Story
Lucy Sissy Henson is currently in RI and looking for a 'furever' home!    Lucy Sissy is very shy and is a BITE risk.  She will need a patient and understanding adopter to give her a lot time and space to warm up.  She has never known the love of humans, used by a breeder then dumped in a shelter, people are very scary.   Lucy will also require a secured fully fenced yard. If you are interested in adopting this dog please complete the adoption application at www.rhodehomerescue.org/adoption-form to become a pre-approved adopter.   If you were already approved through Rhode Home Rescue within the last 6 months, contact us today! Be sure to check our Facebook page "Rhode Home Rescue" for details on upcoming events and other announcements.January 16, 2026, 2:26 pm

FENCED YARD REQUIRED Adoption Donation   $ 399   Located:  RI (Transportation costs included to the Northeast , plz ask for more details ) Age: 10 mos. old      Meet Leo!   Leo is a 10-month-old Dachshund/Hound mix with the cutest little face and the biggest personality! This silly boy is full of energy, curiosity, and love — basically a furry toddler who keeps life exciting.  Leo would   love   a fenced-in yard where he can zoom around and explore, and he’d be thrilled to have another playful dog (or a few!) to wrestle and romp with. He’s all about fun, cuddles, and a little bit of mischief — you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on your shoes, because this charming “devil child” likes to test his limits in the most adorable way.  No condo or apartment living for this boy as he is very vocal.  Leo is working with a trainer on stranger danger. He becomes vocal and will retreat.  The trainer feels he is best suited for an older, energetic retired or work from home couple.     With his goofy grin and happy heart, Leo will bring laughter and love to any family lucky enough to call him theirs.     *** As part of the adoption donation this pup will participate in FOA's spay/neuter program or other programs available through FOHA. All puppies will have age appropriate vaccinations.  All small Pups need to be adopted by by children old enough to understand how to be respectful and gentle in handling a small young pup. ***     If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website   www.fohari.org and email my foster parent for more information: save4pawz@gmail.com Please verify the location and readiness of this dog with us.  Because we save lives from various locations through out the United States, some dogs may not be in New England yet, nor ready for immediate adoption.       Our adoption application can be found here: https://fohari.org/application/  Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in. ALL animals are in foster homes as we do NOT have a  shelter where you can visit. Some animals are in foster care in New England, and some are located in other states. If the initials following the animals name are a state, then that is the state where the animal is located. If initials are not a state, then those are the initials of the foster home outside of New England and you will not be able to meet the animal ahead of time. Complete our online application You will be contacted by phone or email by the foster parent  or a member of our adoption team and will have the opportunity to find out more about the animal, and ask any questions that you have to ensure the animal is a good fit for your household. If the animal is local, you can meet the animal, but you would not be able to take the dog home until you are approved to adopt.  From our end, we will check references and schedule a home visit.  If you live in an apartment, or a condo, we will need to verify permission to own the animal from your landlord or condo board. Please let your vet’s office and references know we will be contacting them. If your  references are positive, we will schedule a home visit by a volunteer. Please try to accommodate the home visit volunteer as most  have busy schedules. Delays in the visit will result in a delay in the adoption. Once you are approved, you will receive an e-mail with your  adoption contract attached. This e-mail will have details about pick up, the balance of the adoption fee that is owed, etc. Please email your signed & witnessed contract and pay your adoption fee in full, and for any animals located out of state, you will be contacted for details about transport to New England. Once you have paid your adoption fee in full and sent back your contract, you can make arrangement to pick up your animal from the foster home or from transport depending on where the animal is located. Please bring a harness, collar, ID tag and leash when you are picking up the dog unless otherwise instructed by the foster parent. Story
Adoption Donation   $ 299 Located:  RI   Age: approx    11 years old Weight: 14  lbs.   Meet Babs. This gorgeous senior girl came to us from a local shelter after she was surrendered by an owner who could no longer take care of her.  Babs is a sweet girl who does well with structure and a routine. She is not a big fan of car rides but if she's elevated in the car so she can see does better. Babs does potty outside, but if you miss her cues she will potty on pee pads. She's had some previous back issues so we'd like to see her go into a one level home so she doesn't have to deal with alot of stairs at this point in her life. Babs ideal home would be a quieter, one-level home with a fenced yard and someone home a good part of the time as she does have some anxiety.  No kids for her, they make her nervous. Another small dog or cat would be fine.  She loves finding a sunny window to sit by in the morning and being close to her people.    If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application on our website  www.fohari.org  and email my foster parent for more information:  bethmanton@ymail.com  Please verify the location and readiness of this dog with us.  Because we save lives from various locations through out the United States, some dogs may not be in New England yet, nor ready for immediate adoption.   Our adoption application can be found here: https://fohari.org/application/  Our Adoption Process:   Go to our website and select the animal you are interested in. Story
Meet Luca and his brother Levi — two nub-tailed nuggets with legs stubby enough and coats long enough that they just might be mistaken for blonde corgis.  But these 2- to 3-month-old brothers are probably a mix of breeds. They were found wandering in rural Alabama with their mama — who weighs about 20 lbs and looks like a rat terrier/dachshund mix.  The family was dumped outside right before the recent freeze, and sadly, the pups were likely never shown any human affection prior to coming to rescue. Levi and Luca were very shy when they arrived at their foster home. They immediately loved the other dogs, but it took a few days to learn to trust the humans.  Levi was the first to warm up, but Luca was a close second. Luca now loves climbing in his foster mom’s lap while brother Levi is playing with the older dogs. Luca is the slightly smaller brother and an absolute sweetheart who often chooses to be with his human over playtime. The boys have gone from hiding in their own puppy pile to napping fully splayed out on their backs and waiting for belly rubs.  Luca will be a great small to medium size when fully grown. Our guess would be anywhere from 25 to 40 lbs.  He’s doing great with potty training and absolutely loves his crate.  We would love to find Luca a forever home with a confident, friendly dog that could set a good example and be a best friend, but we’re open to human-only homes if the humans are willing to give Luca a little time to warm up. We don’t think it’ll take long! If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!
