Story
Meet Sophie — A Gentle, Resilient Young Girl Ready for the Loving Home She Deserves Sophie’s story begins on the side of the road, where she was found with both back legs and her hip broken. Despite everything she had endured, she greeted her rescuers with a soft, hopeful spirit. After surgery, careful rehab, and months of healing, Sophie has blossomed into a sweet, affectionate, active young dog who is now ready for her forever family.  She is a mixed Mastiff, born in 2025 (appx May). Her current family adores her and is grateful they were able to save her, but due to major life changes, they want to ensure Sophie finds a home that can give her the time, attention, and closeness she thrives on. Personality & Temperament Sweet, gentle, and affectionate — she loves being close to her people Dog friendly and enjoys having another pet around Friendly with kids 6–16 Active and playful — fetch is a favorite Shy with new people but warms up with kindness Kisser & cuddleseeker Knows some commands and learns quickly Home Skills Housebroken / litter trained Leash trained Does great freeroaming when left with another dog Needs a fenced yard Separation anxiety when kenneled — barking, pacing, trying to escape Submissive urination used to happen when scared or excited, but she has outgrown this When she first arrived, Sophie showed signs of past mistreatment — including sores on her front legs — and she struggled with being crated during the day. A camera showed she became extremely anxious when confined, likely due to her history. Once allowed to free roam with the family’s Labrador, she never had an accident, never damaged anything, and settled beautifully. The Home She Needs Sophie is looking for a family who treats their dogs like true companions — sleeping in the bedroom, spending most of the day inside with their people, and offering steady affection and reassurance. She thrives in a calm, loving environment where she can feel safe and included. Her ideal home would offer: A fenced yard Another friendly dog or pet companion People who are home often or enjoy having a dog by their side A gentle, patient household that understands her past and celebrates her progress Sophie’s Next Chapter After surviving trauma, healing from major surgery, and learning to trust again, Sophie is ready for a family who will cherish her. She has so much love to give and will be a devoted, gentle companion to the people who welcome her into their hearts.   The suggested adoption donation for Sophie is $415, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Ralph the Derp! Ralph is a huge friendly, enthusiastic, uncoordinated 4-legged energetic goofball! He was rescued from “death row” at a high kill shelter, as a skinny stray with a treatable skin condition. His fur has almost completely grown in & he is now at a healthy weight. This overgrown mastiff/Cane Corso mix pup has no comprehension of his size, leaning into humans for affection or trying to ooze onto laps for cuddles. He is being trained not to jump and not to paw for attention/affection/play because he currently has 85# of mass behind those “congenial” moves. Ralph plays well with dogs of all sizes, but would do best with med-to-larger dogs due to his size & poorly curbed gusto. He hordes toys, taking them all to his chosen dog bed of the day. He likes to carry a special toy “baby” in his mouth when going out in the yard. He does need to be fed in his crate & will guard his empty food bowl from other dogs, unless he is distracted with a toy & led outdoors after meals. He is great on a leash, makes awesome grunty sounds when cuddled, enjoys baths. Ralph will make a great addition to an active family with older children. He is eager to please, food and affection oriented (although a bit stubborn at times), making him an ideal candidate for success with continuation of his training. Please consider adopting the gorgeous big derp into your home. Attributes: In training to avoid jumping/pawing Active family He is neutered, microchipped, had recent cherry eye repair and up to date on all vaccines and preventions. Local adoption fee is $200(in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Kodak is a gentle, affectionate 5-year-old Mastiff × Great Dane mix with a calm, loving presence and the sweetest giant-dog personality. He enjoys sunshine, relaxed outdoor time, and close company. Kodak is bonded with Scarlet and does best when adopted with his buddy. Personality and behavior • Temperament: Gentle, loyal, affectionate • Energy: Low to moderate — prefers leisurely walks, lounging in the sun, and calm companionship • Social needs: Friendly with people; enjoys being near his family and benefits from steady, patient handling • Bonded pair: Closely bonded to Scarlet; happiest when adopted together Ideal home • A home that can accommodate a large, calm dog with space to stretch out • Someone who enjoys relaxed outdoor time and can include Kodak in family life rather than leaving him alone for long periods • Best adopted together with Scarlet so both dogs keep their bond and confidence Care notes • Gentle, consistent handling and positive reinforcement work best • Regular low-impact exercise (walks, shaded yard time) and comfortable resting space are important
