Zoreo - A Friendly Boerboel In Need Of A Home Age: 7 Years Sex: Male Size: Large Good With Dogs: Yes Good With Cats: No Good With Children: Potentially Older Children Come meet Zoreo. This friendly Boerboel (South African Mastiff) is just waiting to make some new active friends. As you can see from his pictures, this big boy is athletic, cheerful and handsome. Zoreo had a rough 2022. His prior owner was on tough times, losing his home and needing a rescue that could take good care of such a large dog like Zoreo. We love the origin of Zoreo’s name. His original owner’s sisters cat was named Oreo and he just added the “Z” to come up with Zoreo. And let us tell you, Zoreo likes his Oreo’s. And just about anything food related. Zoreo is a chow hound and will certainly sit, stay and come for food. Some other great qualities about Zoreo, he is house trained, is comfortable in a crate, pays no attention to other dogs and as we mentioned quite athletic. Zoreo is about 105-110 pounds, so yes he is a big boy. He is very strong, but will respond to corrections. He loves to go for a “trot.” We can imagine him taking a leisurely 5 mile trot along the Savannah in Africa plains. He was briefly in a foster home and did great with the owners and their teenage son. While he is relatively chill around other animals, he is a bit too much around cats. If you are athletic, and looking for a jogging or hiking buddy, and just want a cool new best friend, Zoreo is the dog for you. You might remember King from our April 25th post when he was left abandoned in Milltown with a bag of treats. Just wanted to check in and update about his progress. King is just 10 months old and has already been through multiple owners. It's clear none of them put much love into him. We are currently working on some allergy issues he's having but are hopeful it will be fully resolved shortly with a change of diet and meds. He accepts his ear meds in exchange for a treat which seems pretty fair. King is always looking to his handler for direction and seems confused on how to dog. The minute he gets into play or the zoomies he stops and looks as if he's waiting to be corrected. Well not here! We encourage him to be his goofy puppy self any chance he gets while also giving him guidance. He's learning that jumping on tables is a no-no but trusting new faces is a big YES! His extra wrinkles and coloring all point to a Mastiff mix. Come on by and meet King! He really needs experience meeting new people and would benefit from visitors. He will be formally tested with other dogs this week. We believe living with cats is not an option for King. She’s very friendly and always has a huge smile on her face! She understands commands like “sit”, “stay”, “food” (when its time to eat) and “come here girl!” both in English and in American Sign language. She is incredibly smart and a fast learner! My name is TJ and I came very close to not being here today because people kept handing me off and one of the people who took me home got in trouble at her apartment complex and she took me to a shelter waited outside of the shelter to turn me in.  I had a skin issue at the time and because of my size and the skin condition, I would have truly been euthanized.  But Critter Cavalry Rescue had me dropped off at their vet and they immediately took care of me and my skin condition and got me neutered.  I am the nicest Mastiff boy and I am 3 years old and weigh 85 pounds.  Everyone says I am a sweetheart and so kind and nice with everyone and most all other dogs not bigger than him.  NO CATS.  I love people and I love life!   I really want to have a family to take me home and let me sleep at the foot of their bed in a big dog bed and who will take him for adventure walks and hikes too!  If you want a gentle giant boy to love and who will love you back with everything in his soul…. Theodore  is with our partner rescue in Louisiana but hoping to come to NJ on our next transport. Wag On Inn Rescue offers a foster-to-adopt trial for our dogs waiting in Louisiana. Theodore's foster mom says:   I am very sweet and love my people, and really want to be where they are! I am very gentle when it comes to taking treats or food, but sometimes when I start running, I don't look out for where I am going! Sorry, I just get really excited! I am able to sleep in my crate at night, but I still have a lot of energy and don't want to be in there for too long! I am not sure how I feel about cats yet.
