Story
Bexley & Layken are a tiny, gentle mother–daughter pair looking for a forever family together. Bexley (9) and her daughter Laken (6) are two small, incredibly sweet doodle mixes whose world changed overnight. Bexley is a 15-lb poodle mix, and Layken is a 25-lb goldendoodle, both perfectly sized for cuddling, companionship, and apartment or home living. After their beloved mom passed away and their dad was placed in a nursing home, these girls were abandoned at a high-kill shelter — along with 50 pages of medical records showing the exceptional care they once received. Heartbroken and confused, they clung to each other for comfort, and the shelter reached out for rescue help. Now safe with us, their gentle personalities are shining through. Bexley is a quiet, tender soul who loves softly and deeply. She’s calm, polite, and lets Layken take the spotlight while she stays close by. Layken is the more social, attention-loving daughter. Affectionate, sweet, and happiest when snuggled up to her humans. These two are truly inseparable. When they were briefly separated, both became sad and anxious, even attempting to escape — something they have never done when they’re together. They draw confidence and comfort from each other and must be adopted as a pair. Unfortunately, the two spend most of their time in a kennel, which is not something any dog should have to go through, but fosters homes are unavailable and the alternative is not an option. Bexley and Layken are very well-behaved, calm, and quiet pups who are great with other dogs. A home without cats will be ideal for them. The girls are fully vetted, spayed, microchipped. They are also Heartworm negative and kept on preventatives. These two gentle family companions are currently in Houston, Texas, but can travel anywhere in the U.S. — even Canada — for the perfect forever home. Bexley & Laken have known deep love and deep loss. Now they’re ready for a new chapter filled with safety, devotion, and family. If you’re looking for two small, gentle, incredibly sweet companions, these girls are waiting with open hearts. Yards, if any, must be adequately and fully fenced to adopt our pups. We do not accept electric or underground fences. Our dogs are fully assessed by foster parents, vets and behaviorists, as well as videos and video chats are available to observe their manners in public. We are extremely transparent and like to share everything negative and positive with the adopters, to ensure it's a good fit and they are not returned to us, as the trips are very stressful on them. Houston is home to million strays, many who are abandoned, many born on the streets, many who escaped while living in the yard, which is common in Texas. Since our rescue does not get grants that shelters get, we use adoption fee to help the pups and kitties in our care. Your adoption fee goes towards vetting and feeding our long term and permanent fosters, and unadoptable pups, as well as towards the monthly care and preventatives etc of our pets. By adopting one pup from our rescue, you make room for another dog to be rescued from our high kill shelter, thus becoming an integral part of our mission to save as many unfortunate dogs off the streets and shelters as possible. So Thank you for choosing to rescue, and not go to a breeder.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Zelle, or cash only. donate@yorkierescuehouston.org or, if you prefer: our fundraising platform, Zeffy Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Surrendered with her Fur-Sister, Ari, this sweet girl can see shadows and movement, but we don't believe she can see much else.  She is slowly learning our environment and we believe these girls can be separated.  She is becoming more independent and soloing more frequently. Absolutely NO inground pools or stairs for this girl's forever home. She does quite well with our doggie door.  She is not a fan of men.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2025, 11:50 am

She is totally house broken. She sleeps on our bed every night. She absolutely loves her twice daily walks thru the neighborhood. She is a little timid with men at first but warms up quickly. She loves to lay beside you in your chair and snuggle. She loves to play with toys especially lamb chops and tennis balls. She would make a great dog for an active senior who likes to go for walks but also enjoys some downtime to just quietly sit and watch tv and enjoy each others company       This girl was surrendered with her 'fur sister' Ava when their caregiver was moved into memory care.  She has been Ava's 'person' since losing their mom.  She gets along with children and loves women.  Men, not so much. She loves to snuggle with her person in bed, and sleeps through the night. She seeks love and attention without encouragement.  She is a quiet girl, I don't think I've heard her bark once.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 9, 2025, 1:27 pm
