Story
Alice was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2116271##

Story
HOMEOWNERSHIP REQUIRED! Hey there, it's Schnazzy!  How about these mesmerizing eyes of mine – one's blue, the other's brown – quite the head-turner, right? I'm not just stunning in pictures; you've got to set up a meet and greet to truly experience my awesomeness!  I'm a social butterfly, always up for a playdate with anything that moves! Outdoors is my happy place – you'll find me lingering, rolling in the grass or snow, and always the last to come inside. But when I'm not chasing adventures, I'm a sweetheart who loves to snuggle, cuddle, and just be close to my humans or furry friends.  Fully potty trained and amazing in my crate, all night without a peep!   And I'm rocking the social scene for my age. I sit, stay and am working on being better on my leash.  They say I'm a Mountain Cur mix, but what I know for sure is I'm the lovable kind! At 10 months old, I'm ready to charm you. I'm vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. Come on over, let's make friends and dive into some serious playtime fun!  Adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter Rabies Vaccination Distemper / Parvo Vaccines (includes series of 3 for puppies) Bordetella Microchip with prepaid lifetime registration Deworming ##1882002##

Story
***Staff thinks I will be ready by late July. Dexter is a spirited and sociable puppy with a charming personality. He thrives on human interaction and enjoys the company of other dogs, always eager to make new friends. Dexter has a playful side and is especially fond of food and toys, often diving into a game of fetch or tug-of-war with boundless enthusiasm.*** I am not currently at the shelter because I`m growing big and strong in a foster home! You can sign up to pre-adopt me by placing a $50 choice hold. This is a non-refundable fee that does not go towards my adoption fee, but it does give you the first opportunity to adopt me. Shelter staff will contact you when I’m ready to go home with my new family! To place a choice hold, you can either come into the shelter or call us at 719-473-1741; you may wait to speak with a customer service representative or leave a voicemail. Choice holds are placed on a first-come, first-serve basis and only one choice hold can be placed on an animal. Once I am old enough to go home, I will have to be adopted at the shelter without a visit. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to visit while I’m in the foster home as it’s a lot of stress on me to be transported back and forth to the shelter for visits, which makes me more susceptible to getting sick. We want to be healthy for our new life together!

Story
Lina is a smart and beautiful 4-year-old Catahoula mix. She may come off as shy at first, but once she has gotten to know you, she is a very affectionate dog who loves to cuddle up with her favorite humans. She is calm and prefers a quiet life, and definitely prefers to be an only dog, but is perfectly fine living with cats. Due to her shy nature, she would do best in a home with children over the age of 13. She can be a little anxious in new situations, so she would greatly benefit from a patient and understanding owner who can help her come out of her shell and learn to be a more confident dog. She may take some time to warm up to you, but once she does, she will be your loyal companion and be the best under-cover-snuggler / heater anyone could ask for. Lina enjoys long walks, likes to train and likes to play with toys...the ones with squeakers are the best!
