Story
Meet Panko!Panko is awkward. It's a green flag, honestly, because who doesn't love an awkward little guy? He looks like someone took a dachshund's head and put it on a chihuahua's body. It's amazing. We love him. He's the cutest.Panko is about two years old and just under 12lbs. He's a shy guy but NOT fearful - he's ready and willing to meet new people, he's just a little nervous about it at first and sets himself to vibrate mode (it's the chihuahua in him). Once he warms up to someone (which doesn't take very long at all), he's content to hang out and soak up some attention. He's pretty good on a leash and doesn't really pull much, if at all, but he is prone to pancaking and becoming one with the floor when he gets nervous. The quickest way to get him to perk up? Offer him a plush toy or a tennis ball and he'll start to come out of his shell and start to show a tiiiiiiny bit of the goober that we know exists in there somewhere.Panko does well with other dogs but really has no interest in trying to be friends with dogs who are a lot bouncier than he is. He'll just sit there and stare off into the distance until the other dog loses interest and leaves him alone. With dogs that are more his speed, he's happy to make friends and exchange sniffs. He would be fine with cats - he has no desire to be anywhere near an unhappy cat and will skedaddle the second one starts revving up. Kids 12+ just because he is on the shy side. Story
Meet Pip!Pip is a good boy who is just overwhelmed by the world. He's still trying to figure out his place in it which can be difficult when you're in a brand new environment surrounded by unfamiliar people and other animals. There are a lot of new sounds and smells and when you're already a timid guy, it can be a lot.Pip is a young guy at about 18mo. We genuinely have no idea what breeds went into making this guy. He's about 26lbs and he is full grown - he's like a tall dachshund. There is also probably some hound in there as well. He is VERY barky at first so apartments/shared walls may not be the best environment for him.Pip will need someone patient. He so desperately wants to be loved but he lacks the confidence and the security to actively seek it out. As previously mentioned, he will BARK HIS HEAD OFF but then just suddenly sit next to you quietly. Once he's comfortable with you and once he trusts you, he is a big goof - he's eager to jump up on you and he's eager to show off his "sit"! He's actually pretty good on a leash, loves plush toys and tennis balls, and takes treats very gently - we love a boy with manners. He does do well with other dogs and a more confident, outgoing dog may help him build up some confidence of his own. Right now, he is absolutely terrified of cats - we will retest him when he's settled in a bit more to see if that sticks. We would prefer a home without kids or with older kids - he is nervous and sudden, quick movements can make him flinchy and jumpy. If you think you can be a safe place for Pip to build his confidence and REALLY bloom into the dog we know he can be, visit foreverpaws.com and click adopt to download our application. Once complete, you can email it to us at fpas1@foreverpaws.com.
