Story
Meet Oakley, our resident House Pony Oakley came to us when his owner had to move into a nursing home, and we somehow managed to make room for all 134 pounds of him. We suspect Oakley may be part English Mastiff which helps explain both his impressive size and his calm, steady presence. Now let’s talk age. Oakley’s vet records say he is 12 years and 7 months old. His mobility, playfulness, vertical jump, and teeth suggest he’s more in the 9 to 10 range. Oakley believes age is more a suggestion than a fact. Oakley has no mobility issues. He can jump, run, and manage stairs without trouble. He is used to living in a home with carpet. Slippery floors make him uneasy because keeping all four giant paws under him can be tricky on slick surfaces. Area rugs or wall to wall carpeting are his idea of four paw drive and help him feel confident. Our big guy is on a weight loss journey, mostly because he doesn’t have thumbs and therefore cannot open food containers. The good news is he has already lost over 10 pounds and is doing great. His ideal weight is probably about 95 pounds. He has had a full blood panel done, and everything supports continuing his slow, steady progress. Oakley also has about 10 lumps, which we believe are lipomas, they do not slow him down or dampen his spirit. Oakley loves people and attention. He is used to having someone around most of the time. Oakley doesn’t try to climb into laps. He respects both physics and furniture warranties. He does love leaning into hugs and backing up politely for butt scratches. He does well with other dogs and is very respectful of them. When it’s time to relax, Oakley is all about soft, sofa-sized dog beds. The bigger and squishier, the better. He’s also a quiet guy who hardly ever barks, preferring to communicate through meaningful eye contact and gentle leaning. Oakley enjoys wandering around outside and would love a fenced yard where he can patrol, sniff, and enjoy life at a calm, dignified house-pony pace. If you’re looking for a gentle giant with excellent manners who just wants love, rugs, and a very large comfy bed, Oakley is ready to move in. Oakley is housetrained, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm tested. If you’d like to meet Oakley, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org. If you have questions about Oakley you can email rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657. Adopters must live within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA. Indoor homes only. Adoption Fee: $250

Story
Reacher is a 1-year-old male Mastiff mix who was surrendered to us through no fault of his own. He spent the first year of his life in a loving home, but life can change quickly, and his owners had to make the heartbreaking decision to bring him back to the shelter. Now, Reacher is waiting patiently in a foster home until his forever family finds him. Reacher is an absolute lover and cuddler, with lots of puppy still left in him. He does need some time to warm up to new people and may shake until he feels safe, but once he trusts you, his affectionate and gentle nature shines through. He bonds deeply with his people and thrives on companionship. He is fantastic with kids and truly enjoys being part of family life—jumping on the trampoline, playing in the hose, fetch, cuddling, dressing up, and simply being included. Reacher does well with other dogs of all sizes and loves to play. He has shown interest in hamsters and guinea pigs, but does not seem bothered by cats. Reacher is still learning proper leash manners, but walks well without pulling. He loves car rides and rides calmly with his seat belt on. This handsome guy currently weighs around 115 lbs, and while he is large and impressive, his heart is even bigger. We believe he is a Mastiff mix, possibly Cane Corso or Great Dane, and he carries himself with the gentle, affectionate demeanor these breeds are known for. Reacher is very smart and food motivated, especially when fruits and veggies are involved. He rings a bell to let you know when he wants to go outside—and when he’s ready to come back in. He knows basic commands, including “wait” before going out, and is known to mimic what he sees you do (opening doors, baby gates, snack cabinets, etc.). He is fully house trained. Reacher does have some separation anxiety, but it has improved greatly over time. He is not a fan of being kenneled, though it is actively being worked on, as being crate trained helps with transitions—especially when someone new enters the home. Reacher must be an indoor family member. He thrives on closeness, routine, and being part of his people’s daily lives, and would diminish in any other setting. Rehoming Reacher has absolutely nothing to do with him—he is nearly perfect. He is simply looking for the loving, committed home he deserves.
