Story
Sarge is a tiny 10-pound Papillon/Chihuahua mix with a fluffy coat, a gentle soul, and a future that is just beginning to unfold. At just 1–2 years old, he has already overcome a difficult start in life after being rescued from a massive hoarding and breeding situation where more than 190 dogs were removed. For much of his early life, Sarge knew very little about kindness or human connection. When Sarge first entered foster care, he was frightened and unsure of the world around him. Thanks to the patience and love of his foster mom, he has made beautiful progress. Each day brings more curiosity, more trust, and more confidence. Watching him discover what it means to be safe and loved has been incredibly rewarding. Sarge is learning that people can be wonderful. He now adores lap time, soaking up attention, and being someone’s special little guy. While he still needs time to fully trust and build confidence, his potential is undeniable. With consistency, reassurance, and positive experiences, this boy is going to absolutely shine. We believe Sarge would thrive with a committed adopter who understands that confidence is built step by step. Regular walks and a securely fenced yard would help him continue gaining independence and courage. He would do best in a home with older children or adults who can give him the time and structure he needs. Sarge is crate trained and totally housebroken. He loves to go for walks on a leash and we feel that a fenced yard and another confident dog to be his mentor and best friend would be the best home setting for him. He is a beautiful work in progress, and the joy will be in watching him become the more confident, happy dog he was always meant to be — just a little delayed by circumstances beyond his control.
