Story
*Note: Benny is currently in Korea but will be arriving in Toronto once he is adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please visit our website.BackgroundBenny’s story began on the streets. After being taken to a high-kill shelter, his name appeared on the euthanasia list but fate had other plans. He was saved just in time, and today Benny lives happily alongside other dogs at a boarding house, waiting for the forever home he so deserves.Personality and SocializationBenny is a gentle, sweet, and wonderfully social boy with a medium energy level that makes him an easy, adaptable companion. He loves the company of other dogs, especially those around his own size. He plays well with them and genuinely thrives in their company. With people, Benny is an absolute cuddle bug. He’s warm and affectionate, loves attention, and has no fear of men. Whether it’s snuggle time on the sofa or simply being near his people, Benny is happiest when he feels connected.BehaviourBenny is a well-mannered, easy-going boy in day-to-day life. He walks beautifully on a leash and loves his outdoor time. He is calm and comfortable in the car, and is equally patient and well-behaved during baths, nail clipping, and grooming sessions. For potty, he prefers to go outdoors but will use indoor pee pads when needed. He currently shows no separation anxiety when in the company of other dogs.Health and DietBenny is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped, and receives monthly parasite prevention. He eats dry food twice a day and has shown no signs of food allergies. There are two health conditions to be aware of. Benny was diagnosed with Stage B2 heart disease and requires daily heart medication. He is stable and well-managed, and to help with the transition, Benny will come with two months of heart medication included. Benny has also recently developed nuclear sclerosis, a natural age-related change to the lens of the eye that causes a mild hazy appearance. It does not cause significant vision loss and requires no treatment. It is a common symptom associated with aging.Ideal HomeBenny doesn’t ask for much. He just wants to be loved. His ideal family is someone who can give him plenty of time and companionship. A work-from-home professional or retiree would be a wonderful match. Most importantly, his new family should be comfortable managing his heart medication and attending routine vet check-ups. In return, Benny will give you everything he has: unconditional love, endless loyalty, and all the cuddles you could ever want. Could you be the one he’s been waiting for?

Story
Fred is a sweet, loving 6.5-year-old toy poodle who bonds deeply with his person and loves to play fetch. He is playful and affectionate when comfortable, but needs the right match. Fred has severe noise sensitivity - kitchen sounds, loud voices, and sudden movements startle him greatly. He has been this way since puppyhood and needs a very calm, quiet environment to feel safe. Important considerations: Fred does best in an adult-only or older children home, as he may nip if kids run or move suddenly. He resource guards his food and water and has attacked other dogs over this. He strongly prefers to be an only pet, though he can tolerate very calm dogs who mind their own business - no energetic or playful dogs. Ideal home: Single person or quiet couple with dog experience, preferably in a home with a fenced yard where he can play. No young children. Someone patient who understands anxious dogs and can provide a predictable, low-stress routine.

We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Hello, let me introduce myself. My name is Jarvis and I am a 25 lbs. Moyen Poodle. I am on the smaller side, but I think I am the perfect size. I come from a puppy mill and am 5 years old. I have black patches on my white body, and I think I am very handsome. I am a hair dog, so I do require lots of brushing and grooming appointments. My foster mom gave me a haircut, and I loved having all of my smelly and matted hair removed. I was so excited after my bath that I had to run around in the yard. I was so much cooler without all that hair! When I came to my new foster home, I was very scared and timid. I was not sure what this place was, and who these new people were. However, they do have to foster sisters for me to learn from. I am still a little nervous at times but have settled in and I am getting more comfortable every day. I have learned how to walk on stairs, lay on couches and that the dogs barking on TV are not real. Although sometimes they still trick me and I end up running around looking for the dog that jumped out of the TV. It’s a tricky situation as they look so realistic! Now that I have been in my foster home for a few weeks, I have learned there are a few things I really like or should I say love. One thing I really love to do is be outside in the back yard. I absolutely love to roll in the grass and lounge around in the sun. It is so nice to be outside that I could spend all day here. I have years to catch up on, and this is so much better than the smelly barn full of wood chips that I spent years living in. I also love to play chase with my foster sisters. It is so much fun to run around the