Story
Yo-Yo has had a rough few weeks since coming to us but is finally starting to relax. This 3 year old was surrendered because he was being left along 14+ hours a day and no one had any time for him. He had a cherry eye and matted dreadlocks hanging from him, and was terrified and clearly not used to much handling. He’s never been on a leash (or when he was something bad definitely happened) and absolutely HATES them- as soon as he even sees a leash coming near him he instantly panics and try to bite to get it off of him. Without the leash he lets us pick him up easily and dances around for attention. He had a cherry eye repair and wasn’t happy about the cone on his neck or the vet staff or us trying to do eye drops while he was recovering, but now all has been forgiven since he is recovered. But he’s not the type of dog that really wants any one in his face too much or picking at him and will probably need sleepytime meds for grooming in the future. He seems to be some kind of Maltese/peke/Shih Tzu mix, under 15lbs and not a completely nonshedding coat so at least he doesn’t have to be groomed quite as often. He likes other dogs and follows them in and out of the fenced yard easily; while we don’t require it for all dogs, little Yo-Yo definitely needs offense due to his intense dislike of leashes at this point. He’s looking for an adult home that understands weird little dogs who don’t want to be messed with and will let him come for attention on his terms. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Yo-Yo in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Meet Frappuccino: Delight and Sweetness Served DailyFrappuccino is a sweet little Pekingese/Shih Tzu mix who is 9 years young and ready to bring a little extra sweetness into your life. She may have a few more special needs than your average pup, but Frappuccino certainly doesn't let that stop her from enjoying the important things in life-especially walks, attention, and being loved!Frappuccino has limited vision and appears to be at least partially, if not fully, deaf. Because of her sensory challenges, she will need a patient, understanding family who is comfortable caring for a special needs senior dog and can help her navigate the world safely and confidently. A calm, low-key household where she can settle into a predictable routine would be ideal.Despite her physical limitations, Frappuccino is still eager to get out for her walks and absolutely soaks up the love and attention she receives from our staff and volunteers. She may experience the world a little differently, but she still has plenty of sweetness to share. If you have the experience, patience, and big heart needed to give a special needs canine the wonderful life she deserves, Frappuccino would love to add a little delight to your home.❤️If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website www.savehomelessanimals.org. PA Kennel License #5254Wags Rescue & ReferralSouthampton Pa 18966 Originated from ACCT KL 08313 Meet Fiddlewig, a Magnificent Mutt with Plenty of Personality Theres something extra special about a senior dog, and Fiddlewig is ready to show someone just how wonderful an older gentleman can be. At 10 years old, this Magnificent Mutt has already lived through more than his fair share of changes, and now he is hoping his next chapter will be the one where he finally gets to relax, feel safe, and be someone's beloved companion. Fiddlewig was pulled from a local shelter after being surrendered along with multiple other dogs from a hoarding situation. We don't know everything about his past, but we do know that his world was turned upside down when he arrived at the shelter. Understandably, Fiddlewig was a little grumbly at first. New places, new people, and so many changes can be a lot for any dog, especially one who has spent his life without the consistency every dog deserves. But heres the wonderful part: Fiddlewig is doing so much better now. Once he realized that the people around him were there to help, not hurt, his sweet personality started to peek through. He is settling in, learning the routine, and showing us that underneath that initial grumble is a pretty lovable guy who simply needed some time to decompress and feel comfortable. Fiddlewig is dog-friendly and enjoys having canine companions around. He doesn't need to be the life of the party, though. At his age, he has perfected the art of appreciating the finer things in life namely, a nice patch of sunshine and a comfortable couch. One of Fiddlewig's favorite pastimes is sunbathing in the yard. Give this handsome senior a little sunshine, and he is perfectly content to stretch out and soak up the rays. When hes finished enjoying the outdoors, he is more than happy to head inside and claim a cozy spot on the couch for a well-earned nap. Honestly, Fiddlewig may have figured out the perfect retirement plan. Fiddlewig does have a few preferences that his future family should understand. He is not a fan of being picked up, so his people will need to respect his boundaries and let him keep his feet firmly on the ground. We think that is a perfectly reasonable request. Fiddlewig would much rather walk over to you for attention than be scooped up, and were happy to let this distinguished