Story
Meet Bruno, a 1-year-old Maltese/Poodle mix with long little legs, expressive eyes, and the sweetest goofy smile. Weighing just 14 pounds, Bruno is equal parts playful, curious, and incredibly devoted. Once you’ve earned his trust, he’ll happily follow you from room to room, curl up beside you, and become your most loyal little shadow.
Bruno came to ROOT Rescue as an owner surrender through no fault of his own. Like many dogs whose lives have been turned upside down, he was understandably nervous when he first arrived in foster care. With patience, consistency, and the support of his foster family’s dogs, he has blossomed into a happy, affectionate young dog whose personality shines a little brighter every day.
Bruno is naturally cautious around new people and likes to take his time getting to know someone before deciding they’re part of his circle. He can be especially hesitant around men, but with gentle introductions, patience, and a little time, he continues to build confidence and form strong bonds. Once he trusts you, his loyalty is unmatched.
One of Bruno’s favorite things is having another dog around. He absolutely loves other dogs and gets along wonderfully with cats, making him an excellent companion in a multi-pet household. We think he would thrive with another friendly, confident dog who can continue showing him that the world is a safe place. While he could succeed as an only dog with a patient adopter, having a canine buddy has made a tremendous difference in his confidence.
When he’s comfortable, Bruno is a joyful, silly little guy. He loves exploring on walks, enjoys car rides, plays happily with his dog friends, and is always curious about what’s going on around him. He’s incredibly sweet and affectionate, happiest when he’s near his people or playing with his canine companions.
Bruno is also a very well-mannered little gentleman. He is crate trained, house trained, walks nicely on leash, and enjoys having a cozy place to relax after a day of adventures.
When Bruno first arrived in our care, his coat was severely matted and had to be shaved down. His soft, beautiful coat is growing back nicely, and his future family should be prepared for regular grooming to keep him comfortable and looking his best.
Because Bruno is still building confidence, we think he’d do best in a calm home without very young children, where his family will respect his need to warm up at his own pace. In return, they’ll gain an incredibly loving, faithful companion who will reward their patience many times over.
Bruno is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, heartworm and Lyme tested, and ready to find the forever family he’s been waiting for.
If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, loyal companion and have the patience to let a shy dog become your best friend, Bruno just might be your perfect match.