back yard with them and play. I don’t have to live in a house with other dogs, but I really do like it as they show me the way and help me be a confident little boy. I have learned to toss a ball around the yard by myself and then chase it down. Toys have become so much fun! When my foster parents play with me outside, I get so excited that I run around the yard, they call it the zoomies. Another thing that I have found I love is when I am in the house I love to lounge on the couch. The first time my foster Dad put me on the couch to snuggle with was awesome. It was so comfortable and I love being close to my humans. Now, I am always on the couch either snuggling or just lounging there. The couch is so soft and comfortable. At night I sleep on the floor on my big boy doggie bed, it is not the couch (LOL) but it is comfortable. I sleep through the night and if I am let out before bed I will last all night without needing to go out. I am fully house trained and will do all my business outside, but you need to make sure you see my signs that I need to go out for a washroom break. I will go to the back door and look at you. I am sure whoever adopts me will figure it out quickly. I have been learning how to walk on a leash. I really don’t like them right now and am still unsure why they are needed. I tend to just stop walking and lay down (sploot) as I don’t know what I am supposed to do. I am getting better and more confident. We practice this every day, and my parents say I am a quick learner, so I am sure I will get it figured out. I see my foster sisters walk just fine so I think I will get the courage to walk like them soon. When I am left alone in the house my foster family puts me in a crate with my favourite treat and a toy to keep me busy. I have only been left alone for a few hours at a time. I am not a huge fan of the crate, but I know I must hang out until my foster family comes home to let me out. I just don’t think it is fair that I am in the crate and sometimes I show my displeasure by whining. I only do it quietly and for a little bit, but I just want to make sure they know about my displeasure. I am so glad that Pound Dog rescued me and has given me a second chance at living life. I have gone to the veterinarian, and I am told that my busy love life is now over. I have been fully vetted and can spend my days relaxing and laying in the sun. I am still new to living in the outside world so loud noises and fast movement startle me. I need a quiet outside environment, so no busy inner city living for me please. I will not be suited to apartment or condo living and would like a house with a securely fenced back yard with room for me to zoomie around in. I would like a home with adults only and have people home more than away. I would also like to learn how to be a properly behaved dog and would enjoy many levels of obedience. I want to make my new family proud of me so level 1 obedience is a must. Since I have spent the first 5 years in a puppy mill, my future family should understand that my journey is still unfolding. I have made tremendous progress, but I am still working on the final version of myself. I will need patience, understanding, and continued encouragement as I learn that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. Hopefully I will find my forever family soon. Story
Leo is approximately 2 years old and 12 pounds  Leo is proof that patience and trust can change a life. When Leo first arrived in foster care, he was wary of people, and handling him could be a challenge. Months later, this clever, affectionate poodle now loves curling up on his foster mom's lap. Leo thrives on kindness, routine, and thoughtful introductions. Once he feels comfortable, he enjoys playing with other friendly dogs and has been wonderful with his puppy foster brother. When he has had enough playtime, Leo communicates his boundaries appropriately and simply walks away rather than engaging in conflict. He has made tremendous progress with both leash manners and dog reactivity. While he once barked and lunged at other dogs, he can now calmly pass them and even greet them appropriately. He is also growing more comfortable around strangers and has improved significantly when visitors come into the home. Leo still needs time, treats, and slow introductions to help him build confidence with new people. Leo will need an adopter committed to continuing his training in an adult-only home. His foster mom uses a muzzle for nail trims and for handling certain grooming areas, especially his front feet. In the past, grooming could lead to nipping or biting, but he is now coping much better and communicating more clearly. He can still become overly excited during games like fetch and may show some arousal grabbing, but he has made excellent progress learning "drop it," "wait," and "ok" through positive reinforcement training. When Leo first arrived, he would try to ingest items he found outdoors. With training and management, that behavior has improved dramatically, especially when traded for a treat. He responds well to cues like "look" and "drop it," though supervision is still important. In the home, Leo is an absolute delight. He is housetrained, crate-trained, fine when left alone, gentle when taking treats, rides beautifully in the car, and knows several commands including sit, down, wait, look, bow, and recall. He enjoys adventures but most of all loves being close to his humans. Because he can be vocal, apartment living would not be a good fit, and he will need a secure fenced yard. Every day brings new successes for little Leo. His journey has been remarkable, and with a patient, understanding family willing to keep building his confidence, he will reward them with loyalty, affection, and companionship.June 29, 2026, 3:39 pm

