She’s a joyful bundle of energy who comes rushing in with kisses and cuddles, eager to share her love. It’s clear she was cherished in her previous home, and that same happy, affectionate spirit shines through in everything she does. Darling Jazz is spayed, vaccinated, and ready for a fresh start in a wonderful new chapter of her life. She’s comfortable with other dogs and would happily fit into a multi-dog household. My name is Jill and I just made my debut at SVACA. I`m an energetic girl who loves to run around with my humans, play with doggy toys, and generally be a goofball! Spunk is a COMPLETE sweetheart. He can be shy at first when he first meets people and may yield a  submissive wee.  Once he realizes you are safe, all he wants to do is love you and give you kisses. H e loves scritches and pets. When he’s comfortable, he will follow you around and lie against you. He wants as much attention as he can get, but on his terms.  Energy Level? Low/Medium House trained?  Yes. Just watch him closely the first few days. In a new place, he will want to mark. Once he is comfortable and feels safe, the marking went away completely.   Describe how they are on a leash?  We are still working on leash training. At first, he did the alligator roll when he felt the slightest tug on the leash, but after just a few days, he no longer does this, and will walk well short distances. It will take no time at all for him to be comfortable going on long walks. He loves to be outside! Describe how they are with other dogs? Spunk is a happy-go-lucky pup and loves to hang out with and initiate play with other dogs.  If a dog shows that he/she is not interested, then  Spunk  just walks away politely. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they? NA Commands they know? Sit What are their favorite things? Being by their person. Food motivated What do they need to work on? Submissive peeing, being handled.  Walking on a leash for longer periods of time. He is also very shy around new people, so you need to go slow until trust is established. How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone? Spunk is fine being left alone. He has been left alone for about 5-6 hrs. Where do they sleep? In a crate or on a dog bed What is their ideal home?  Spunk would do well in any home with or without other dog(s).  He would prefer to be in a house with someone around most of the time, but I think he would be able to adjust to a full-time working family, too.  Spunk may need a bit of time to adjust. Story
Cleo is a one-eyed wonder and has completely forgotten about losing an eye in a dog attack.  Agile and athletic, Cleo is a 12 lb., 2 yr-old Terrier mix and displays Terrier behavior such as loving to play with toys, loving to go for long walks and is inquisitive about anything new in her world. Cleo came from a situation where she was under-socialized and displays fearful behavior. We are working on behavior training and she is becoming much calmer.  Little Cleo is potty trained with regular potty breaks.   Cleo is a one or 2 person dog, and makes friends with new people very slowly. She lives OK with a companion dog, and an ocassiional dog visitor, but we think she would prefer to be an only dog in her future home. Due to her young age and training, Cleo will age into a proper little companion. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Cleo is $300. Blackjack loves the simple masterpieces in life: fresh air, rambling strolls, good dog friends, and anyone willing to offer a scratch behind the ears. He’s as down-to-earth as a well-worn sketchbook and just as full of character. Easygoing, affectionate, and always ready to pose for his next “portrait,” Blackjack is the kind of companion who turns everyday moments into small works of art. Ready to bring a little country-chic inspiration home? Blackjack is your muse. Here's some notes from his foster: Blackjack has been an absolute dream. He is the perfect amount of energy and a couch potato. He is excited for walks and follows me around the house, but when I settle into the couch, he just lies at my feet on the rug. He knows the command of sit, and I am suspicious that he knows a few more tricks. Blackjack clearly was loved very much in a former home and is just looking for his final forever. Blackjack LOVES people -he wants to greet everyone on the street and did not bark once at people or dogs on our walks. He is a strong, high energy (especially for his age), highly affectionate, and very intelligent dog. He follows me around the house and takes every opportunity to snuggle up. He seems very trainable, it only took a couple of times for him to learn to go up and down the staircase and to not follow me into the bathroom. Blackjack is an active boy carrying a cheerful and happy energy. He is also able to chill when he sees me busy and not paying attention to him (i.e., work from home). He is potty-trained and will just wait by the front door when he has to go out. He slept on my bed at my feet and did not bother me at all in the night. He can't seem to jump very well, but will gladly be picked up to join the party. He does not seem interested in toys. Eating-wise, he has an amazing appetite and will scarf down his food quickly. He seems very food motivated, but will not steal your food unless offered. He can easily jump up onto the couch and bed. Butt scratches are his favorite thing. As far as fetch he likes to chase something that is thrown but can't quite figure out how to bring it back. He gets a little excited when we see other dogs on walks but as soon as they walk away or is redirected he doesn’t fixate and moves on easily.