gentleman make his own choices. He is also doing well with his house and crate training and continues to make progress as he settles into his new routine. Like any dog who has experienced a major life change, Fiddlewig will do best with a family that understands that trust takes time and that the little victories are worth celebrating. Fiddlewig may be 10, but don't let his age fool you he still has plenty of life, love, naps, sunshine, and couch time left to enjoy. He doesn't need a complicated life. He just needs a safe place to call home, a comfortable couch, some sunshine, and people who will appreciate him for exactly who he is. He may have started out a little grumbly, but Fiddlewig is proving that beneath those initial defenses is a sweet senior simply waiting for someone to give him the chance to feel secure. If you're looking for a laid-back, dog-friendly Magnificent Mutt who is happiest enjoying the sunshine, snoozing on the couch, and taking life at his own pace, Fiddlewig may be the wonderfully quirky old soul you've been waiting for. Story
PA Kennel License #5254Wags Rescue & ReferralSouthampton Pa 18966 Originated from ACCT KL 08313 Meet Moppa A Gentle Soul Who Just Wants to Belong Meet Moppa, a sweet, lovable boy who has been through more change than any dog should have to endure. Estimated to be around 6 years old, Moppa was pulled from a local shelter after being found living with multiple other dogs. Sadly, his owner had passed away, and through no fault of his own, Moppa suddenly found himself without the person and home he knew. Despite everything hes been through, Moppa is still learning to trust that good things are ahead. Now, Moppa may give you a little grumble when you first meet himbut dont let that fool you! Once he realizes youre a friend, that grumbly exterior melts away and he becomes your best buddy. Hes the kind of dog who may need a little time to warm up, but once youve earned his trust, youll have a loyal friend who just wants to be by your side. Moppa absolutely loves other dogs and seems happiest when he has canine company around him. Having spent time with multiple dogs, hes comfortable being part of a pack and enjoys their companionship. Hes also discovering some of the simple joys of being a dog. Moppa is learning how to play with toys, and watching him figure out what all the fun is about is pretty adorable! Give him a little encouragement and hes starting to understand that toys can mean playtime, fun, and maybe even a little mischief. But honestly? One of Moppas favorite activities might just be hanging out on the couch. He is perfectly happy to settle in, get comfortable, and enjoy some quality time with his people. After all the upheaval in his life, theres something especially sweet about seeing him relax and realize he is safe. Moppa is also doing well with his house and crate training, showing that hes ready to keep learning and become the wonderful companion we know he can be. Moppa may not be the dog who runs up to everyone and immediately asks for attention. Hes a boy who likes to take a moment, assess the situation, and decide if youre trustworthy. But once he does? Youve got a friend for life. Hes been through the heartbreaking loss of his person and the uncertainty of shelter life. Now this sweet, slightly grumbly, couch-loving, dog-friendly guy deserves to experience the best part of his story: a forever home. If youre looking for a loyal companion who will happily share the couch, enjoy the company of other dogs, learn alongside you, and eventually become your very best friend, Moppa might be your guy. Sometimes the dogs who need a little patience are the ones who end up giving you the most incredible love. Moppa is ready to find out what forever feels like. Story
If you see this listing, it means Clementine is available for adoption. We take our time to find the ideal match for the Animal Saints we save, as well as for the humans who wish to adopt them.   Backstory for Clementine Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to help with an owner surrender involving several "Imperial" Shih Tzu. Their former person was having emergency medical issues that were life threatening, and they were not well enough to take care of them. Our nonprofit became the safety net for these incredible Shih Tzu.  Our nonprofit is here to help so the Animal Saints do not end up in overcrowded government animal control facilities that euthanize due to lack of space. Clementine recently arrived to our sanctuary to get all of the medical care she needs. Now that we have gotten to know her personality and she has shown us what she needs in a family, she is ready to be placed in her lifetime home. We look forward to finding out who this will be!  Get to Know Clementine age: 3-4 breed: Shih Tzu weight:  7.5 pounds Vaccines:  Rabies  DHPP Bordetella  Corona/flu  Other Tests and Procedures:  Spayed in June, 2026 Snap 4Dx test (passed and tested negative for heart worm, lyme, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis)   Dental cleaning in June, 2026  Bloodwork June, 2026 - Numbers within normal ranges and nothing concerning.  