Story
Looking for a best friend with a little sass, a lot of sweetness, and an adventurous spirit? Say hello to Jazzie! This darling Parson Russell Terrier mix has had a few bumps along the road, but thanks to some very loving people, those days are behind her. Now Jazzie has discovered that life can be pretty wonderful, and she’s ready to enjoy every minute of it with a family of her very own! Jazzie may be a little shy when you first meet her, but give this sweet girl a little time and you’ll discover the affectionate, happy pup hiding just beneath the surface. Once she decides you’re one of her people, get ready, because you’ll have a loyal best friend, enthusiastic sidekick, and adventure buddy all rolled into one adorable little package. And don't be surprised if she seals the deal with a smooch or two! Jazzie is spayed, vaccinated, comfortable with other dogs, and would happily share her home with canine companions. She could be a wonderful match for a single person, couple, or family with older kids who will appreciate her lively spirit and give her the love she deserves. Whether you’re heading out for a hike, taking a neighborhood stroll, hopping in the car for your next adventure, or just hanging out together at home, Jazzie would love nothing more than to be right there beside you. She’s sweet, sassy, affectionate, and just enough of a “life of the party” to keep you smiling. Jazzie has been waiting for someone special to choose her. Maybe she’s been waiting for you. Come meet this darling girl and give her a chance to work a little Jazzie magic on your heart.

Story
Princess' original owner is an unhoused, young woman who is currently in a care program that does not allow dogs. I accepted Princess in the hopes we could find a foster home for her while her owner completes the program. After 6 weeks of searching, we have not found a foster home and the owner has agreed that the best solution is to permanently rehome Princess. We both will miss Princess terribly but neither of us are in the position to give her the home she needs. Princess is a very sweet, and affectionate young dog. She is well behaved, gets along with my little dog, Bo. and is eager to play with every dog she meets. She likes long walks and loves going to the dog park where she can run and play with other dogs. She is content in her crate when home alone but prefers to be close to me when I am home, often resting at my feet while I am working at my desk. Princess will make a wonderful pet and companion to some lucky adoptive parent/s.

