Story
Introducing Copper! Affectionate Gentle Playful Initially Shy Personality: Copper is a sweet Dane who may be shy at first, but once he feels safe, his affectionate and silly nature begins to shine. He’s calm, kind, and loves being included in the daily routine. A creature of habit, he thrives in consistency and finds comfort in knowing what to expect. Socialness: Copper gets along well with everyone in his foster home. He’s submissive with other dogs and respectful of their space, often waiting for them to initiate interaction. He hasn’t been around cats, so slow and structured introductions will be needed. He responds well to slow, structured introductions with new people. Due to some resource guarding around toys (which his foster has diligently been working on), older children or those with experience around large dogs would be best. Likes & Dislikes: Loves zoomies and playing with other dogs Enjoys toys, snuggling, and car rides Dislikes raised voices and nail trims Training: Copper is crate trained, housebroken, and does not destroy bedding or toys. He can comfortably be left alone during a typical 8-hour workday. He knows the commands sit, come, down, shake, and leave it. He is leash trained, incredibly smart, eager to please, and responds very well to positive reinforcement. Health: Copper is in great health with no current concerns. He does seem to have a beef sensitivity, so he’s currently on chicken-based food and treats with success. Forever Home Wishlist: A fenced yard is preferred An apartment or apartment-style setting could be fine, as he's quiet and well-mannered A family committed to continuing his progress with toy/food guarding Older children or an adult-only home Another dog companion would be a plus, especially one who matches his gentle energy If you think Copper will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. Story
NEWLY AVAILABLE Introducing Sprinkles Affectionate Initially Shy Playful Energetic  Personality: Sprinkles may be shy at first, but once she feels safe, she blossoms into an affectionate, playful girl who loves attention. She enjoys being near her people and happily alternates between bursts of puppy zoomies and peaceful naps. Sprinkles is silly, sweet, and full of personality—especially when she’s proudly squeaking her favorite stuffed toys.  Socialness: Sprinkles benefits from slow introductions, particularly with men. She may bark and back away initially, but once she warms up, she becomes incredibly loving and attached—she is especially bonded to her foster dad. She previously lived with a child around 10 years old and did well, though due to her puppy energy, she could accidentally knock over smaller children.  Her history with other dogs is mixed. She previously lived with multiple dogs, and did not get along with one of them. She has not yet been introduced to new dogs in her foster home and will bark at dogs walking past the house. Because of this, Sprinkles would likely do best as an only dog or with a calm, submissive canine companion who will not challenge her. She previously lived with cats and reportedly did fine.  Likes: Walks (she enjoys multiple walks per day) Playing fetch and tug Squeaky stuffed toys Being near her people Getting pets/attention  Dislikes: New or unfamiliar sounds in her foster house. But she’s getting SO much better after some time and adjusts well!  Being left alone for long periods  Training: Sprinkles attended a board-and-train program and knows sit and stay, with “break” as her release cue. She walks nicely on a leash and generally listens well, though she could benefit from a refresher course to continue building confidence and consistency. She is crate trained but prefers not to be crated and is trusted to free roam. She is fully housebroken.  Health: Sprinkles is in good health with no current concerns.  Forever Home Wishlist: A home where she is not left alone for more than 5 hours at a time Preferably a house rather than an apartment due to her puppy energy A family committed to slow, patient introductions to new people Ideally an only dog or paired with a calm, submissive dog Any children should be around 10 years old or older Cats may be ok  Fun Fact:Sprinkles will sometimes sit and watch TV—and she takes her squeaky toy performances very seriously, proudly parading them around before settling in for snuggles.  If you think Sprinkles will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below.  1. Story
Introducing Luna! Sweetheart Adaptable Courageous Affectionate  Luna is one half of an extraordinary pair of Great Danes who embody courage, kindness, and boundless love. Luna and her brother, Ares, are ready to embark on a new chapter of their lives with you. This lovely lady is a stunning, white Great Dane who exhibits grace and charm that's simply unmatched. Her world is painted in shades of love and determination due to overcoming vision impairments with remarkable finesse due to her hearing and smelling She has proven that strength lies not in what we see, but in the unwavering spirit within. With every step, she demonstrates her determination to explore life to the fullest. Her bond with her brother is something truly special. They continue to find support from each other as they navigate their world safely. Their connection is a testament to the power of love and companionship, and they must be adopted together to ensure that they continue to thrive. They both love to be around their people and soak up the attention. While they aren't that into playing with toys, they do love going for walks and car rides! These two gentle giants can be the perfect addition to your family and can do well in a household with cats and older children. Due to their special needs, a home where they will be the only dogs is necessary. Both dogs are housebroken, crate-trained, and walk well on a leash. Their foster family has also noted they do well during car rides. A physical fence and minimal steps are required due to them having difficulty with hearing and vision. Neither dog has any medical/health concerns, but Ares occasionally requires an ointment for his eye. Are you ready to open your heart and home to this remarkable pair of siblings? If so, please reach out to us by one of the following steps. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and have been approved by UMGDR, please contact Ares & Luna’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to express your interest. 2. If you have not submitted an application, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Please visit https://www.thegreatdanerescue.com/adoption-application to complete an application. After you have been approved, please contact Ares & Luna’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to express your interest. This awesome duo is currently located in Presque Isle, WI. Since Luna and Ares need to be adopted together, the combined adoption fee is $475.74. ##1579466##
