Story
Millie came from a Newfie breeder that had a female get out of the yard while in heat for about 30 minutes. She bred her to another Newfie but when the pups were born something wasn't right. She DNA tested her and she has golden retriever and bloodhound in her as well as newfie. So she turned to us for help placing them in loving homes. We still have 3 girls available and they were born on Feb 19. Millie has the most perfect eyes! And she is definitely a poser. She can be prissy but she can also play hard! She also loves the water. If you are looking for a gentle giant that loves affection and water, Millie is your girl. She is UTD on all required vaccines and is microchipped. Story
🐾 Meet Peewee! 🐾 This beautiful 1-year-old Newfoundland is ready to find a family to call her own! Weighing in at approximately 90–100 pounds, Peewee is every bit the lovable giant... sweet, friendly, and full of personality. She's still a young girl and can be a bit of a "bull in a china shop" since she still thinks she's still a small puppy, so she's looking for a family ready to help her become the best companion she can be. Peewee is wonderful for the groomer, takes treats gently, and absolutely loves the water—just as a true Newfie should! 💦 🏡 Peewee's ideal home: 🐾 Experienced with XL/giant breed dogs 🐾 Committed to professional training (starting within 3 weeks of adoption) and continued socialization 🐾 Larger/older children (ideally teens +) 🐾 Preferably as the only pet for now (though she may do well with a large, fixed dog after going through training and proper introductions) 🐾 A family that doesn't mind a little... okay, maybe a lot... of classic Newfoundland drool! If you're looking for a loyal, loving giant with a goofy personality and are ready to invest the time she deserves, Peewee just might be your perfect match. (*Peewee will be adopted out on a spay contract, as her vet recommended waiting until she's 1.5yr old) ****JDR adopts out dogs to NJ and the immediate surrounding areas. Adopters must be willing to travel to NJ to meet the dog with all residents (human and dog(s)). We do NOT transport or adopt out to states that are not located close to NJ**** If you think Peewee would make a good addition to your family, please apply via our website!

Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! This 3-year-old gentleman has learned the hard way that forever isn't always truly forever, but he refuses to give up hope! We thought we had found Apollo's forever home, but his recent family neglected to secure the doors to their home, and Apollo wound up on the front lawn. At the same time, their neighbor's 5 large dogs were off-leash in their front yard. Apollo was attacked and wound up with several puncture wounds. We are so thankful he did not lose his life, but this was clearly NOT a safe home for our boy! And so this sweet boy is now in need of a true forever home where he can be someone's one and only dog. Apollo is one of the sweetest dogs we have had in our care. He is super chill and just wants to hang out with his humans and cuddle. He enjoys spending time in the yard, and we are seeking a home for him with a physically fenced yard so he can sniff in all the good scents to his heart's content. Apollo walks well on the leash and knows his basic commands. He is not a fan of thunder, but then again, most dogs (and humans) are not. Apollo is in a wonderful foster home in AL, and his foster mom shares such lovely details about this handsome honey-boy. "Apollo has been great for us. He's a big, sweet baby who just needs some love and understanding. Apollo is very curious and may curiously dash at the cats to get a sniff, but he listens when you tell him to stop; he's very obedient!" "You can tell he just wants to be good and do right. He wants to be right where you are at all times. He's definitely not a fan of thunder, though, so if it's raining or thundering, he wants to be held, and he may not even eat til the weather passes. But he does eat very well once he's comfortable and feels safe. I think he just takes time to adjust. Overall, he is a gentle giant and would make someone a great companion!" Now, doesn't that make you want to adopt Apollo!?! We bet that if you watch Apollo's video, you will fall in love! Apollo is believed to be a St. Bernard mix, maybe with some Newfie, and he weighs about 85 lbs. Whatever breeds he may be, he is GORGEOUS with his beautiful black coat and white blaze on his chest! His paws even have some white spots on them as though Apollo stepped in some paint! Just look at how handsome Apollo is with his red bandana. He is one of the COOLEST dogs ever! Apollo is a young dog who will benefit from continued guidance in his leash skills and basic commands to help him bond with his humans and feel more confident, especially after his sad past experience. He didn't do anything wrong, but he lost his home, and he deserves to feel loved and become his best handsome, sweet self. Apollo is up-to-date on vaccinations, micro-chipped, heartworm negative, and neutered. If you are approved to adopt through SGRR please contact Cheryl Kewley . He will be ready to come north in mid-June to be directly adopted. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to learn more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. ADOPTION FEES - Effective of October 1, 2024 PUREBRED DOGS Purebred puppies, up to 6 months $1000 Purebred dogs, 6 months - 6 years $800 Purebred dogs, 7 - 9 years $650 Purebred dogs, 10 years and up $550 Young dogs with special needs $650 Senior dogs with special needs $500 Pairs of Purebred Puppies, up to 6 months $1600 Bonded pair - young purebred dogs $1400 Bonded pair - senior dogs 7 years & up $1000 MIXED BREED DOGS Up to 6 months $850 6 months - 6 years $750 7 - 9 years $650 10 years and up $550 Young dogs with special needs $650 Senior dogs with special needs $500 Bonded pair - young dogs $1000 Bonded pair - senior dogs 7 years & up $900 A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog. Story
This handsome boy was picked up running at large and based on Facebook posts it was about his third or fourth offense, but no one claimed him. We are guessing that he was a failure at being a livestock guardian because he’s way too social. He’s always wanting to visit someone new. Charlie is a little over a year old and weighs 121 lbs. He was very thin when he first came to us but is now at his perfect weight. He is neutered, up to date on required vaccines, microchipped and heartworm tested negative. He’s house trained and he loves other dogs, but he is a big guy. He also will require a tall fence, and you will have to keep an eye on him because again he likes to visit new people. He also has an obsession with deer! For that reason, a privacy fence would be ideal if you have deer around your home. He’s affectionate and likes to lean on you. He is learning commands like sit and stay and he really tries to please! This is what his foster mom says about him " Charlie is amazing. He is housebroken, loves to be hugged, hasn’t chewed anything up, likes to play but is content just to chill. He walks beautifully on a leash and likes to say hi to everyone he meets. Charlie enjoys sitting and looking out the window, hanging around in the kitchen especially when I’m cooking and going for car rides". Although this breed is known for having a stubborn streak, Charlie seems to understand a few commands wait, it’s ok, no, come, let’s go and he will even sit for a treat. But his favorite is Good Boy Charlie❤️" This guy would be a great dog for an active loving family. He’s so sweet! If you would like to be Charlie’s forever family, please email dogs4mylife@ gmail.com or olmc7@ hotmail.com. Story