Additional procedures and treatments:  • Microchipped • Fecal test, negative • Flea/tick preventive treatment, heart worm prevention, and dewormer  • First positive reinforcement training sessions  • Several baths and grooms   A good health certificate will be provided with her medical records. Requested adoption donation fee is only $800. This is to partly cover the costs of care that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue has incurred. On average, Animal Saints’ cost to save a life through our nonprofit exceeds $2,000 per Saint. We do our best to keep our adoption requests as reasonable as possible to encourage more people to adopt.   Breed and Hair Notes  Clementine has hair and not fur. She is a very rare "Imperial" Shih Tzu with liver and cream hues. She is full grown and tiny. Some are guessing she has a bit of Pekingese in the mix. Whatever she is, she's amazing and one-of-a-kind.  PLEASE NOTE: Clementine’s hair will grow as it is not fur. She will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Clementine is terrific for baths and grooming. She’s had a few since arriving. She was frightened at first, but now she loves the attention. An adopter who loves to maintain her longer hair is an ideal match.  Personality Clementine is incredibly sweet but incredibly shy. Once she trusts someone, her loyalty, love, and exuberance for life is so impressive and moving. Her eagerness to connect is there, but please note that this connection will take time. It’s possible that it will take a least a couple of visits to our sanctuary before she connects with her new person. If you are an empathetic soul and can completely understand that this will take time with her personality, please keep reading.  It appears that Clementine has not met very many people in her life. She is under socialized and skittish. Because of it, she is a flight risk. Only very securely fenced-in yards will be accepted for her. Do not plan to take her for a walk safely until you’ve completed all of your training classes. She is just getting comfortable being outside; she’s not yet ready for leashed walking. In time, we can see her potentially enjoying it. But it will take time and patience to allow her to gain confidence.  If you live in an urban setting and fall in love with Clementine, please note that it will take weeks and even months before she is comfortable with the sights and sounds of city life. With a very experienced adopter, this could be possible. But we do believe she will be much calmer and happier in a quieter setting.  Clementine gravitates toward hanging out with her sister (from a different litter) named Marigold. She also loves the more laidback matriarchs here in the sanctuary. Clementine learns from the more outgoing Animal Saints here, and she gains confidence by watching them. With this in mind, we see her thriving in a home with other small dogs. In a home as an only dog, the confidence building will take much longer.  Clementine’s favourite spot in the sanctuary is a velvet sofa. As her hair grows out, she’s looking quite regal and is becoming very at ease with her surroundings. She will perch on her pillow and watch everyone intently. When volunteers do office work in her flat, she runs over by them and promptly gets comfortable in a dog bed next to their feet. She’s makes a great assistant! She is very observant and follows humans’ cues well.  Clementine is getting familiar with foundational skills training. We are working on “sit,” recall word “here,” and “look.” We expect her new family to continue her training sessions to keep her safe in her new life with them. Watch Clementine's short film and see a glimpse of our sanctuary: :https://vimeo.com/1216866664   Ideal Home It is ideal for Clementine to be in a home with people who are around most of the time. Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with her. Once she trusts you, she will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing.  She will especially thrive in a home that can give her companionship day and night. She will be okay if you have to be away for a few hours, but only if another Animal Saint or Saints are in your home. She loves her sister Marigold who is also available for adoption. It would be wonderful to find a home for them to live together.  Clementine is very small — smaller than a standard size Shih Tzu. For her safety, she needs to be in a home with dogs who are a similar size.  Clementine is a great traveler and is comfortable in a travel safety carrier or latched in a car harness. But no daytime/nighttime crates for her. If they are a must for your lifestyle, then she is not for you.  Older children are case by case — only those who have experience living with dogs, understand dog behavior, and have great respect and love for them will be considered.  Love and Commitment  At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. Our goal is to place the dogs we save into lifetime families.  With this in mind, we seek adopters who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical needs.  We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family. They don't believe animals are subordinates or view them as mere possessions; they are partners in life. They are committed to giving them the safety and love they need to flourish.  Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!     September 13, 2026, 6:59 pm
