Story
Please say hello to Gremmy. This 3-year-old, 14-pound Pekingese is leaving her puppy mill past behind and looking forward to a future filled with kindness, comfort, and love. Gremmy can be a little nervous when meeting new people, but underneath that timid exterior is a very sweet girl who doesn't mind being carried or gently handled. She recently received a much-needed haircut after her coat became neglected, so she's sporting a shorter style for now—but don't worry, her beautiful coat will grow back with time and regular grooming. Her future family should be committed to keeping up with her grooming needs so she always feels her best. Gremmy is open to meeting other dogs, can be cat tested if needed, and would likely do well with respectful, gentle children who understand she may need a little time to build confidence. If you're looking for a sweet companion who deserves a fresh start, Gremmy is ready to begin her next chapter with you. Apply at lvpeaceablekingdom.info. Story
Say hello to Chewie! We're told this adorable 4-year-old, 19-pound pup is a Pekingese mix, but if you ask us, he looks a lot like a Spitz!.Whatever his breed, one thing is certain—he's ridiculously cute! Chewie came to us after his owner passed away and previously lived in a home with 12 dogs, so he's happy to have canine friends around. He can be a little scared while in his kennel, but the moment he's outside, his true personality shines. He's incredibly friendly, loves human attention, and is happiest soaking up cuddles from anyone willing to give them. Chewie will need regular grooming to keep him looking his fluffy best, gets along great with other dogs, can be cat tested if needed, and would likely do well with children. If you're looking for a lovable little shadow with a face that's impossible to resist, Chewie is ready to meet you. Apply at lvpeaceablekingdom.info. Story
Say hi to Sir Floorfington! This 1-year-old Pekingese/Chihuahua mix may have a royal name, but he's more interested in ruling your lap than a kingdom. Weighing 16 pounds, Sir Floorfington came to us after his owner passed away. He previously lived in a home with 12 dogs, so he's no stranger to canine company and gets along well with other dogs. This happy little ham loves being the center of attention, is always up for cuddles, and has plenty of playful energy to burn as he zooms around the yard. He seems to keep his crate clean, would likely do well with children, and can be cat tested if needed. If you're looking for a fun-loving sidekick with a big personality and an even bigger desire to be wherever you are, Sir Floorfington is ready to claim his throne in your home. Story
Yo-Yo has had a rough few weeks since coming to us but is finally starting to relax. This 3 year old was surrendered because he was being left along 14+ hours a day and no one had any time for him. He had a cherry eye and matted dreadlocks hanging from him, and was terrified and clearly not used to much handling. He’s never been on a leash (or when he was something bad definitely happened) and absolutely HATES them- as soon as he even sees a leash coming near him he instantly panics and try to bite to get it off of him. Without the leash he lets us pick him up easily and dances around for attention. He had a cherry eye repair and wasn’t happy about the cone on his neck or the vet staff or us trying to do eye drops while he was recovering, but now all has been forgiven since he is recovered. But he’s not the type of dog that really wants any one in his face too much or picking at him and will probably need sleepytime meds for grooming in the future. He seems to be some kind of Maltese/peke/Shih Tzu mix, under 15lbs and not a completely nonshedding coat so at least he doesn’t have to be groomed quite as often. He likes other dogs and follows them in and out of the fenced yard easily; while we don’t require it for all dogs, little Yo-Yo definitely needs offense due to his intense dislike of leashes at this point. He’s looking for an adult home that understands weird little dogs who don’t want to be messed with and will let him come for attention on his terms. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Yo-Yo in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Milo is a friendly 12 year old surrendered due to his owner's failing health. Sadly, Milo's own health has been neglected for quite a while as well, and he's been suffering from painful itchy skin infections all over his body, ear infections, and untreated chronic dry eye. He's seen our vet for a full work up and is on a regimen of medications, medicated baths, and longterm eye drops and will need someone to stay on top of his treatments longterm so he's not suffering. He looks to be a shih tzu/peke mix as far as we can tell, overweight at 24lbs. He's not happy about being picked up but otherwise a social nice guy, good with other gentle dogs and already feeling better and happier since starting treatment. Please submit an application to meet this sweet senior Primary Color: Tan Age: 12yrs 2mths 1wks