If fluffy, funny, affectionate puppies are your weakness, you may want to stop right here — because Maxine is about to steal your heart. This adorable Great Pyrenees mix girl was born in early June and, despite being just a few months old, she has already developed quite the personality. Maxine is playful, curious, smart, affectionate, and just a tiny bit opinionated — in the most entertaining puppy way possible!Maxine and her sister were discovered wandering onto a family’s property in the Indiana countryside. Rather than sending these little girls into an already overcrowded shelter, Critter Cavalry Rescue stepped in and gave them a safe place to grow and flourish. And Maxine has wasted no time showing everyone what a special puppy she is.She is a confident little girl who loves to explore and be involved in whatever is happening around her. She has a playful streak and isn't afraid to let her foster siblings know when she is ready for some fun, but she is also respectful of the Poodle mix girls she lives with. She has happily settled into life as the youngster of the household, bringing plenty of puppy energy and entertainment to her more independent foster sisters.Maxine is also proving to be a very good student. She is being crate trained, learning to walk on a leash, and is already sleeping through the night. With consistent guidance, she is picking up new things quickly. Good food, proper care, deworming, and lots of love have helped her grow stronger and more confident every day.And then there is that fluff!Maxine has the unmistakable beginnings of the gorgeous Great Pyrenees coat, along with the chunky little puppy body that makes you want to scoop her up and cuddle her. We believe she may grow to around 70 pounds, so her adopter should be prepared for this tiny fluffball to eventually become a beautiful, impressive big girl. But Maxine isn't just cute. She is a puppy who genuinely loves her people. She loves food, she loves playtime, she loves affection, and she especially loves snuggling up with her foster family after a busy day of puppy adventures. She has a wonderful way of turning all the care she receives into kisses, cuddles, and goofy little antics that keep everyone smiling. We can already picture Maxine growing into the kind of dog who will be a loyal family companion — the big fluffy girl who follows her people around, supervises everything going on in the house, and then happily stretches out beside you when the day's adventures are over. She is still a baby, and she will need a family committed to continuing her training, socialization, and guidance as she grows. But if you're looking for a puppy who is smart, affectionate, entertaining, and destined to become a magnificent big dog, Maxine may be your girl.Maxine is being fostered in Nashville, Tennessee. She can be adopted locally now and can be transported to the northeastern states soon.To inquire about this sweet, fluffy little girl, email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com and please tell us where you live when you reach out.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comSeptember 2, 2026, 12:41 am

Story
Meet Marty — 20 pounds of fluffy puppy fun with a whole lot more growing to do! Marty is a happy, energetic Great Pyrenees mix who has never met an adventure he didn’t want to investigate or a person he didn’t want to greet. At just 12 weeks old, he already weighs 20 pounds and is growing like a weed, so we expect this handsome boy to eventually become a big, beautiful 70-pound companion.Marty and his sister were found wandering in a small Indiana town and were lucky enough to come into rescue rather than face an already overcrowded shelter. He is now thriving in his foster home, where he has other dogs to keep him company and a newly retired foster mom who is thoroughly enjoying having a front-row seat to all of Marty’s puppy antics. And there are plenty of antics!Marty is playful, curious, affectionate, and full of that irresistible puppy enthusiasm that makes you laugh even when he is getting himself into a little trouble. He loves people and other animals and has that easygoing, friendly nature that is so wonderful about Great Pyrenees. He is still learning that not every human or dog appreciates being greeted with the same level of excitement he brings to the party, but he is a very good student and is learning how to channel all that enthusiasm into appropriate manners. His foster mom, Lisa, describes Marty as a quick and eager learner, and he is already making steady progress with basic commands, leash manners, and crate training. He is also doing very well with his housebreaking and, with another few weeks of consistency and a good routine, should be very close to having it mastered.Marty is going to be an active boy, and we are looking for a family who will enjoy that side of him. He would love people who want to take him along on adventures, continue working with him as he grows, and appreciate the goofy, playful personality that comes with a young Great Pyrenees mix. He would also be very happy having another dog around to play with and learn from.As he matures, Marty will develop into a gorgeous semi-long-haired dog — fluffy enough to have that unmistakable Pyr look, but not quite as heavily coated as some Great Pyrenees. And underneath all that future fluff is a smart, loving boy who is going to make someone an absolutely wonderful lifelong companion.Marty is one of those puppies who is going to grow up before you know it. Today he is a big, goofy puppy with oversized paws and a growing body; tomorrow he will be your 70-pound best friend who believes every day should include some fun, some adventure, and plenty of time with his people.Marty is ready for his forever home now in the Tennessee area. For adopters in the Northeast, he has a spot available on the September 11th transport if he is pre-adopted.If Marty sounds like the big-hearted, active, slightly goofy puppy you've been waiting for, email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.