Adoption fee: $650 Gracie: Amazing Cuddles, Occasional Sock Heists Age: 6 monthsWeight: 11 lbsBreed: Terrier mixCoat: Low to moderate shedding Gracie has two settings: “Let’s get this party started” and “Please rub my belly.” This 6 month old Terrier mix was rescued from a shelter, and she’s making the most of her new life with zoomies, doggy friendships, and a very enthusiastic morning kissing routine. At just 11 pounds, she fits beautifully beside you on the couch—and somehow manages to fit an impressive amount of personality into that little body. Part Puppy, Part Professional Snuggler Feeling playful? Gracie is ready for toys, tug-of-war, and a spirited romp with a canine buddy. She had a wonderful time playing with her fellow foster dog, Chalupa, with the two enjoying wrestling sessions before collapsing for a well-earned nap. Fetch remains a mysterious concept, but borrowing a slipper or sock? That she understands perfectly. She generally carries off her prize rather than destroying it, apparently subscribing to the philosophy that the fun is in the heist. When the festivities are over, Gracie becomes a devoted cuddle companion. She loves curling up beside her person for belly rubs and affection. She sleeps on her foster’s bed through the night, waits for her person to stir in the morning, and then gets to work delivering kisses. Her foster’s favorite thing about her is this sweet morning ritual—and it’s easy to see why. She’s clever, too. Gracie mastered the stairs to the bed almost immediately and once squeezed through a tiny opening in a crate. A comfortable destination and a little determination can take this girl far! A Little Dog with Excellent House Manners Gracie starts her day around 6 a.m. with a potty outing and walk, followed by breakfast. She sometimes prefers to graze, although she’s becoming more consistent about eating her morning meal. Her housetraining has been outstanding: she has not had a single accident in her foster home. Her future family should continue giving her regular potty breaks, but she already has a terrific foundation. While her foster is at work, Gracie stays in the bedroom. She may whine or give a few barks when her person leaves, then settles down and spends much of the day sleeping on the bed. After work, she’s ready for another walk, some playtime, and an evening of couch cuddles. She can spend time in a crate, although she needs time to settle and currently sleeps in bed with her foster. As a young puppy, she has occasionally sampled a pillow corner or coffee table, so appropriate chew toys and gentle redirection will help her through this stage. Making Friends—and Learning How to Say Hello Gracie enjoys people and other dogs once she has had a comfortable introduction. At the DPS Safehouse, she has done well off leash with dogs and has also been around the resident cat. During one visit, she initially barked at a larger dog, then happily enjoyed that dog’s company once they had space to sniff and greet. She also climbed onto a 10-year-old boy’s chest, settled in, and licked his chin. Clearly, she takes making new friends very personally. She has also behaved nicely during visits to work, someone else’s home, and restaurants, including an outing with other dogs. Her Next Assignment: Leash Skills Gracie’s biggest challenge is her reaction to people and dogs on neighborhood and park walks. She can bark intensely and pull hard, even when she would ultimately like to make friends. She now walks in a harness, and her adopter will need to commit to patient, consistent training to help her walk comfortably and see others without getting so worked up. Calm introductions have helped her in several settings, but ongoing work on her leash reactions will be an essential part of her adoption. She also has opinions about hallway noises, passing people, and delivery trucks, which she announces with barking. Families in apartments or condos should consider how that may fit their surroundings. Gracie’s Kind of Family Gracie could thrive in a variety of homes with people who enjoy both puppy play and serious snuggle time. Another friendly, playful dog could be a wonderful match, and her affectionate interaction with a 10-year-old suggests she could enjoy a family with respectful children. Above all, she needs adopters who will embrace the training that comes with a bright young dog. Gracie brings the affection, the humor, and the excellent morning kisses. Her family’s job is to help her turn all that enthusiasm into good manners—and keep an eye on their slippers. October 8, 2026, 11:46 pm

Story
Meet Hunter Hunter is a 3-year-old, 22-pound Jack Russell Terrier mix who was saved by Umbrella of Hope just in time. The shelter environment was simply too much for him, and he began shutting down almost immediately. But within just 24 hours of leaving the shelter, Hunter started showing us a completely different dog. He is still cautious at first, especially with unfamiliar people, loud noises, and sudden movements, but give him a little time and he warms up beautifully. Dogs, on the other hand? Hunter LOVES them and seems to gain confidence from having canine friends around. He walks well on leash, enjoys exploring, and is already making great progress with potty training—even though he has only been in foster care for a couple of days. He is also starting to learn basic commands and clearly enjoys having someone show him what is expected. It appears Hunter may have spent quite a bit of time surviving as a stray. Treats, tricks, leash walking, and basic household routines all seemed unfamiliar to him at first, but he is catching on quickly and genuinely seems eager to please. Hunter is proving to be all bark and no bite. He may bark when excited or while playing with dog friends, but he has shown no aggression, no resource guarding, no destructive behavior, and no significant behavioral concerns beyond the usual energetic, vocal Jack Russell tendencies. Because he is still learning to feel safe and can be startled by sudden movements, we think Hunter would do best in a calm home without young children. What Hunter really needs now is consistency, patience, basic training, and someone willing to keep showing him how good life can be. He is already discovering soft beds, regular meals, walks, playtime, affection, and the simple luxury of being safe. And he is loving every minute of it. Hunter is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and free of parasites. This little guy has all the potential in the world to become an absolutely phenomenal companion. He just needs someone willing to help him finish the transformation he has already started. Please email beourpet@gmail.com with any questions or to learn more about Hunter.     GENERAL INFO:   Housebroken?: Yes, we think so Crate Trained?: Yes Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No Good with cats?: unknown Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: Regular adoption fee Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 10 Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.  Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee.
