Story
We would like to welcome Thelma to the CHS family. Coming to the shelter as a stray we don't really know to much about her history. We are guessing that she is about 3 years old. She is going to need to be the only dog in the home, as she does not like to share her humans with other dogs. She is dog social but does not like to have dogs come running up into her face if she is being loved on by her people. The home we are looking for must have experience with this giant breed, they must understand that she is weighing right around 125lbs right now, but needs to put a little weight on still. They must understand how expensive it will be to care for and feed this wonderful girl. She is so very very sweet and so loving. If you are interested in meeting this girl we ask that you please email adoption@columbiahumane.org in order to obtain an adoption application. Once you have an approved application on file we will then schedule a meet and greet for you to come and meet her. We ask that you please DO NOT call the shelter for further information, email is our prefered way of communication. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email adoption@columbiahumane.orgApril 20, 2024, 6:16 am

Story
Winnie, a 1 year old Great Pyrenees and German Shepherd mix, is looking for a new home. Sadly, she keeps wandering off to visit the neighbors even though the owners have tried everything to keep her at home, she seems to find a way through or over the fence and they just can't stop her. She's very sweet and loves the kids she lives with and everyone else she meets, but she needs a fenced yard that can actually contain her so she's not wandering off. She does need spayed and that will be included in her adoption donation. While she has never been a 'house dog' she does not have accidents in the garage where she is kept overnight but waits until released to take care of business so it's probable that she would do the same if kept in the house. Since she is a GP mix she would probably do well guarding the yard from intruders such as squirrels and other critters, but would not be a good fit for a yard with free-roaming chickens and has been known to chase cats. If you have a secure yard and are interested in meeting this sweet girl please fill out an adoption application (no cost or obligation to you) on our website and we'll set up a connection with the owner. Her adoption donation will be $300 and will include her spay.April 22, 2024, 6:03 pm

Story
APPA, a 1 yr old Great Pyrenees, is a sweetheart, lets the toddler use him for a pillow so he's good with small children, if the toddler is using him for a pillow he will lay there until the toddler gets up and will only move his head during that time. But he tends to bark if left alone in the house and at 120 pounds is very loud. He does need neutered yet and that will be included in his adoption donation of $350. He's house trained and knows basic commands and is crate trained. Appa loves to play and will chase his toy if it's thrown for about ten minutes straight and then is ready to lay down for a nap. He's up to date on his shots. Appa likes other dogs, but will bark at dogs that are walking by. He will chase cats, not sure what he'd do if he caught one. If you are interested in meeting Appa to see if he'd be a good fit for your family please fill out an application on our website (no cost or obligation to you) and we'll connect you with his owners.April 22, 2024, 6:03 pm
