Story
Meet Eli!  This handsome guy was rescued along with his daughter, Bella, from the working life of dogs that belonged to a breeder.  To this man all the dogs were simply property.  Eli spent 10 years living life in a crate only being handled when he was 'needed'.  You would never know this sweet boy merely existed.  He shows none of the scars you would expect him to have.  Eli is a very sweet and loving southern gentleman who is slowly learning to live life as a pet.  He is adjusting to fresh air and grass.  Both of which were a truly new experience for him.  He began going outside only because he wanted to stay near his foster mom.  Now he happily walks around the yard and joins Bella and his other foster brothers and sisters for a little sunshine.  Eli is a very smart boy and is already housebroken.  He is also doing a great job walking on a leash.  Eli's favorite place is either in the chair curled up or louging on the back of the chair.  He is able to see everything from that perch.  Eli is ready to find his forever home.  He has plenty of years let to enjoy the good things that life has to offer.  He is looking for a quiet home full of patience and understanding.  He needs a family that will be there for him but allow him to adjust and blossom and his own pace.  You won't be sorry if you add this gentleman to your family.  To be considered for his forever family and to request an application. please contact Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Eli is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)  No small children.  October 13, 2025, 5:11 pm

Story
Beautiful Bella and her dad, Eli, were rescued from lives as working dogs for a breeder who treated them as property. Poor Bella had been bred so many times during her eight years of life that her insides were severely swollen and infected. Critter Cavalry arrived just in time to save her from a painful death.  Bella is now happy and healthy as she slowly adjusts to life as a pet. She is a very smart girl who just wants to be near you. While she is not needy, she is keenly aware of where her foster mom is and likes to see her. Bella has learned to use the doggie door and is now housebroken. This process was easy for her because she follows her foster mom everywhere.  The most challenging hurdle Bella has faced so far has been discovering the freedom of the outdoors, along with the sensation of soft grass beneath her feet, which felt strange at first compared to the concrete she was used to. Learning to sleep with her foster mom was extremely easy for her; she thrives on the closeness and warmth. Bella will be a loyal companion for the right family. She needs a quiet, loving home where she feels safe and is treated with patience and understanding. At eight years old, Bella is not old for a poodle—she has a lot of life left to live and much untapped love waiting to be shared with her new family. (Please note: no small children.) If you are interested in considering Bella as a permanent member of your family and would like to request an application, please contact Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com. An approved application and adoption fee are required. Bella is currently in Tennessee but can be transported north upon adoption.November 7, 2025, 4:19 pm

Story
When Arnie was rescued, he was a stray matted up mess. He's had a grooming since then and now he looks like a whole new dog! Arnie is dog and cat friendly - he loves to cuddle with people if you'll let him plus he makes a perfect lap dog for the right person! Arnie is 1-2 years old and weighs only 8 pounds. He loves exploring the great outdoors (his yard) - Arnie walks well on a leash and he's a good boy who comes when he's called.  If you'd like to meet Arnie when he arrives in NJ, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for him by name, ARNIE NJ!November 15, 2025, 3:22 pm

Story
Meet Peggie — The Pocket-Sized Tripod Queen (Yes, she’s got three legs, one attitude, and endless love to give.) If you’ve ever wished for a dog who’s equal parts cuddlebug, comedian, and tiny warrior princess, congratulations — your soulmate is here. Peggie is a sweet, lovable little nugget who’s still learning how to navigate the world on three legs… and tbh, she’s doing it with more grace than most of us on a Monday. Three legs, zero limitations (okay, maybe one or two)  Peggie lost a front paw, so she’s figuring out how to balance, jump, and do life in general. She can launch herself into a recliner like an Olympian… but exiting? Let’s just say gravity wins. She mostly hops along holding her little stump up like a tiny princess requesting to be carried — which, honestly, is her preferred lifestyle. She tires easily, so she currently rides in a stroller like the diva she is. She didn’t like it at first, but now she’s basically tolerating her chauffeur service. Foodie in training Peggie needs to gain weight, so she eats three small meals a day and thinks that’s a pretty sweet deal. Fair warning: she may side-eye or snap at another dog her size if they try to steal her snacks or her human’s attention. She’s learning — but like any girl on a diet, she’s not sharing. Potty training? She’s 90% there! Peggie doesn’t ask to go out, so she’ll need someone who sends her out on a schedule. She’s smart and catches on fast — she’s already learning “come,” “pee,” “poop,” and “no,” because yes, she’s that brilliant. World-class cuddler, lap hog, professional snuggler, Peggie is happiest when: she is in your lap she is about to be in your lap she is thinking about being in your lap If you sit, she will claim you. If she can’t? She’ll settle for the dog bed next to you… but she won’t be happy about it. Also, that new dog bed? She is actively destroying it. It’s her process. Don’t ask questions. Other dogs & cats She’s learning to coexist with dogs and is now best friends with Callie, her foster sister. She may snap at dogs over food or lap time — nothing dramatic. Just a “hey, back off, that’s MY person” kind of vibe. Indoor cats are unknown, but she is interested in the barn cats. Probably for their food. Respect. Stranger danger… kinda Peggie barks ferociously at people entering the house — even people she knows. She sounds like she’s about to file a police report, but there’s zero bite behind that bark. As soon as she decides you’re cool (takes her a few mins), she wants to be held, kissed, snuggled, and adored. Sleeping arrangements She sleeps in a crate at night — not her preference, but she tolerates it and curls up in the very back like a little crescent roll. Peggie Is Looking For A human who: Is home most of the time Loves to snuggle Doesn’t mind being used as a recliner Can manage a slow walker / stroller rider Has patience, humor, and a soft heart Doesn’t mind a tiny dog with a big personality Peggie may be small, but she’s got a gigantic heart. She’s survived a lot, and she loves hard. She’ll bond intensely with her person, follow you everywhere, adore you endlessly, and make you laugh every single day. If you’re looking for a dog who is cute, ridiculous, brave, clingy, loving, dramatic, and sweet all rolled into one…Peggie is your girl. Fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org, then come and meet this very special girl!November 27, 2025, 10:47 am
