Story
BJ is currently heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment. He will need to return to NMDR for his scheduled care, and adopters must be committed to strictly following the treatment plan as outlined by NMDR veterinarians to ensure his full recovery. Meet BJ, a 5-year-old, 18-pound Bichon Frise who is a bit timid and nervous around new people and new situations. BJ is still learning that the world is a safe place, and he needs a calm, patient adopter who is willing to go at his pace as he builds trust and confidence. With consistency, reassurance, and gentle handling, he has the potential to continue making progress and feel more secure over time. BJ would benefit from a committed adopter who understands the importance of slow, steady trust-building. Having another calm, confident canine companion in the home may help him feel more comfortable and assist in his adjustment process. BJ also needs a fenced in yard as he continues to work on his leash walking skills. A meet-and-greet at the shelter is required to ensure it is a good fit and to set BJ up for the best possible transition into a patient, understanding home. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Meet Millie! Millie is an 8-year-old Lhasa Apso weighing 20 pounds. This shy but sweet girl is looking for a quiet, patient home where she can settle in at her own pace and enjoy all the comforts of family life—especially a cozy, soft bed to call her own. Millie would thrive in a calm environment with adopters who understand that trust takes time and are happy to let her come out of her shell when she feels ready. She may also do best in a home with another friendly dog who can provide companionship and help her feel more comfortable as she adjusts to her new surroundings. With patience and kindness, Millie is sure to become a wonderful companion. Millie also requires a securely fenced yard where she can safely enjoy time outdoors. Millie has been treated at NMDR for chronic ear infections. Her future family will need to continue regular ear cleanings and work closely with their primary veterinarian to help keep her ears healthy and comfortable. A required in-person meet and greet at our shelter is part of the adoption process to help ensure a good fit for both Millie and her potential adopters. Millie is ready to find a loving forever home where she can enjoy a peaceful life, a warm bed, and a family that will give her the patience, care, and love she deserves. ------ Many NMDR dogs have had limited prior socialization and may need time, patience, and support as they adjust to home life. Skills such as house training, leash walking, and handling may require continued practice. Progress will vary by individual dog. Homes with older children are often a good fit, depending on temperament. To learn more about NMDR and our adoption process, please visit our website.

Story
Updated Bio! Meet Tracey! Tracey is a 9-year-old, 20-pound Bichon Frise with a soft, gentle presence and a quietly sweet personality. She is still building confidence and can be shy in new environments, taking her time to feel safe and secure. With patience and a calm approach, she gradually begins to show her affectionate, tender nature. Tracey does well in playgroup and benefits from the comfort and guidance of other dogs. A confident canine companion in the home is required to help her continue building confidence and feel more secure as she adjusts. Tracey has several ongoing medical considerations, including lenticular sclerosis, allergies, obesity, and narrowed ear canals in both ears that may require routine monitoring and care. Her adopter should be prepared to support ongoing veterinary care. Our team would be happy to discuss her medical needs in more detail with interested adopters. She is looking for a calm, patient home that can move at her pace and provide structure, reassurance, and consistency. A required in-person meet and greet at our shelter is part of the adoption process to help ensure a good fit for both Tracey and her potential adopters. With time, patience, and kindness, Tracey continues to show she can blossom into a deeply loyal and loving companion. She is looking for a family who will appreciate her gentle spirit and give her the loving forever home she deserves.
