He found his way into a TX shelter as a stray dog and when no owner came foward to claim him, he was transferred to GPMR for rehab. This boy was absolutely emaciated when he arrived at the shelter. He was only 88 lbs when he arrived and he's already up to about 125! When Gus came to us, he had caught an URI but that's cleared up. He is good with the other dogs in the home. Cats are unknown. We know he'll grab a chicken if given the chance but did drop when told to :) Due to Gus poor health, it will be a while before he's ready for adoption. He did test positive for heartworms and we've started him on treatment.  Check back for more updates! This sweet boy found himself in a shelter near Houston TX. When no owner was located or came forward, he was transferred to GPMR. Luke is living the best life in his new foster home! His foster mom says sometimes he is so cute that it makes her eyes water. But his salty face and droopy jowls really do work in his favor. He might look old, but  he's actually only a little bit over 4yrs old. He appears to have lived a hard live previously and his body shows it. So, please know that he's in his absolute prime despite the greys! He doesn't dig or destroy anything. He is fed separately but that’s because our homes takes the safest measures when they are not the only furry one around here. When his foster mom has taken food, or my bones just to safely “test” – it didn’t phase him one bit. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Luke is wonderfully housetrained! He enjoys canine companions, but doesn't quite play, although watching others play make him happy. He wiggles his booty and wags his tail just being happy that my furry friends are happy. He really thinks he wants to play, but still needs to gain some pounds and TLC with my body. My foster mom has been doing her best with helping get all the foods and supplements. So maybe in the future, he may be ready to do some zooms. He's getting used to his foster cat sibling, at first he would get excited when he saw her, but now he just lays down after he says hello! Luke know sit and shake like the best boy! He is a quiet boy, but in typical Mastiff fashion, sometimes he likes to alert the family of something he sees or hears, but that’s it.Prepare yourself with the cuteness. Luke always has a stuffy toy in his mouth when someone greets him OR if he is just so happy. He will go grab one – sometimes even two! – to parade around with because he is just SO happy to be loved. He even brings them to his vet visits. One little thing to keep in mind, like most of the dogs that are found as a stray down south, he is heartworm positive (HW+). BUT we have already started treatment, and he takes his medicine like an absolute champ. So if he sounds like a good fella that would fit into your home, please reach out to our rescue, ask any questions, and apply online. He is so ready and deserving of FINALLY having a loving home. Luke is being fostered near Houston, TX.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!April 16, 2024, 2:31 pm

She is a senior girl who originally came into GPMR in May of 2022. She was a stray who was taken to the Dallas TX shelter and when no owner came to claim her, she was transferred to GPMR. She was quite thin when she arrived and we got all of her veterinary needs attended to. Piper ended up being adopted by her foster mom. Unfortunatley due to situations that had nothing to do with Piper, she had to be returned to the rescue in Feb 2024. Piper is an older girl, we estimate her at about 10 years old. However she is quite spry and does not show any signs of arthritis or joint issues. She loves to run around the yard for sure! Piper lived with a small dog in her previous home but does not like to interact with the Mastiff in her foster home. She largely just avoids him. So a home with small dogs who aren't going to pester her to play would be the best match for her. She is afraid of the cat and largely avoids him! Piper has been living with kids ages 5 and up and she seems to really love children. Her whole face and body just lights up when she sees them. Unfortunately she's a little on the heavy side so we have her on a diet. She had a vet visit lumps, they all were benign cysts and she had 2 large ones on her tail. Unfortunately due to the location on the tail it had to be amputed. So now she has a little nub of a tail that wiggles when she gets excited! Her bloodwork was all good except for a low thyroid so she started meds for that.Due to her age, Piper's adoption fee is waived! Our goal is to find her a forever retirement home.Piper is being fostered in Guthrie, OKVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!April 16, 2024, 2:31 pm

This sweet girl lost her family when they moved and were not able to bring her. She stayed with her owner's friends until they found a safe place for her with GPMR. She was born in December 2022.Sushi is a sweetie! She was so excited to meet her fosters Bully mix, that she was a bit much at first. After some decompression time, they’re now best buds and play all the time! Sushi also does well at reading and responding to cues when playing, or gently correcting if it’s too rough. Sushi is a bit unsure around new people, but has not shown aggression, She retreats to her kennel or to her fosters upon meeting someone new. This hopefully will get better in time but in case, she would do best in a home that doesn't constantly have visitors coming and going. She is crate trained and sleeps in her kennel at night with no issue, and is trusted inside with free roam. Sushi has a high prey drive and goes after rabbits outside and tries to chase cars when they pass (she is behind the chainlink fence so she can't get to them but can see them), so she definitely needs supervision outside. A securely fenced yard is a must for her. She likely would not do well with cats or tiny/small breed dogs given her prey drive. She is a heavy chewer but has not been destructive, she just needs age and size appropriate toys. Sushi is good with her fosters 2 kids, ages 5 years and 7 months. She is big and goofy but understands being gentle around them. She is food motivated and that has helped in crate training her. Sushi can shake and sit and is very smart. She is housebroken and has had no accidents. They are working on some manners related to counter-surfing - but again, she's food motivated so that's to be expected. Sushi loves to snuggle! She does need play/exercise time but she usually plays for about 20-30 minutes then rests for a couple of hours, so even being young and energetic, she's pretty chill for a puppy. True to the breed, she can be stubborn. They’re working on recall with her and she's consistently responsive to the foster Dad, but a bit more stubborn with her foster Mom, though she is improving. With a little patience and recognition of her age and traits that are typical for the breed, she'll be a wonderful companion to the family who adopts her. Overall, she really is a sweetheart and a great dog! Sushi is being fostered in Conway, AR.
