You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.    PLEASE NOTE: GPMR communicates primarily by email.  If you have any questions regarding one of our Mastiffs, please read their bio and if you still have questions- drop us an email at info@greatplainsmastiffrescue.org .  If you have questions about our adoption procedures, please go to our Pages of Interest on the left hand column under 'Adoption Info.'  We answer email inquiries almost immediately-usually always within a few hours and phone calls are returned with 24-36 hours.    GPMR does not have a shelter. All of our dogs are kept in loving foster homes. We must have a completed adoption application on file before meeting any of our mastiffs.    GPMR adopts to the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and parts of Colorado.  !!!Any mastiffs being adopted out of the state of Oklahoma require a health certificate to be paid for by the adopter!!!       Meet Dwayne Johnson! This boy was rescued by a shelter in TX from a neglect situation. He was living in a garage with another dog and not being cared for. The shelter saved them and then they came to GPMR! He is estimated at two years old and has the energy of a young dog. He loves to leap and run around the yard showing off his goofy and fun side. He is new to house training and doing great! It’s been a long time since his last accident but still needs some guidance and encouragement on where to do his business outside.Roaming the house is no problem but he considers food on the counters fair game. We are careful to keep anything edible well out of his reach. Playing with his foster brother is his favorite thing to do! Mr. Johnson loves to play chase and tug-of-war or just lay around. He does well around cats, dogs and older humans. He hasn’t spent time around little ones yet, so a home with older kids or not kids would be the best fit for him. He is very affectionate and loving, wanting to be by your side all the time. It's hard to resist those puppy eyes!He doesn’t do well when separated from his people in the home. He’ll bark to let you know that he wants to be near you. With the in-home cameras, we’ve confirmed that he’s fine home alone while his foster parents work during the day. However we'd prefer to find him a home where someone is around part of the day.Mr. Johnson is a loving and healthy young dog looking for a family to play with and love. He came to us from a shelter in TX as part of a neglect case. He was living locked up in a garage and not being cared for. The shelter saved them and then transferred to GPMR.Remus is what we call a 'fluffy' Mastiff. This is a recessive gene in Mastiffs that produces this longer coat and it's not something we see very often in rescue. He is so handsome!Remus is great with dogs of all sizes and energy levels - for small dogs/puppies he will lay on the floor to play. He’s shown internet in the cats in his foster home but has not tried to chase them. He does great with rodents in cages but he does become a little too interested when they are not caged. He has yet to meet a person who isn’t automatically his new best friend - especially if treats are involved! He is a very goofy outgoing boy who would love to have another dog friend to play with! Remus does occasionally spook at loud noises/fast movement but has improved greatly with this. We do recommend he is in a home with no kids or older children. He LOVES the 8yr old boy in his foster home and is so gentle and loving with him. We are working on basic training; he has not mastered heeling but does walk great on leash otherwise.We noticed Remus have a bit of an odd walk/run so we had Xrays done and he was diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia in his right hip. The vet said it is not something that requires any surgery but he does need to stay on joint supplements or a joint diet and keeping him lean is important. He does not let this slow him down or bother him though! He loves to romp and play with other dogs and plays fetch as long as you don’t like having the ball back immediately! Remus is heartworm negative and ready for adoption!Remus is being fostered near St. Louis, MO.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!June 3, 2023, 12:17 am
