Story
Meet Teddy & Tilly ❤️ Teddy and Tilly are an inseparable pair of 8 year old brown Newfoundlands looking for a very special forever home together. These two sweet Newfys came into rescue after spending much of the past three years living outdoors, including a period of significant neglect. Despite everything they have experienced, they have retained the wonderful, gentle Newfoundland temperament the breed is known for. Most importantly, they have each other. Their bond is incredibly strong. Tilly often looks to Teddy for reassurance, and when she feels uncertain or skittish, she will move close to his side. Teddy, in turn, seems comforted by having Tilly nearby. After developing such a strong social bond through difficult circumstances, they truly are a package deal and will need to be adopted together. They are now safe in foster care and beginning to discover what life can be like when they are treated with patience, kindness, and love. Teddy is a gentle, affectionate boy who weighs about 90 pounds. When he was rescued, he was almost completely matted and needed to be shaved down. His beautiful coat will take several months to grow back, so he currently needs a coat to help keep him warm. As is sadly common with aging large breed dogs, Teddy is experiencing some changes in his gait, but is under the care of a veterinary team to help. This big boy has a very sweet way of showing affection. He likes to burrow his head into you, as though he is saying thank you for being kind to him. He also enjoys gentle belly rubs. Tilly is a beautiful girl who weighs about 123 pounds and is currently working on a healthy weight loss plan. She needed only a partial shave and was able to keep most of her lovely coat. She has some dental disease, but she is currently able to eat kibble. Tilly can be a little skittish at times and finds comfort staying close to Teddy. She often follows his lead and clearly feels safer with him nearby. Once she feels comfortable, Tilly enjoys gentle human attention and may offer a couple of very sweet dog kisses as her way of saying hello. What we have learned so far: Although these two spent much of their recent lives outdoors, they have shown some encouraging signs that they may be able to transition to being indoor dogs with patient training and consistency. They did wonderfully during their van ride to foster care. Once inside the home, they were eager to explore and immediately ventured beyond the sunroom into the rest of the house. No accidents have occurred so far, although their previous owner reported that Tilly had urinated on an area rug. House training is therefore still under evaluation, and she will continue to have opportunities to practice being indoors. Their comfort with crates is also under evaluation. Because of Teddy's hind end weakness, transportation will need some consideration. He cannot currently get into a sedan, and it would be difficult for Tilly as well. A van with a low floorboard has worked well for both of them. At this stage, they appear most comfortable with access to a smaller, securely fenced outdoor area and a large doghouse they can share. With time, patience, and appropriate training, their foster family will continue learning about them and their likes and dislikes. Their have yet to be around children, as there aren't any in their foster home. They have had several days to decompress and settle into foster care, and further observation will help us better understand what type of family environment will be the best fit for them- as we learn how they are w dogs, cats, kids, other dogs, crate and house training. If you have room in your heart and home for two gentle Newfys who are just beginning their next chapter, Teddy and Tilly would love to meet you.

Story
FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED Meet Ninja! Ninja is a 1.5-year-old, 75 lb Newfoundland/Border Collie mix who came to us as a stray from an overcrowded shelter. This big, fluffy boy is equal parts lovable goofball and loyal companion, with a personality that’s guaranteed to make you smile—especially when he’s walking around with his tongue hanging out and his trademark goofy grin! Ninja is sweet, affectionate, and forms strong bonds with his people. He enjoys spending time with his people and underneath all that fluff is a sensitive, intelligent dog who is still learning about the world and looking for someone willing to help guide him. As you might expect from a dog of his size, Ninja is strong and will need an adopter who can comfortably handle a large dog. He would benefit from continued training and basic obedience work to help him build confidence and develop good manners. He’s eager to connect with his people and will thrive with consistent structure and guidance. Ninja can do well with other dogs but prefers slower introductions and generally gets along best with calmer, more laid-back canine companions. He’s still figuring out how to play appropriately and can become vocal, growly, or reactive on leash when he gets overstimulated or excited. Because of this, we’re looking for a confident, experienced handler who can help him continue building social skills and navigate the world successfully. He could potentially live with another well-matched dog, but he could also thrive as an only dog provided he receives continued socialization and plenty of engagement with his people. Due to his size, energy, and training needs, Ninja is looking for a standalone home with a securely fenced yard. Apartments and condos are not a good fit for him. He would likely be happiest in a quieter area outside the hustle and bustle of busy city life where he can relax, decompress, and enjoy a little more space. As a long-coated breed mix, Ninja will also need a family committed to keeping up with regular grooming and coat maintenance to keep him looking and feeling his best. If you’re looking for a big-hearted, fluffy best friend with a goofy personality and lots of potential, Ninja might just be your perfect match! Ninja is UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $500.

Story
FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED: Meet Koda! He is one of our long-timers and has been waiting with us for 3 years for his forever family! ❤️ He is a very smart, goofy and athletic 70lb, ~4 year-old pup with lots of playful energy. He loves to play fetch so he definitely is a Retriever mix - he looks like a large, black golden Retriever mix - but also has strong guard-dog characteristics and is part Newfoundland. He's not a herder or chaser - he does not seem interested in running off, or chasing bunnies, squirrels or bikes, though cats are afraid of him (and probably should be). He knows basic commands (sit, down, wait, stay, leave it, come, play, ball, food, etc) and learns new things incredibly fast. He loves playing with dogs, but plays quite physically vs chasing them. Koda is happiest when playing ball or when in close proximity of his one 'person'. He's loving and affectionate with 'his person' but being part of a busy family where people are coming and going is challenging for him. He will do best with a single, experienced dog owner, who has the physical space (aka yard/rural vs a townhome in a city), time, patience and energy to work with him. Koda will benefit from structure, stability and exercise - He loves to play and learns very fast. Koda is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. His adoption fee is $400.