Story
Honey: came to us from a Mennonite puppy mill  Honey is a gentle, affectionate, 5 year old, little companion looking for a home where she can be close to her people. She may take time to warm up, but once she loves you, she becomes a true Velcro dog.  She will follow you everywhere, happily snoozing beside you while you work, and always ready for cuddles, belly rubs, and couch time. She has never shown any aggression, and quickly bonds with her person. She would do best with someone who works from home or is home for most of the day given she is a velcro dog. Like many mill dogs, Honey can become anxious in various new and different scenarios. She struggled with nighttime pacing and panting when she first arrived and is most comfortable sleeping in bed with her people. She is not a fan of crates, dislikes car rides, and can be nervous around cars in general. Her adopter should be prepared to continue building her confidence and making sure she feel safe through positive reinforcement and enrichment, to help her feel secure.  Honey is mostly house trained and does best on a consistent bathroom schedule, as she doesn't reliably signal when she needs to go outside. Occasional accidents can happen if her routine changes. She would do best in a home with a fenced in yard and with someone who is home often to continue to work on her house training. Pee pads are available.    For those interested in adopting one of our puppy mill release dogs, please be aware that these dogs often require extra patience, structure, and ongoing support. Their temperaments and behaviours can vary widely, and for the best outcome, adoptive homes MUST have access to a fully fenced yard and understand that rehabilitation is a gradual process. Many of these dogs have not yet experienced living in a home, regular interaction with people, leash walking, housetraining, or even having a name. All of these new people, environments, and activities can be scary for them and many are flight risks while they adjust.  Leash walks may not even be a safe option for them initially which is why having access to their own fenced yard is essential.  They need a patient adopter who can meet them at their comfort level and gently help them learn how to be a companion animal. Story
Christmas in July has come early… don’t miss out, adopt Claus! At approximately 3 years old and 25 lbs, this medium-sized Poodle is ready to sleigh his way right onto your nice list. Claus is being fostered in Toronto. Claus has one holiday mission: spreading joy and making friends wherever he goes. Humans? Ho-ho-his favourite. Visitors? A reason to celebrate. Other dogs? Future members of Team Claus! This curly Christmas miracle is equal parts sweetheart and lovable elf. Claus is goofy and playful but he’s also already house trained, knows his basic commands, and is eager to please, making him a gift that comes fully assembled! He’s still decking the halls of his manners, though, and sometimes forgets that not everyone wants an enthusiastic pair of fluffy paws wrapped around them. If energy were Christmas lights, Claus would be the entire North Pole display. This merry little reindeer absolutely loves his walks and has made them the top item on his wish list. The second he spots his leash, he jingles all the way with spins, hops, play bows. Frequent exercise helps keep this festive fellow happy, and he loves sniffing out new adventures and greeting admirers. And yes, his zoomies are faster than Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve! Once the festivities wind down, Claus is happy to settle in for a long nap. He’s perfectly suited for a house, condo, or apartment as long as he gets his regular exercise. His tiny nub tail may be short, but his full-body wiggles are merry and bright whenever you come home. Claus can experience some separation anxiety, so he’ll do best with a family who is home often. In return, this sweet boy will give you enough love, loyalty, and Christmas cheer to last the whole year! Bring home Claus and make every day feel like Christmas morning. He’s ready to sleigh the role of loving family member! ••••••••• As my foster family gets to know me my profile can change and will be updated accordingly. Check back often for details! An application for me can be found at www.justpaws.ca. Just Paws is located in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. We do not adopt out of province or country. Please note that although many of our dogs get along with children, we are not able to adopt to any household with kids under the age of 8 years old. This is a stipulation of our insurance and is not a reflection on suitability of the potential adopter.
