Story
"Bongo is an approximately 7-8 month, old medium sized (42 pound), perfectly mixed boy who is lucky to be alive today. He was picked up as a stray and landed at a high intake shelter in Houston and was never claimed. Bongo was completely terrified there and spent most of his time submissively and quietly cowering in his kennel trying to be invisible, flinching when anyone went to touch him. He was euthanasia listed after only 10 days. The pictures and descriptions from this part of his life are heartbreaking. We are so glad we took a chance on this guy. We’ve learned that he just feels very deeply, was very depressed and scared, and he was in desperate need of decompression time to start coming out of his shell. He’s actually a very sweet, smart boy who is learning quickly and soaks up love and stability like he’s making up for lost time. He is learning about the good side of humanity. Noteworthy to us is, despite however he was treated before, he has been totally non-aggressive and wanting to trust humans even when fearful and unsure. Because of this and his age, we know he will continue to amaze us all with his resilience. Bongo likes other dogs and we do think he would do well with another established dog(s) in his forever home. He’s healthy, doing well on his crate/housetraining with his routine, and walks decently on a leash. He will do best with patient adopters in a quiet-ish home that are willing to give him consistency and help him to become braver and more confident over time. He loves snacks, likes snuggles once he knows the snuggler is nice to him, and is learning how to play with toys." Bongo is being fostered in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/bongo/. Story
Zazu is an athletic dog with lots of energy, although she is fairly mellow when inside the home. She needs outdoor time and loves to go on hikes and mountain bike with her owner. She also loves chasing a ball. She’s always been a little skittish and independent. We think she would thrive in an “only” pet situation. She has been great with kids. We have had her for almost 5 years and it’s with a heavy heart that we are re-homing her. However, she and another one of our dogs no longer get along. We have tried to reintroduce them but they continue to fight. Accordingly, we are forced to re-home one of them. Based on what we have observed, she would do best in a home with no other pets.

Story
Video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6FPwMardAfI Twister is such a beautiful girl. She found herself pregnant at a small high kill shelter. The stress of being at the shelter made her deliver still born puppies. After grieving the loss, she has now blossomed into a happy, healthy girl who cannot wait to find her forever home. She is great with dogs of all sizes and loves going on group walks with the rest of the gang. She is also great with cats. She will be your best friend. Will you be hers? She is currently still in Oklahoma where she was rescued but she can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. She has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take her in or she will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: spayed, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection.
