. Whether you're moving from room to room or enjoying a quiet afternoon, Orville will calmly stroll along beside you. He’s a pleasure on walks and just as easy in the yard, where he prefers to stay close rather than wander. Orville is wonderfully quiet and only speaks up when it’s time to head outside. His house manners are impeccable — he has his potty routine down perfectly and hasn’t had a single accident in foster care. He politely sits for his food bowl and treats, and at this stage in life, he’s more about companionship than chaos. While he may be a little slower these days, that just makes him an easy keeper and an incredibly devoted companion. Orville is quiet and well mannered, great on walks, fully house trained, does not require a fenced yard, will do well as an only dog or with a calm buddy, and an excellent choice for a first-time giant breed owner. Orville isn’t looking for adventure — he’s looking for connection. If you’re hoping for a steady, gentle presence who will faithfully follow you through life’s simple moments, Orville is ready to be your loyal best friend. Story
Hi, I’m Castor and I’m ready to find my forever home!  Dog’s Name: Castor Location: Oak Par, IL Date of Birth: 5/26/2024 Gender: Female  Breed: Mastiff Color: Brown Dog's Weight: 69 Gets along with: Dogs?: Unsure Cats?:  Unsure Kids?: Unsure Training: Leash Trained: Walks loose leash Crate Trained: Goes to crate/kennel on command Potty Trained: Indicates a need to potty and doesn’t have indoor accident Meet Caster Good catch. Here's the corrected version with his name as Castor throughout: Castor may be one of the smaller dogs in rescue, but don't let his size fool you. This young guy is packed full of energy, enthusiasm, and personality. He loves being involved in whatever his people are doing and is happiest when he's right by your side. Whether you're moving from room to room or heading out for an adventure, Castor is ready to join in. One of Castor's favorite things in the world is spending time with his humans. He's affectionate, loves giving kisses, and has a knack for becoming your loyal shadow. In the home, he's generally calm and settles nicely, though his curious nature and active mind can occasionally lead him into a little mischief. Castor is potty trained, highly food motivated, and goes into his crate on command. He rides reasonably well in the car, though he's still working on staying calm around passing dogs and people. Like many smart, energetic young dogs, he's always looking for opportunities to explore, which means his future family will need to be mindful of his escape-artist tendencies. Castor has been known to chew through leashes when tied out and may attempt to make his own adventures if given the opportunity. We want to be honest that Castor is currently reactive on walks and will need continued training and management. He can have strong reactions to dogs and sometimes to people who get too close. The good news is that he's already showing improvement, and his foster family believes he has great potential with consistent guidance. Because we're still learning about him, his compatibility with other dogs remains uncertain, though he has successfully met a calm dog while on leash. His interactions with cats have been limited but encouraging, as he has shown curiosity without tension. Castor's ideal home is with an active adopter who enjoys outdoor activities and understands the importance of training and structure. A fenced yard would be a huge benefit, giving him a safe place to run, wrestle, and burn off energy. He could make an excellent jogging partner, hiking buddy, or even a candidate for dog sports with the right person. While Castor may require a little extra work, he offers so much in return. He's smart, affectionate, eager to engage with his people, and full of potential. For someone looking for an active companion and willing to invest in continued training, Castor could become an incredible best friend and adventure partner.   ***** One special thing to know about Castor is that he currently lives with fellow foster Poe. Despite both boys having strong personalities and ongoing training needs, they genuinely enjoy each other's company. They play together, spend time together, and have become important parts of each other's daily lives. While we would absolutely love to see them adopted together, we understand that finding the perfect home is most important. Because of that, Castor and Poe are available for separate adoption and we are committed to finding each of them the family that best fits their individual needs. Whether adopted together or apart, both boys deserve loving homes where they can continue to thrive. Until the profile is removed from the public’s view, this dog is considered available for adoption. To apply to adopt from Just Giants Rescue fill out an online. Hi, I’m Poe and I’m ready to find my forever home!  