Story
Sweet Pete—lovingly called Sweets—will be 3 years old in March, and he’s quietly hoping his next home will be the one where he finally feels safe enough to exhale. This 12-pound, neutered, crate-trained little guy came to CCR not because he isn’t loved, but because he needs more security, consistency, and reassurance than he’s had before. What he wants most is a calm, stable home and a person who will be his. Once Sweet Pete trusts you, he gives his whole heart. He lives for cuddles, snuggling close, and simply being near his person after a good round of outdoor play. He enjoys exercise and then happily settles in, content just to hang out and be loved. He’s also a wonderful travel companion—great on short trips and long rides alike—and never turns down a pup cup along the way. Sweet Pete will alert bark at unfamiliar noises or strangers, but he isn’t a constant yapper. He walks nicely on a leash and would benefit from continued work on recall. He’s spent lots of time at doggy daycare and enjoys playful interactions with dogs his own size. He hasn’t been around cats yet, so a cat-free home or careful introductions would be best. Because of his past, Sweet Pete can be anxious around men and small children, and those situations can feel overwhelming for him. He would truly thrive in a quieter, adult-only home—ideally with someone who is home often—where patience, routine, and kindness help him continue to build confidence. When he feels safe and happy, his joy bursts out in the form of full-speed zoomies and impressive jumps that show off his athletic little body and happy heart. Sweet Pete is up to date on vaccinations and ready for a fresh start. He’s not asking for much—just a gentle, understanding home where love is steady and trust can grow. In return, he’ll offer deep devotion, endless affection, and the kind of bond that makes all the waiting worth it.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue is you are interested.  Let us know where you live!  We are in Tennessee but we adopt outside the state as well and transport.   Contact us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 21, 2025, 3:14 pm

Story
Our little Apple 🍎 is searching for a teacher 🧑‍🏫 Literally actually, this scared stray was hanging around a school and approached a teacher for guidance. She is very nervous and defensive at first meeting new people, and looks like a ferocious little watchdog, but is desperate to connect and bond and warms up quickly. She looks like she recently had puppies sadly, and we think about 3-4 years old, under 15lbs full grown. We aren’t quite sure of her breed- maybe chihuahua, min pin, doxie, Italian greyhound… she looks a bit like a patterdale terrier. Or a mini black lab puppy 🤷‍♀️ 😝 She’s been getting along with other small dogs in foster and a lovable lapdog once she trusts. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Apple 🍎 in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Gimli! This handsome min pin was being given away dangerously “free to good home” online in desperate need of immediate medical care. He had a large painful tumor that was ulcerated and oozing, and making it hard for him to use his back leg. He isn’t even that old- maybe 7-8- and otherwise in great shape and full of life, with no sign of cancer spread. Because of the generosity of our community, we were able to get him a full medical work up and immediate surgery at Country Willow Veterinary Hospital to remove that mass which had been left to grow for quite a while. He’s healed up nicely and is a lovable cuddly guy with his foster mom, gets along with other dogs and has learned not to chase cats. He does have that protective Min Pin streak that they often have, and tends to be a one-person dog once he bonds and devotes his life to keeping you safe. While his mass was an aggressive cancer, it was removed just in time before it had a chance to spread or get even larger where it wasn’t removable. So he has a pretty good prognosis without any further treatment although will have to be monitored for regrowth or spread in the future. Gimli has fully healed and is ready for a home- email njwoof@cs.com if you need this handsome loyal min pin in your life.
