Meet Big Bear, a glorious, sweet, gentle giant who wants nothing more than good, healthy meals, pets and scratches... and a good brushing every now and then.
This handsome beast showed up at a feral cat colony, dirty and scruffy, and would run to greet his feeder, clear across the parking lot... even trying to climb into her car.
We don't know his story but it's obvious he's had to defend himself out there... being an un-neutered male. Unsterilized males are at the highest risk of contracting FIV (like HIV in humans, not AIDS). Today, during his neuter surgery, we had him combo-tested for FIV/FeLV and it came back positive for FIV.
For this reason, I'm listing him a "special needs" - although there's no reason why he can't live a long, happy life... and doesn't need to be sequestered from other cats. FIV is typically transferred in utero - from a positive female OR through deep bite wounds - while battling over females and territory.
Bear has shown no signs of aggressive behavior, whatsoever. He's truly just a big TEDDY BEAR wanting love.
You'll find his complete rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #31 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" as well as video updates... along with updates on ALL our adoptable cats and kittens. *Be sure to check out his adoption video uploaded here!
