Story
Shiloh is a 4-year-old Newfoundland mix with Great Pyrenees. We inherited Shiloh from our brother-in-law, who passed away in the Spring. When she was in North Carolina, she was mostly an outside dog, roaming in a fenced backyard, and slept inside. She has been an inside dog since we had her in May of this year and goes on a daily 30-minute walk. Unfortunately, we are not able to dedicate the time and energy to provide the training she needs to correct some of the negative behaviors, mostly resource guarding, which results in being aggressive toward our other dogs. We have a 10-year-old and 2 other dogs. Shiloh is also reactive toward large trucks and other dogs during walks. Having said that, we are really sad to rehome her because she has a very sweet personality when she is not acting up. She is crate trained (needs a sturdy crate) and house trained. We believe that with the right environment and training, she is going to be an excellent pet.

**Tune in to our Facebook page (Great Pyrenees Rescue Society - GPRS) every Sunday at 3pm CT to see our dogs LIVE!  You can also find previous episodes on our YouTube channel (@gprspyrs). If you would like a specific dog to be featured on our show, please email us at info@greatpyreneesrescuesociety.org**.  Hi there! I’m Brock—part Newfoundland, part Great Pyrenees, and 100% committed to being the biggest goofball in your life. Imagine if a teddy bear and a throw rug got together and decided to live their best life as a dog—that’s me! If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’ll greet you like you’re a rock star every time you walk through the door (even if you just went to get the mail), then we might be soulmates. That said, I’m a mellow kind of guy—never one to jump up on you, unless of course you count jumping into your heart with my big soulful eyes and silly grin. I was born around October 2019 and my core interests include: walking at a polite pace, collecting belly rubs like Pokémon cards, and rolling in the grass like it’s my personal spa treatment. I’m the kind of dog who will occasionally plant a soft smooch on your hand just to remind you that I adore you—and also that my belly is still, somehow, not being rubbed. I dabble in fetch, but let’s not pretend I’m out here chasing trophies—I’ll trot after a toy to humor you, bring it back once or twice to be polite, and then stare deep into your soul until you abandon all plans and just rub my belly. Fair warning: I smile like a dork when you do. It's my thing. And treats? I accept them like a Victorian duke—delicately, with a look of mild surprise and refined gratitude. I’m the ultimate fan of low-drama living—no other dogs, no cats plotting my demise, and definitely no sticky-fingered toddlers trying to ride me like a pony. I’ve got a lot of love to give, but I prefer to give it all to you. I’m ready for a peaceful, happy home where I can be spoiled just a little (okay, a lot). So—belly rubs at your place or mine? Story
Let me introduce you to a warm, gentle soul we call Barley. He has eyes that quietly say “tell me all about it, I’m here to listen.” And his presence is just as comforting. He can come off a touch shy when you first meet him, some of that is because he isn’t clamoring for your attention, but the truth is he is taking slow and observing. I felt like I immediately understood his energy and met him there, sitting on the ground with him and while I sweet talked him he slowly melted into leaning on me in a way that felt like a gentle hug. He is a quiet presence like a long-time best friend and has all the traits of an adoring, loyal dog. Lucky for you he is available for adoption and ready to come home. Take a look then come back to read more- It’s no surprise, my favorite thing about Barley is how easy his company is. Slow and steady in every area, whether it is with people, on-leash for a walk, with dogs, or meeting our house cat. His demeanor and look lead us to believe he is an Anotolian shepherd mix, approximately 1.5 years old and he currently weighs 51 lbs, Breed and age are details we cannot offer 100% certainty on given the nature of him being a rescue . He may grow a smidge more but we believe he is essentially his full grown size- perfectly midsize in our opinion. Initially, we thought Barley may not be interested in other dogs because of his shy approach but we were quickly shown otherwise. As we introduced him to female on-leash, it was easy to see that he felt very comfortable with her. His tail was wagging and his body was soft and welcoming. With each additional dog he continued to show us a polite approach and an easy-going nature, no matter the size or gender of the dogs. He did really gravitate towards a larger male in a very loving way, almost like the protector energy of this dog was familiar. Although we have not seen a bouncy, playful side, we anticipate as he settles in and builds connections with dogs, we will see that side of him emerge. In addition to being dog friendly, Barley was respectful with our resident house cat. His approach was cautious and almost avoidant but before long the cat was laying nearby and he moved on in a way that showed he was not fixated or concerned with the cat. From what we saw Barley would make a peaceful addition to a home with feline friends. Barley would easily live in a home with a yard to stretch those legs, feel the sun and enjoy the breeze but he has potential for apartment life. With a quiet presence and a wonderful mid-size frame, with growing leash skills, apartments are a possibility but because of his current shyness he may need some sweet talk and treats to build confidence in busy areas. But given his age and approach to new experiences we have confidence that with time and understanding, Barley will transition smoothly into a variety of homes. A house with a yard is always wonderful but above all Barley is looking for a loving home, regular walks, a easy-going doggie companion or two, maybe even a feline friend… he is ready to quietly take on discovering the world with you by his side. If you can guard that gentle, sweet heart, he promises to help calm you from whatever the day could throw at you, fill you up with love, sweetness and loyalty in return. Looks, charm, and a golden-good heart, that’s Barley and he is ready and available to be your dream boy! Questions? Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission! What my friends at OHS say about me: My name is Qistibi (though some of my favorite people also call me Glacier). I've been spending the last fwe months in a foster home, and I've grown into a confident, playful, affectionate dog! It can take me a little time to get comfortable with new people, but once I see that I can trust you, I'll show you why all the staff and volunteers love me.I love cuddling, zooming around the backyard, looking out the window with my dog sister and eating tasty treats! Things I don't like include scary vacuums, lawn mowers and other loud noises. I will need to meet any canine companions prior to getting adopted. To learn more about my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout. The type of home I'm looking for: I must go to a home with a fenced in yard and a low traffic neighborhood. It could be with you! Click here to learn about the adoption process. Primary Color: White Weight: 86 Age: 8yrs 2mths 1wks
