Story
Hi world! Abe here to tell you all the cool things about myself so I can find my equally cool family! I used to be a shy and nervous boy but the dog I live with, Jax, and my foster mom, the human, have helped teach me how to run and explore and not be so afraid. I've learned how to love car rides, breweries, most humans and especially new dogs! I'm loving going on walks, smelling all the new smells and learning that new adventures can also be exciting. Although I'm still figuring out what it means to be on a leash because I also love to run!
My absolute favorite things are playing tug-o-war, perusing the toy box for the next best toy to play with, wrestling with Jax and when I get treats! Running around the yard and sunbathing are close seconds. One of my favorite resting spots is a dog bed under the sofa where it's nice and cool and dark so I can get the best puppy beauty naps (this is also my safe space if I get a little nervous because the world is really big sometimes).
The human says I'm super treat motivated and Im like DUH! I figured out how to sit, what it means to come and I'm working on down. She also gives me treats every time I go potty outside so I'm figuring out that's probably where I should be doing my business. Pooping is never fun in the house because that's gross but I'm still figuring out how to hold my tinkles.
Ever since my brother got adopted, I've preferred being near Jax or the human so I've gotten free rein of the house for the past month without a crate or pen (Shes a sucker for my cute face;). The human is very impressed that I sleep through the night (next to Jax on the bed of course) and that the house isn't a disaster when she comes home, which is odd because she knows how much I love my naps and toys!
Anyway, I'm looking for a home with lots of love, some patience and it'd be cool if there was another dog because I think I like dogs more than I like humans. Also, a home with lots of toys and treats please! Hope to meet you soon! -Abe out
A word from the human: Abe's most definitely a spunky guy with lots of personality and still a little caution. He's a little bit sweet and a little bit spicy but very funny. He's cute and tiny but this boy does not care for being picked up as he just wants to go go go! He's never been much for snuggles, (and I'm a huge dog snuggler!) But maybe that's something he'll grow into. He does tend to get the night zoomies and likes to be mouthy when he plays. We've been working on the mouthiness a lot so he doesn't break skin or annoy Jax... But I think using his mouth to get dogs to play is probably something that will stick (video attached). Additionally, he is a bit of a delicate soul - so I believe positive reinforcement will be the best way to train him, otherwise its likely he will shut down. When he is in situations that he is unsure of, worried or scared of, he likes to hide and gets a little shaky. But as Abe noted, we have been working very hard on this and he has come so far! You may have to work through this a little more (recently it was figuring out how to go potty in the rain) but he is so smart and with the right love and encouragement he figures it out pretty fast. This is where it has helped to have another dog share space with him but in the right situation is not required.
Abe is such a unique and special boy, Ive never fostered a pup quite like him and he deserves an absolutely wonderful home. Let us know if youd like to meet this cutie!
Abe is estimated to be 4.5 months old and 13 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested.
If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.
We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events!
Please note: All dogs/puppies will not be at every event, and some may find their home prior to the event. If you are interested in a specific animal, please check our Facebook page for confirmed attendance the morning of the event: https://www.facebook.com/safehandsrescue/
You do not need to have a Facebook account to check the Safe Hands Facebook page for attendance. We hope to see you at an upcoming Meet & Greet!