Dog’s Name: Poe Location: Oak Park, IL Date of Birth: 5/26/2023 Gender: Male  Breed: Mastiff Color: Brown Dog's Weight: 80 Gets along with: Dogs?: Not currently Cats?:  Unsure Kids?: Unsure Training: Leash Trained: Walks loose leash Crate Trained: Goes to crate/kennel on command Potty Trained: Indicates a need to potty and doesn’t have indoor accidents Car:  Rides well in car Meet Poe Poe is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with his people and wants nothing more than to protect the things he loves. He is affectionate, intelligent, and full of energy. In the home, Poe is well-mannered, eager to please, and happiest when spending time with his family. He loves attention, enjoys giving kisses, and is always ready for a game of roughhousing, wrestling, or an outdoor adventure. Poe is highly food motivated, potty trained, and knows how to go into his crate on command. He loves car rides, enjoys having a job to do, and possesses all the confidence and awareness that make livestock guardian breeds such devoted companions. We want to be transparent that Poe is not a dog for everyone. He has strong guardian instincts and is reactive to unfamiliar dogs and to people he perceives as suspicious or threatening. On walks, he may react to dogs, strangers who approach too closely, or unexpected sights such as skateboards and motorcycles. He is not currently a candidate for a home with other dogs or cats, and his compatibility with children has not yet been evaluated. Poe is also incredibly athletic and determined. He can break through dog gates and has been known to escape crates if left unattended for long periods. His future family will need to provide appropriate management, supervision, and continued training to help him succeed. The good news is that Poe is young, smart, and eager to work with his people. His foster believes that with consistent training and experienced handling, many of his challenges can be improved. He thrives when given structure, clear expectations, and positive outlets for his energy. Poe's ideal home is with an experienced large guardian breed owner who understands protective instincts and is committed to ongoing training. A securely fenced yard would be a huge benefit, giving him a safe place to run, play, and continue building confidence. He would also make an excellent adventure companion for someone who enjoys hiking, outdoor activities, or dog sports. For the right person, Poe offers something special: unwavering loyalty, deep devotion, and a bond that only a true guardian dog can provide. If you have experience with powerful working breeds and are looking for a dedicated partner who wants to be by your side through life's adventures, Poe may be the dog you've been waiting for. ***** One special thing to know about Poe is that he currently lives with fellow foster Castor. Story
Hi, I’m Ernie and I’m ready to find my forever home!  Dog’s Name: Ernie Location: Elmhurst, IL Date of Birth: 04/10/2021 Gender: Male Breed: Daniff Color: Fawn Dog's Weight: 90 Gets along with: Dogs?: All Dogs  Cats?: Unknown Kids?: Unknown Training: Crate Trained - goes to crate/kennel on command  Potty Trained - indicates need to potty and doesn't have indoor accidents  Car - Rides well in the car Meet Ernie! Ernie is a happy, easygoing boy who has settled comfortably into home life and is ready to find his forever family. He is fully potty trained and has great house manners, making him a wonderful companion right from the start. Ernie absolutely loves being petted and spending time with his people—he’s the kind of dog who just wants to be near his humans and soak up all the affection he can get. Ernie is still working on his leash skills, so walks are a work in progress. He does have a bit of a prey drive—especially when it comes to squirrels—so a secure, fenced-in yard is strongly recommended to give him a safe space to run and explore. He’s also continuing to build his confidence and skills with ongoing obedience training, and he’ll benefit from a family committed to helping him keep learning. Because Ernie is still being introduced to other dogs, we’re learning more about his preferences, but thoughtful, proper introductions will be important. His ideal adopter will be patient, consistent, and ready to guide him as he continues to grow. Ernie could be a great match for someone willing to put in a little training while enjoying all the love and companionship he has to offer. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate dog who will happily be your shadow, Ernie might be your perfect match!
