Story
Gentle Giant English Mastiff, 4 years old - sweet and cuddly.  Seeking adult/teen home with a strong owner who can handle his size and love him as much as his current family. Meet Apollo, a purebred English Mastiff looking for his forever home.  He is a very sweet, gentle-hearted boy who truly loves his people, but his size and clumsineess make him a poor fit for a home with small children.  A friendly "hello" from Apollo can easily knock a toddler or younger kid over.  He needs a home with adults or older kids (age 12+). Apollo's Personality and Daily Habits Calm and protective Would prefer not to share his toys or meals Stranger friendly Apollo is a big cuddler and a bit of a homebody.  He is not a high-energy dog: one walk a day is plenty for him.  The rest of the time, he is happiest sitting on your feet while you work or lounging on his bed nearby.  He'll get up occasionally to bop around outside or play with a toy, but he can be a little lazy and sometimes needs a gentle nudge to get moving. TRAINING Apollo has been professionally trained at All Dogs Unleashed and had a refresher course May 28th.  He walks fairly well and has good manners overall.  He is house trained and does not bark much.  Due to his size and strength, he does require a physically strong person to handle him!!!  On rare occasions, he may get excited if he sees a person or another dog and can try to take off.  His future owner needs to be comfortable handling a very strong dog. General Things to Know about APOLLO He is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations and has never had any serious health problems. As a giant breed, he does eat a lot and is more expensive to care for than a smaller dog.  His new family should be prepared for the financial commitment  that comes with a large Mastiff.  All of the AKC papers will be provided. THE PERFECT HOME Someone who will love and cherish him Someone with experience with large breed dogs and has the physical strength to manage a Mastiff Older kids or teenagers only (age 12+) Fenced, secure yard A space for Apollo to eat his meals where he feels safe Someone who will keep an eye on the front door when open so he won't run out A Note from Apollo's Current Person "Because I love Apollo and want the best for him, I'm willing to help his new family with costs.  I am happy to contribute toward his care, such as paying for a year of flea/tick and heartworm prevention.  I will also donate $150 to Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue in connection with his adoption.  This decision is incredibly hard for me, but with his size and young children, it's the best decision for Apollo.  My only goal is to find Apollo a wonderful, stable, forever home with people who can love him the way I do and give him the life he deserves."   The suggested adoption donation for Apollo is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Adoptions for Apollo are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that he can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainers.       Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Hi, I'm Freya! I'm a sweet mama and came with my 9 puppies. I'm a very good girl. I'm said to have had a few litters in the past and I'm ready to put motherhood behind me and have a little time for myself. Won't you spend it with me? If you're interested in adopting me, please fill out an application at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt. You can also reserve an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have visits scheduled, so appointments help ensure I’ll be available. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, and we welcome adopters from any state. We have access to a transport to Aurora, CO. Other out of state adopters either travel to Missouri or arrange & pay for air transport. Virtual meet and greets are available on the appointment request. ##2755149##

TABITHA AND MARGO Meet our beautiful purebred Mastiff siblings, a bonded sister pair seeking a special forever home together. At 2½ years old, they are loyal, intelligent, affectionate, and true to the Mastiff breed in both devotion and protectiveness. They can be cautious with strangers at first, but once comfortable, they are loving and deeply loyal companions. An owner with large breed experience is preferred. They would do best in a quieter home with a large yard wiith a privacy fencel.  Because of their size, it is recommended no children under 10.  These are truly lovely dogs looking for a calm, stable home committed to keeping this bonded pair together. Dogs have been professionally obedience trained, are potty trained, and very well mannered in the home.   The suggested adoption donation for both Tabitha and Margo is $750, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Story
Kodak is a gentle, affectionate 6-year-old Mastiff × Great Dane mix with a calm, loving presence and the sweetest giant-dog personality. He enjoys sunshine, relaxed outdoor time, and close company. Kodak is bonded with Scarlet and does best when adopted with his buddy. Personality and behavior • Temperament: Gentle, loyal, affectionate • Energy: Low to moderate — prefers leisurely walks, lounging in the sun, and calm companionship • Social needs: Friendly with people; enjoys being near his family and benefits from steady, patient handling • Bonded pair: Closely bonded to Scarlet; happiest when adopted together Ideal home • A home that can accommodate a large, calm dog with space to stretch out • Someone who enjoys relaxed outdoor time and can include Kodak in family life rather than leaving him alone for long periods • Best adopted together with Scarlet so both dogs keep their bond and confidence Care notes • Gentle, consistent handling and positive reinforcement work best • Regular low-impact exercise (walks, shaded yard time) and comfortable resting space are important
