My name is Jarvis and I am a 25 lbs. Moyen Poodle. I am on the smaller side, but I think I am the perfect size. I come from a puppy mill and am 5 years old. I have black patches on my white body, and I think I am very handsome. I am a hair dog, so I do require lots of brushing and grooming appointments. My foster mom gave me a haircut, and I loved having all of my smelly and matted hair removed. I was so excited after my bath that I had to run around in the yard. I was so much cooler without all that hair! When I came to my new foster home, I was very scared and timid. I was not sure what this place was, and who these new people were. However, they do have to foster sisters for me to learn from. I am still a little nervous at times but have settled in and I am getting more comfortable every day. I have learned how to walk on stairs, lay on couches and that the dogs barking on TV are not real. Although sometimes they still trick me and I end up running around looking for the dog that jumped out of the TV. It’s a tricky situation as they look so realistic! Now that I have been in my foster home for a few weeks, I have learned there are a few things I really like or should I say love. One thing I really love to do is be outside in the back yard. I absolutely love to roll in the grass and lounge around in the sun. It is so nice to be outside that I could spend all day here. I have years to catch up on, and this is so much better than the smelly barn full of wood chips that I spent years living in. I also love to play chase with my foster sisters. It is so much fun to run around the back yard with them and play. I don’t have to live in a house with other dogs, but I really do like it as they show me the way and help me be a confident little boy. I have learned to toss a ball around the yard by myself and then chase it down. Toys have become so much fun! When my foster parents play with me outside, I get so excited that I run around the yard, they call it the zoomies. Another thing that I have found I love is when I am in the house I love to lounge on the couch. The first time my foster Dad put me on the couch to snuggle with was awesome. It was so comfortable and I love being close to my humans. Now, I am always on the couch either snuggling or just lounging there. The couch is so soft and comfortable. At night I sleep on the floor on my big boy doggie bed, it is not the couch (LOL) but it is comfortable. I sleep through the night and if I am let out before bed I will last all night without needing to go out. I am fully house trained and will do all my business outside, but you need to make sure you see my signs that I need to go out for a washroom break. I will go to the back door and look at you. I am sure whoever adopts me will figure it out quickly. I have been learning how to walk on a leash. I really don’t like them right now and am still unsure why they are needed. I tend to just stop walking and lay down (sploot) as I don’t know what I am supposed to do. I am getting better and more confident. We practice this every day, and my parents say I am a quick learner, so I am sure I will get it figured out. I see my foster sisters walk just fine so I think I will get the courage to walk like them soon. When I am left alone in the house my foster family puts me in a crate with my favourite treat and a toy to keep me busy. I have only been left alone for a few hours at a time. I am not a huge fan of the crate, but I know I must hang out until my foster family comes home to let me out. I just don’t think it is fair that I am in the crate and sometimes I show my displeasure by whining. I only do it quietly and for a little bit, but I just want to make sure they know about my displeasure. I am so glad that Pound Dog rescued me and has given me a second chance at living life. I have gone to the veterinarian, and I am told that my busy love life is now over. I have been fully vetted and can spend my days relaxing and laying in the sun. I am still new to living in the outside world so loud noises and fast movement startle me. I need a quiet outside environment, so no busy inner city living for me please. I will not be suited to apartment or condo living and would like a house with a securely fenced back yard with room for me to zoomie around in. I would like a home with adults only and have people home more than away. I would also like to learn how to be a properly behaved dog and would enjoy many levels of obedience. I want to make my new family proud of me so level 1 obedience is a must. Since I have spent the first 5 years in a puppy mill, my future family should understand that my journey is still unfolding. I have made tremendous progress, but I am still working on the final version of myself. I will need patience, understanding, and continued encouragement as I learn that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. Hopefully I will find my forever family soon. Introducing Dude the Lab/Poodle mix!  Meet Dude, a lovable 11-month-old dog who came to us as an owner surrender after his beloved owner passed away, leaving him without a home when no family members could step in. Now, he’s eagerly waiting for his forever home where he can thrive and be cherished. Dude is an affectionate companion, ready to become your loyal best friend. Due to his socialization gaps during his critical puppy years, he can be a bit anxious when faced with new experiences. However, with patience and understanding, he learns that not everything is to be feared. He needs to find a home that can provide the time and gentle guidance he needs to build confidence in navigating the world around him. For this reason, we feel that a fenced yard would be the best option for him and possibly another dog in the family to share the yard with! Currently, Dude is being fostered with three other dogs, and he coexists harmoniously with them, showing his friendly and adaptable nature. However, he appears to be wary of cats, so if you have a feline friend, a gradual introduction would be necessary to help ease any apprehension.  If you’re looking for a loving companion who just needs a little extra support, Dude might be the perfect addition to your family! Dude has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, & Heartworm tested, and has also been on monthly preventatives. His adoption fee is $750.00, which includes his health records! You can help them out with these costs by heading to https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/3463 and say it’s for Dude! Story
Leo is a very sweet, loving young man. He loves everyone and every experience for him is new and exciting! He loves to cuddle, be pet and get kisses, and will jump up to 'hug' when greeting humans. We are working on helping him to learn that all 4 feet need to stay on the ground! He loves car rides, running and playing and leash walks, though he's still learning that he isn't a sled dog! He is curious about the kitties in his foster home, and can be a bit too friendly with them, so any kitties in his forever home must be confident and understand his love. He is a little underweight and has now gotten into a great feeding routine with quality food and is looking better in his skin. He does have food aggression towards the other dog in his foster home and needs to be seperated or will bark and snap. Foster is working to get him to understand his food is his and he doesn't need to guard it. He doesn't like to be left outside alone, and will panic and cry if he thinks he was left. He is comfortable in his crate and knows that he only is there when foster is at work or it's bedtime. Inside he prefers to be touching his humon and the closer he can get, that happier he is! He came into care very matted, and needed a very close shave/groom. He will need to be maintained with daily brushing as well as routine grooming (likely every 3 to 4 months). He is up to date with his vaccines, will need a booster soon, is neutered and heartworm negative, and has been flea and tick treated. His adoption fee is $500. You must be 21 years old to adopt and provide vet and personal references. An application to adopt him can be found on our website www.oxfordcountyanimalrescue.com. Click on Adopt, then Dogs for Adoption, and scroll to the bottom of the page. Do not click the link on his profile and be sure to fill in all anwers completely without using autofill. All applications are reviewed, and if we feel you might be a good fit for him, you will be contacted to arrange a home visit as well as for permission to speak with your vet. Repeated phone calls and emails with not advance your application. We are a volunteer, foster based rescue and there is no opportunity to meet him before an application has been approved. We thankyou for respecting these guidelines.
